You walk past the sign. The entrance to the mines should be just around the corner... there! ...It's collapsed. Of course. The rat must have knocked down the supports on the way in. [[Sounds like a job for a sword?->Nope]] [[Certainly an old mine has another entrance]] [[People are smaller than giant rats... is there a small gap?]]If the owlbear is pissed, it sets off a trap-- dynamite, that scares the rat deeper into the cave if the owlbear isn't pissed, player accidentally scares rat off. dynamite is set off as its tail swings into crates or smthg [[Climax/Conflict]] Fighting some creature-- probably a golem or something IF they player still has the scroll, they only need like two hits and then can leave IF they don't, they need to kill the golem and the rat will help them go out through the other entrances IF you give the golem a shovel, it goes back to work [[Reward/Revelation]] The world tilts around you for a moment, blurring. The next, you find yourself in a beautiful courtyard, surrounded by topiaries and fountains. As you steady your feet, leaning on the rat, you hear a shout of joy across the way. A little girl is running towards you, an older gentleman following behind. "Slow down!" he calls, but the girl ignores him, racing towards you and [[the rat.]]Your trusty blade. It's a bit worse for wear, but still sharp and strong. [[back|Intro]]The task you've been given is easy enough: go rescue the noble's daughter's rat from the dungeon. "Dungeon" is a strong word for the old mines to south, but gold is gold, and its your turn to pay for dinner. You walk up, [[sword]] in hand, [[bag]] slung across your shoulders. It's likely best to ignore the "DO NOT ENTER" sign, that doesn't apply to you, [[right?|Entrance/Guardian]] (set: $scroll to true) Does it? You hit your sword against the rocks. It doesn't seem to help. [[Try something different|Entrance/Guardian]]Didn't miners need multiple ways to get out? If they didn't, that would be like, really dangerous, right? The ancient wizard OSHA wrote about that sort of thing in all his scrolls. You walk past the collapsed entrance, heading to the other side of the small hill its built into. There! [[A conviently stable entrance!|Trick/Setback]]You just got this bag, and haven't moved much into it. You do have a teleportation scroll-- one way use to get you and the rat from the mines right into the noble's courtyard. That's thoughtful of them to give to you. [[back|Intro]]You examine the pile of rocks closely. There! Off to the side, you see a small gap in the rubble, a few feet up the pile of rocks. You carefully climb up to it. Should be an easy enough (link:"squeeze.")[ Okay. Maybe it looked bigger from below. No matter. You start to crawl through it. You can see the inside of the mines [[in shades of gray]]. And... there! You tumble onto the the ground, patting yourself to make sure you aren't hurt. You check yourself, your sword, and your bag-- where's your bag? It must have slipped off when you were crawling through. Shoot. Well, you can grab it when you [[get out of here.|Puzzle/RP]]] (set: $scroll to false) Darkvision. Always a nice perk. [[back|People are smaller than giant rats... is there a small gap?]] You look around the mine entrance. Old sconces on the wall for torches, a couple old [[shovels]], and a sleeping owlbear, blocking access to the rest of the mine. [[Wake it]] [[Sneak around it]]The rat races towards the little girl, towering over her. She hugs it, leaning into its fur. "I missed you!" she says, petting it. The older gentleman smiles at them, before walking up to you. "Thank you," he says, passing you a bag. You weigh it in your hands-- that should be enough gold for dinner AND drinks! "Of course," you say, acting like you did it soley out of the goodness of your heart. That was certainly part of the motivation, but the gold did help. "Please, stay for dinner," he says. "I'm sure my daughter would love to hear about how you rescued her friend." Free dinner? Of course. You grab one, leaving your sword on your back. Maybe it will be useful later? [[back|Puzzle/RP]] (set: $shovel to true)"Uh, pardon me," you say, loudly. "Need to squeeze by here..." Its eyes narrow. For a moment, everything is still. Then humphs, curling up a bit tighter. It closes its eyes again. [[A win is a win|Trick/Setback]]Waking up a predator, even one that doesn't really attack humans, seems like a bad idea. You creep past it, back against the wall, inches between you and the creature. As you slink past it, your foot brushes against one of it's paws. It's eyes open, bright and golden as it stares at you. [[Shovel?]] [[Reason with it|Wake it]]There isn't enough manuervering space to grab your sword. You hold out your shovel. "Stay!" You yell. The owlbear growls. [[Reason with it?|Wake it]] [[Run]]You sprint past it. Maybe that's the last thing that you should do according to the nature manuals, but hey, how many times have the authors actually been face to face with an owlbear? [[Faster!|Trick/Setback]] (set: $owlbearFriend to false)
