[after 2s] A brand new paperback fiction to dive into. The spine is ready to crack like your white, dry knuckles. The pages smell of sand dust, printing ink, and old people. The glossy cover is fingerprintless, foldless, dentless. [after 6.5s] You carefully slide the receipt wedged in the center of the book out of the compact, never-before-opened pages to avoid any slips of spoilers. [after 10s] While tracing the title lettering spread across the cover, you take a deep breath in. [after 14s] It's time to [[begin]]. config.header.center: "Skipping the 'Blanks'" -- [after 0.5s] You open the new book to what feels like twenty different pages of [after 2s] titles [after 2.75s] copyrights [after 3.5s] acknowledgements [after 4.25s] and just plain blanks (why?!) [after 6s] flipping through each one so you don't accidentally jump the start. [after 8s] And finally... [[Chapter One]]. config.header.center: "Reeling You In" -- [after 0.5s] Suddenly, a great silver hook emerges from the book like a hand that desparately reaches out of water from drowning. The pages warp and ripple while the hook wraps itself around your neck. [after 5s] You think about resisting, but then you think to yourself... [after 7s] "Who is this?!" [after 8s] "Where am I?!" [after 9s] "Is this worth it?!" [after 10.5s] The hook drags your face into the pages. You're submerged like a child bobbing for apples in murky water. And suddenly, the smell of paper, ink, and your grandmother disappears and makes way for a new smell. Your eyes no longer see letters and page numbers. [after 15s] You start to see [[a brand new world]]. config.header.center: "Disinterest" -- [after 0.5s] It's like you've stepped through a portal to another universe. [after 2s] You start to learn so many new things, visit so many new places, meet so many new people. [after 4s] But after a while... the world is starting to look grey...and beige... and literally every unappealing colour you can think of. [after 7s] The smell is disappearing into nothingness, the way it would after spending too much time in the same place — that's why you can't smell your home-smell. [after 11s] The people here are starting to irritate the shit out of you. They're either so uninteresting or so frustrating that you can't bear to look at them anymore. Just the thought of them makes your blood boil, enough to make cup ramen. [after 16s] Maybe it's time to turn the cover and go [[back to the surface]]. config.header.center: "Defeat" -- [after 0.5s] Hmm... [after 2s] That was a bit disappointing, wasn't it? [after 3s] But it sounded so cool and so amazing when you started! [after 4.5s] Oh well... [after 6s] You toss the paperback into the bottom shelf of your bookshelf of "DNF" books. [after 8s] It's time to go back to the [[bookstore]].config.header.center: " " -- [after 1s] [align center] Look!
