Infection

Mark, a 40-year-old man, is hiding in a basement. There is a [[mattress]], a [[radio]] and a backpack next to him. He sits on the ground next to some [[canned food]] and bottled water.

A soft mattress. It's too early, Mark doesn't want to sleep now. (link-undo: "Back")

Radio: "Recently, a fungal infection broke out in the city of Will. The government quickly closed the entire city to prevent the spread of fungi to the outside world. There are still survivors living there. The government has sent helicopters to search and rescue survivors these days..." Mark angrily presses on the button and turns off the radio. Mark: "I have never heard the sound of the helicopter these days. No one has saved us." (link-undo: "Back")

He opens the can and draws the third line on the wall with a can lid. Suddenly, A loud knock at the door. [[Open the door]] or [[Ignore the sound]]

A 15-year-old girl is standing outside, "Hi. My name is Amy. I was in Downtown, and I saw a lot of people groaning on the ground. I thought Downtown is too dangerous so I rushed to the suburb, and then I saw your footprints in the grass. Then I find here." Amy: "Can I go inside? I bring some canned food." Mark sees some canned food in her bag and then lets her in. He takes all canned food from her bag and puts into his backpack. Amy gets permission and goes inside. She finds a corner and sits down. It's evening. Mark goes to the mattress and [[sleep]].

The sound speaks loudly outside the door, "Can you open the door please?" The knock becomes heavier. Doesn't want others to notice this place, Mark opens the door. A 15-year-old girl is standing outside, "Hi. My name is Amy. I was in Downtown before, I saw your footprints in the grass. Then I find here. Can I come in?" Mark: "No." Amy: "I have some canned food." Mark sees some canned food in her bag. He considers a while, then lets her in. He takes all canned food from her bag and puts into his backpack. Amy gets permission and goes inside. She finds a corner and sits down. It's evening. Mark goes to the mattress and [[sleep]].

It's morning. They both wake up. Mark takes a can from his backpack. Sitting in the corner of the room, Amy is watching Mark eating. Amy's stomach rumbling with hunger. She moves toward Mark. Amy: "Can I have some canned food?" Mark: "You can have this." Mark throws the [[can]] which he had eaten to Amy. Amy: "Can I open a new one? I brought these cans here last night." Mark: "These cans have been mine since last night. You have to know that you can stay in this safe basement because of my permission. I can give you one, but you need to go to Downtown to bring more food back." Amy considers for a moment and nods. Mark throws a new can to her, then he lays on a mattress and looks at the ceiling in a daze. Amy opens the can and starts eating. Amy: "It's too quiet here, can you chat with me?" Mark [[ignores her]].

Amy looks at the can and there was only a little bit meat left in the can. (link-undo: "Back")

Amy: "I don't have a mom or a dad. Perhaps they are dead. I was at the Willoughby Hights Group Home. I was going to go to a foster family,but everybody died. Do you want to talk about yourself?" Mark snorts, "You are so noisy. I regret to let you stay here last night." Amy finishes her food. She then puts on her hat and gloves. Amy: "I am going to bring more food back, as I promised. From my three days experience in Downtown, infected people are not very dangerous now, you will not be infected unless you touch them. I will come back as soon as possible." [[Stop her]] or [[Let her go]]

Mark: "Wait. I cannot let a girl who is much smaller than I go to Downtown alone. I will go. You can stay here." Amy is surpised by his words. Amy: "Thank you..." Amy then sits on his side. Amy: "Can you tell me your name? I want to know more about you. You are a kind person." Mark: "Mark, my name is Mark. " Amy: "Mark, Do you have a family? I really want to know what it feels like to have a mom and a dad." Mark: "I bet you don't want to have a father like mine. My dad used to drink alcohol and hit me every day. I tried to study well to let he happy. However, I was being beaten, no matter how good I was. I would rather be a child in a foster home, like you. Fortunately, he died because of drinking driving." Amy: "I am really sorry to hear that. " Mark: "It is time to go." Then he carries his backpack and goes out from the basement. Amy: "Be careful. I am waiting for you here." Mark walks to [[the Downtown]].

