<div class="f-error-test-2"><h1>THREE MILE</h1></div>\
<p style="font-size: .75em;">This story is based on a real trip with my friends to a real haunted location. The names have all been changed to protect our identities. If you ever have a chance to drive along Three Mile, give it a chance. The United States has a lot of great haunted locations but even the simple ones like Three Mile can be fun with the right atmosphere and some friends.</p>

<<linkreplace "It was in the summer of 2016 when my friends and I decided to go on a trip to Three Mile. It was an old road left mostly out of use in the middle of nowhere in Idaho." t8n>>
<<linkreplace "Zach, Kristy, Charlie, Gina, and I decided we were going to cram into Zach's car and make a night of it. We had gone to haunted locations before: Dusty Hollow, Thirteen Graves, the usual. So, it wasn't too out of our comfort zone to give any a try." t8n>>
<<linkreplace "Zach had this all too obvious crush on Kristy, probably exacerbated by how handsy of a couple Charlie and Gina tended to be. You could always feel this desperate need for affection emanating from Zach." t8n>>
<<linkreplace "I guess I could understand it somewhat, I was single at the time too. For me it wasn't as big of a deal, I had just gotten out of a controlling relationship that had left me pretty drained in general. My friends (and our trips especially) were my way of experiencing natural, healthy relationships." t8n>>
<<linkreplace "However controlled I felt while dating was how controlled Zach seemed to feel by just being around Kristy. His whole demeanor would change. His sense of humor would change. And I would be stuck watching her bored eyes roll through each of his sentences." t8n>>
[[I guess I didn't care for her too much, but she was okay. I couldn't figure out why she came on our trips though. She never seemed to have a good time.]]

<<linkreplace "When Zach pulled up in his car, we got to talking about the plan. I lived the closest to him so he'd usually pick me up on our way to the others. It was nice since we were usually the ones making the schedule for the night." t8n>><<linkreplace "It was pretty simple horror legend: drive to the end of Three Mile Road in the middle of the night, turn around when you reach the end of the road, turn your lights off and slowly creep back to the main road." t8n>><<linkreplace "Of course it was full of all the usual warnings. We weren't supposed to leave our car, pick up anybody, turn on the radio, or drive over 20 mph. I guess when you drive back you're supposed to be transported to a different place and those three miles will actually take a full hour." t8n>><<linkreplace "It was getting colder out this time of year. It was nearing the full blanket of snow that doesn't leave until February, so we were excited to try a haunting that let us have the comfort of a heater." t8n>><<linkreplace "After we made our mock plan based on what we knew and what we read on the internet, Zach started asking me questions about how I was doing. It was different than our usual talks, where we'd just joke through everything." t8n>>"So how have you been holding up?" Zach asked. "It was... I dunno man, just really weird to see you lose your cool like that. You're usually so grounded. I know it was weird with what's-her-name but you seemed to be really affected by it...<<timed 6s t8n>> What was her name?"

"It was Jenny." I said it with a spit. Jenny had really ruined my life at the time. She was the kind of controlling person who would slowly worm her way into your brain. <<nobr>>

She would never let anything go.
<<next>>Everything had to be by her rules and only her rules.
<<next>>Everything I did was subject to scrutiny.
<<next>>Everything.
<<next>>So many times I tried
<<next>>to get us to communicate like two normal people,
<<next>>but that was never enough.
<<next>>She had this insatiable urge to make everything about her
<<next>>and her feelings.
<<next>>It wasn't enough to just say you were sorry and move on.
<<next>>You'd have to stop everything and lay on your hands and knees
<<next>>and apologize.
<<next>>I just wanted to have a normal,

<<next>>not get suffocated on my deathbed by

<<next>>I could never bring myself to church

<<next>>just something right for once.
<<next>>But it was always unanswered.
<<next>>There Jenny would be,
<<next>>crying,
<<next>>screaming,
<<next>>on the other side of the door.
<<next>>In my worst moments, I wanted her to just go through with it
<<next>>and really kill herself.
<<next>>It wasn't fair to me or anyone else that she could just keep dictating my entire life to me.
<<next>>I was a good person.
<<next>>I was at least not a bad person.
<<next>>But I could have been a murderer if I felt her tears drying on my body one more time.
<<next>>One more sleepless night spent comforting her when I hadn't done or said anything at all.
<<next>>It wasn't fair.

<<linkreplace "I always found it fun to be the narrator for these kinds of things, to set the mood. It's really the story that makes the place and gives it a character. How many times has this road been driven without the horror context." t8n>>

It was a chance for me to set the mood for my friends, give the right atmosphere. It was a way for me to control the outcome of the night in my own little way. I liked it." t8n>>
[[After my introduction, Zach slowly started idling back to the start of the road. There was a hushed anticipation, as much as we could have one from the quick tonal change. We all seemed to be having a good time with it. We were all letting outselves get swept up in the mood of it.]]

Dialog.wiki("The people on the screen kept pouring their heart out, but it was completely insincere. I didn't feel anything behind their eyes when they said it. Maybe it was the lighting, the inebriation. But I was long suspecting that they might not be really human. Or fully human. Sometimes we were passing through the filters of reality and unreality and through that some //things// would slip through. I couldn't trust them just automatically. I had to keep testing their eyes, say something unexpected and check the reaction. After that it was controlling the reactions and from there it was all okay. Just keep it up and it would all turn out alright. There was a narrative flow to the relationships around me that just required using the right syntax and grammar so that I could properly narrate the outcomes.");

It wasn't fair of you guys to stop talking to me and not even let me try to defend myself. What Amber saw was a complete accident and she completely misinterpreted it. She had a vested interest in telling you guys that I was the worst person ever when really I was trying to help someone that night. Why did we even go to a party at her place when you knew how I felt and how it all fell apart?
It's not even trying to find the truth of the situation, it's just being manipulative towards me.

Not that I know of.
^^EDIT: I found out she did, but it didn't go anywhere beyond getting a prescription which is basically the same as nothing.^^
<p style="font-size: 75%;">When we all went to that house in the middle of nowhere, who's house even was it? Where did we even go that night? I can see the flat white front but I can't remember the street signs. The whole night felt like a mixed up dream. When you found us in the bathroom and assumed the worst. Who was it that threw me out? Why did no one even answer the phone? Why did I have to find out where Tina took Chelsea like some weird kind of stalker?
I had to walk home in the snow. It was [[three miles]] before I even found a main road. By then, the slush had soaked into my shoes and I couldn't feel my feet.</p>
I just wanted to give my side of the story but it keeps getting mixed up. I have to keep practicing my writing. People keep saying I did something bad to Chelsea but I was just trying to nudge her along. We just needed a reason for me to be there for her.
