Keeping up with the Gay Agenda

You came out to your family, first in person to announce your engagement, and then in a very tasteful Facebook post with a picture of you and your fiancée. Your grandmother responded with a heart emoji. [[Everything was going well... ->First contact]]

It was mere moments after that first heart emoji that your phone rang. The number? Unknown (GAYDAR) with a picture of a rainbow. [[Answer the Call.]]

A cheery automated voice "Hello, Welcome to the LGBTQ community! We were recently informed that you've joined our ranks. Are you ready to begin the Work™?" [[How did you know? ->We Know]] [[Umm, what?->Embrace the Unknown]]

"The National Gaydar helps us keep an eye on things. We've been expecting you for awhile. I'll be sending your first assignment via Rainbow. Keep an eye out, and stay Gay." The Call ends. Your phone [[buzzes.->Your First Quest]]

You look back down at your phone to see a new app has added itself to your home screen. A pink button with a rainbow. The app opens to reveal a task list. It seems that today, Sunday, you have the following options for your daily task: [[Get a pixie cut->Pixie Cut]] [[Host an LGBTQ movie night ->Movie Night]] [[Turn someone gay. ->Gay Conversion Done Right]]

Your new haircut looks great! On your way home, you realize fewer men seem to be oggling you. Hell yeah! [[The next day...-> Day 2]]

While watching Brokeback Mountain, the only thing your friends remark on is how sad it is that Heath Ledger is dead. [[The next day.-> Day 2]]

The app provided no clear indication about how this was to be done, so you do some research. The internet seems to think glitter will do the trick. [[Find someone to turn gay. -> Pocket Glitter!]]

Today is now Monday. Your Rainbow app lets you know today's tasks are open to be completed at any time. You have to get to work though. [[Head to work. -> Work]]

You stand on a street corner and throw glitter from your pocket on a stranger. [[Walk away.-> End of the Day 1]] [[Did it work?]]

It's a strange life, but you wouldn't have it any other way. [[The next day...-> Day 2]]

The woman stares at you. "Do you feel more gay?" you ask. "Never felt gayer!" she said. [[All in a day's work. -> End of the Day 1]]

You arrive at work on time. [[Your usual route->H.R.]] to your cubicle is past the H.R. department, but you could go around and [[talk to your co-worker and friend, Mark.-> Mark]] You're sure he'd be excited to see the ring in person.

As you pass by the H.R. department, Jenny steps out to greet you. "Hey darlin', how was your weekend? Oh! That ring!" Jenny holds your hand up and examines your engagement ring. "Who's the lucky fellow?" [[(Tell her the truth.) "Hey, Mark, I've got some news." you say, leaning over his cubicle wall, showing off your ring. "Oh my god! Who proposed, you or Kristen?" "Kristen beat me to it, but at least we both have rings!" "That's so great! But hey, [[come in here a second.->A warning]]"

"Oh. I didn't know that you... Well, isn't that nice! I'll let you get back to work." [[Get to work-> Work Day V2]]

"Oh, that's so nice! Let me know when you set a date! I'm so happy for you!" Jenny lets go of your hand and walks back to her desk. [[Get to work.->Work Day]]

"I wouldn't go telling anyone directly around here. The company culture isn't quite as welcoming here as you might hope. I heard someone got fired for it a few years ago. They'll come up with another reason as cover, but they don't hide their real reasoning very well." [[Oh, thanks for the warning. You avoid the H.R. department today. You get [[straight to work.->Work Day]]

On your way back to your cubicle, you pass [[Jenny from H.R.->H.R.]]

Your work day goes by as usual. [[Head home. -> Home]]

About halfway through your work day, Jenny approaches you. "Hon, could you come with me? The [[boss]] wants to see you."

Your boss drones on for awhile about the importance of unity in company culture. This is the only segment you really hear. "I'm afraid we don't believe that your work ethic and mindset reflect well on our company. We're letting you go. Pack up your things, Jenny will see you out." [[...->End 1- Fired]]

Mark messages you later that day. "Hey, I'm sorry to hear what happened. Best wishes to you and Kristen." You can't bring yourself to reopen the Rainbow app. It's going to be awhile before the wedding. [[Start Over->Start]] [[A Note from the Author]]

I enjoy joking about throwing glitter and wearing flannel as much as the next LGBTQ person, but this game was designed to shed light on some issues still facing the LGBTQ community. Yes, in many parts this is a very heavy-handed style of writing. This is intentional to make a clear and distinct point about the realities of LGBTQ rights in the United States. Many people assume that because gay marriage is legal, LGBTQ people now have equal rights and protections under the law. This is not accurate in many states. As of November 2018, there are still 12 states that do not protect LGBTQ people in the workforce, with many other states adding restrictions on the extent to which LGBTQ are protected. Adoption, hate crime laws, and housing and employment descrimination still remain issues in many states to this day. Until there are federal protections, LGBTQ rights are not universal in this country. The real gay agenda is to simply live safely and freely. Research the laws in your own state, and help people continue living with pride. [[Start Over ->Start]]

You arrive at the restraunt and Kristen waves you over. You smile and join her at the table. "Hey, honey! I thought that tonight we could [[make some wedding plans]] over a nice meal. Sometimes it's nice to eat out." She winks at you.

"I've been thinking, with my family being a little more than uncomfortable with everything, and the hassle of the whole thing... I kind of just want to [[elope]]."