Amy opens the door. She takes a deep breath and walks out from the basement. Mark: "Just go. Why can you be so noisy?" Then he closes the door of the basement heavily and [[go back]] to his mattress.

Mark lays on the mattress for a day and he feels hungry. He eats a portion of canned food and the whole basement is so quiet. Mark is a little upset, feeling that he shouldn't let a girl who is much smaller than him go to Downtown alone. Mark: "Why hasn't she come back?" Suddenly, there is a strong and rhythmic [[knock]] on the door.

Mark sends the signal flare, then a plane comes. People on the plane don't agree to bring Amy because she has a fever. They also notice that Mark is injured and may be infected. The plane just leaves. Monster also comes because of the signal flare. Finally, they both die. (color: #f7667e)[BAD END: DEATH] [[Restart]]

He looks to Amy's sleeping face. He decides to send it tomorrow when Amy becomes better. Otherwise, the plane may not let Amy get on the plane because she seems to be unhealthy. Mark wakes up while Amy is looking at him. Amy seems to be healed and her face looks healthy. Amy: "Thank you, Mark." Amy opens a can and gives it to Mark. Amy: "I just don’t know what else to say..." Mark looks at Amy and takes the can. Amy is touched and she starts weeping. Amy: "You save my life... You are the first person who cares about me." Mark feels [[embarrassed]] and he doesn't know what to do.

He takes two steps back. Mark: "What are you talking about?" Amy: "I don't know. I feel like some infected people has become monsters... Amy is sweating and gasping. Amy feels nauseating after she thinks of the monster again." Amy:"I need to calm down...I lose my appetite..." Amy sits in the corner and closes her eyes. Mark picks up the cans and water on the ground. He then walks to the door and confirms that the lock is good. He returns to [[his mattress]] and his mind was blank.

Mark opens his eyes and finds that Amy is still sleeping in the corner. Her face looks red. Mark goes toward Amy and pushes her. Amy opens her eyes. Mark: "Hey, what's wrong with you?" Amy: "I don't seem to be very comfortable." Mark touches her head and it is very hot. Mark: "You have a fever." Amy: "...Maybe because I slept without eating yesterday. I am really a fool, I needed to have some food yesterday... There is no medicine here. You don't need to go to Downtown to bring medicines for me. It is too dangerous." Mark: "I won't go. Why should I put myself in a dangerous situation because of you?" Amy: "You are right. We have no relationship. I even don't know your name. Can you tell me your name?" Mark: "Mark, my name is Mark. " Amy: "Mark, Do you have a [[family]]? I really want to know what it feels like to have a mom and a dad."

From the rhythm, Mark knows this is Amy. Amy runs in and closes the door quickly. She is sweaty and shaking. She loosens the plastic bag. A pile of cans and bottled water are scattered on the ground. She slides off from the door and sits down on the ground. Amy: "I saw a monster! When I got canned food in the supermarket, I saw another male survivor was taking food from the shelf. Suddenly, he was bitten by a white-eyed monster who looked like a human. The man fell on the ground and started to groan!" Amy starts crying. Mark is surprised and [[scared]] by what she said.

Mark: "I don't have a mother, and my father is dead." Amy: "Sorry to hear that. How is your father? He must be very nice..." Mark remembers the painful memories of the past. Mark: "I bet you don't want to have a father like mine. My dad used to drink alcohol and hit me every day. I tried to study well to let he happy. However, I was being beaten, no matter how good I was. I would rather be a child in a foster home, like you. Fortunately, he died because of drinking driving." Amy: "I am really sorry to hear that. " Mark: "Can we stop this topic? You can have some food." Mark gives Amy a canned food. Amy shakes her head. Amy: "I don't want to eat. I have no appetite. You can keep all of them. Perhaps I will get better tomorrow. I believe in myself. I am still young and I have a healthy body. " Amy: "You know what, I am happy that you share your story with me and you have the most words today..." Her lashes turned to lead, and she is too weary to hold them up. She suddenly falls asleep. After a while, he moves Amy to his mattress. [[Next day]]

