It has been another long year. Each day stark. A lot more could have been done. It's hard to get excited. Across the room a poster has fallen from the wall. The bathroom mirror hasn't been cleaned in months. A loud knock on the [[door]], followed by a stack of papers being thrust underneath it [[one by one]]. An offer has been made. The door is old. Painted over multiple times, the paint now chipping off revealing the oak under all the layers. The hinges are loud. There is a dent behind the door in the wall from where the knob would hit. The clock says it is [[9:30 am]].A leaf blower kicks on [[outside]]. It has not rained this week. The litter box stinks. Breakfast has not been made yet. It is a very foggy day as was the [[day]] before. Last night an apartment building caught fire a few blocks away trapping and killing [[six]] people. The litterbox needs to be emptied, the trash must be taken [[outside]], it is laundry [[day]], the floor needs to be mopped, the bathroom cleaned, the carpet vacuumed. It will be a long day. The air is thick. It will be [[8 pm]] soon. The sun shines but it's light is dusted by ashy smog. The man across the street coughs while reading the paper. It has not rained in several days. The street is glazed by a sheen of runoff from the firehoses. There is sometimes a bluejay that lands on the branch outside of the living room window, but not today. The news anchor names the [[six]] that died in the [[fire]]. The sun gashes through the clouds. It's light reflected sharply off of car windshields. An unrecognized stranger was walking a dog. The dog stopped, looked up, and barked loudly when a news helicopter flew over. A [[squirrel]] had been run over. Still the [[pile]] of envelopes sits on the table.Maria Navarez.

There is still smoke in the air [[outside]]. The litter box stinks. Breakfast hasn't been started yet. The envelopes are stacked on the table. Inside each one is a letter consisting of [[five sentences]] made up of [[eight words]] each. Each letter says the same thing, they are all the same. It made the night glow a permanent sunset and once it was doused, the sun rose again to restore its light. One of the largest fire responses the city has seen in decades. The sirens started at around [[8 pm]] and the last fire truck left in the morning. A vigil was going to be had later in the [[week]]. The news cameras showed the remnants of the building in a toppled [[pile]].Again the light of day fades to nothingness and again very little had been done. It seems a trend, that. A lot of repition. soon another year will pass, and much more could again have been done. Each day bleeds together. It is hard to get excited. Tommoorows alarm is set for [[9:30 am]].A week ago a man came and knocked on the [[door]] to sell insurance. The man did not leave for thirty minutes and talked too loudly. A fight broke out on the street later that night and someone was shot at but was not injured. After leaving, the man went to each other door in the building and, [[one by one]]. knocked and slid a flyer under the door.It should be no challenge to deduce task.

A bloodied mess. A shame. It would likely be scooped up in the coming days. It was going to be feasted on by birds, bugs, and strays. It's carcass was leaking a blood the color of [[fire]]. It was time to make [[breakfast]].Eggs and toast. Simple, but it was all that could be made. The news continues to talk about the [[fire]] and the lack of [[rain]]. It has been well over a [[week]] since the last rain fell. A new mural is being painted down the street, it is too bright, too ugly. Grass has dried out and flowers are wilting. The dry air makes the city stink. It needs to rain. Perhaps there would not have been that [[fire]]. The lake is getting lower. There is a [[pile]]. of garbage on the street, the truck did not come all day and it is [[8 pm]].Envelope after envelope, likely twenty of them. All unmarked, all unsealed. It is [[9:30 am]]. The envelopes cease and theres is now a large white puddle of paper strewn across the floor. It is a [[chore]] to pick them all up. It is an even greater chore to read them all.
