Natalie flails, unable to grab anything to hold onto. The bowl of hot ramen lies by the doorway. 1.) [[SCREAM FOR HELP]] 2.) [[KICK THE HAND]] 3.) [[THROW RAMEN BOWL]]

(set: $ramen to "true") Natalie flails, knocking over the bowl of ramen. The hot steaming liquid rolls along the floor. The creature's hands recoil from the heat and retreat back into the darkened room. Natalie gets to her feet and [[runs | scene 13]]!

Natalie makes a run for it, but her footsteps tip Ms. Malcolm to her [[position]].

Both women move blindly in the darkness - Ms. Malcolm hunting Natalie. The tablet on the coffee table comes to life - the room glows with ambient light. Ms. Malcolm looks at the tablet first. Natalie takes her chance and leaps at her! They wrestle for control of the bat. Natalie kicks Ms. Malcolm back while yanking the bat away. Ms. Malcolm hits the floor hard, as Natalie stumbles backward against the coffee table. 1.)[[ATTACK]] 2.) [[WAIT]]

Ms. Malcolm chases, thrashing the bat after Natalie. In the confusion Natalie trips and falls over the [[coffee table]].

She rolls, but Ms. Malcolm is on her in and instant. MS. MALCOLM YOU WON'T REPLACE ME! Natalie raises her hand in [[defense]] as Ms. Malcolm brings the bat down.

The first blow shatters Natalie's forearm! MS. MALCOLM You won't replace me! The second blow turns everything blurry. Natalie's ears are ringing. The only clear sound is Ms. Malcolm's garbled [[voice.]]

MS. MALCOLM You won't! You won't...YOU WON'T! The bat lands again and again - punctuating Ms. Malcolm's words. Each blow lands with a duller and [[wetter sound |scene 20]].

The CREATURE stands inches away from her! MS. MALCOLM is speaking to her while scrambling to collect her coat and purse. Ms. Malcolm is in her late 50s. Physically her and Natalie are not unalike - they could be cousins...or even mother and daughter. But Ms. Malcolm wears the clothing of a woman almost twice her age - and the worn, stressed-out expression to match. MS. MALCOLM Are you sure you have all of Zola’s records? NATALIE - Right from the hospital. Ms. Malcolm’s helicopter mom temperament won’t let her look fully convinced. She picks up a [[TABLET COMPUTER]] from the table.

NATALIE Are you okay? MS. MALCOLM Sorry about that. Just wear and tear. You'll understand when you're older. Ms. Malcolm wins a small smile out of Natalie. MS. MALCOLM I should have looked for a caretaker for Zola sooner...Sometimes I wonder if I can keep this up [[too much longer]].

MS. MALCOLM We keep people out of her room unless necessary - contamination, you know. There are cameras in her room so if she needs anything she'll use this. Ms. Malcolm activates the [[tablet screen]]:

Zola gets the hint, frowns, and climbs back into bed. MS. MALCOLM Mommy loves you. Say goodbye. ZOLA [[Bye mommy]].

Ms. Malcolm hands the tablet to Natalie. NATALIE Don’t worry. I've got your number and the pager for the hospital. Natalie's assuredness is easing Ms. Malcolm. Ms. Malcolm realizes she’s still [[gripping the tablet]].

A beat. She releases it and gives Natalie a nervous smile. MS. MALCOLM Well, then...have a good night. Ms. Malcolm stops to take one more worried glance around the house before leaving. Natalie sees Ms. Malcolm off, then shuts the [[front door]].

Ms. Malcolm's screams are quickly muffled by horrible bone cracking and sharp [[gagging sounds]].

Natalie steps back as Ms. Malcolm’s body is tossed back out of the darkness - what’s [[left of it]].