Mark puts his hand on Amy's [[head]] again. Mark shakes her by the shoulder. Mark: "Amy! How is your feeling?" Amy has no reaction. Mark: "Amy? Can you hear me? Can you respond to me?" Amy still has no reaction. Mark stuns and falls into meditation. Go to Downtown to [[get medicine]] or wish she will be better later and [[do nothing]]

A few moments later, he put his coat on Amy's body. Then he carries his backpack and goes out from the basement. Go to [[Downtown]]

Amy dies because of fever. Mark removes her body from the basement and buries her. Mark dreams about Amy every night. He starts seeing phantom of Amy. Finally, he goes mad. (color: #f7667e)[BAD END: MADNESS] [[Restart]]

Mark is in the Downtown. Where can he get the medicine? [[Mart]] or [[Hospital]]

Mark goes into the central mart. He finds a pharmacy in the mart. Along the way, Mark sees a lot of dead bodies, and some of the bodies have no legs or arms. There is a lot of dry blood on the ground, and the air is full of the smell of blood. Although Mark is so scared, he does not stop searching. He quickly browses the medicine on the shelf. Mark: "Medicine for fever... Medicine for fever..." Suddenly, he hears the [[footsteps]].

Mark goes into the hospital. He finds many locked cabinet. No medicine here. Go to [[Mart]]

The smell of blood becomes stronger. His body is shaking and he finally finds the medicine and puts it in the bag immediately. As he turns his body, the face of the white eye monster is very close to him. Mark: "AHHHHH!" The white eye monster roars and Mark sees some dry blood around its mouth. Its sharp and long nails row toward Mark. Although Mark reacts fast and turns his body, his arm is injured by the monster. The blood flows down his arm to the ground. The monster seems to be excited after the blood appears. [[Fight]] with this monster or [[Run]]

Mark doesn't have any weapon. The monster is stronger than him. He is bitten by the monster. The monster is so hungry that it starts eating... (color: #f7667e)[BAD END: DEATH] [[Restart]]

Mark does not want to fight with this monster. He runs toward the entrance and the white eye monster follows him. He hides behind the store shelves and the monster passes by. He is relieved. While he is adjusting his breath and looks around the surrounding, he finds a signal flare on the shelf. He then takes the signal flare and put it in the bag. He looks around, makes sure the monster goes away and runs out from the mart. Back to the [[basement]]

Mark comes back and Amy is still sleeping. Mark takes out the medicine, opens the bottled water and sits next to Amy. He touches her shoulder. Mark: "Amy? Amy?" Amy opens her eyes slowly, but she cannot say anything. Mark: "Here is medicine! Eat it and you will be better. Open the mouth." Amy opens her mouth unconsciously. Mark then put a pill into her mouth and let her drink water unskillfully. A large percentage of water flows out from the mouth and drops on the ground. Amy finally eats the pill and sleeps again. Mark then relaxes and looks at his arm. The wound stops bleeding for a while. Mark tears his clothes and binds up his arm. He then notices the signal flare in his bag. [[Send it]] or [[Keep it]]

Mark goes into the supermarket. Along the way, Mark sees a lot of dead bodies, and some of the bodies have no legs or arms. There is a lot of dry blood on the ground, and the air is full of the smell of blood. Mark: "What are these? The infection seems terrible." He then takes canned food from the shelf. He sees another male survivor is taking food from the shelf. Mark wants to say something to him and ask him some questions about what happened here. The smell of blood becomes stronger. Suddenly, he was bitten by a [[white-eyed monster]] who looked like a human. The man fell on the ground and started to groan!

He starts to eat the can and tries not to look at Amy. Mark: "I never knew this beef stew in the can was so good. This is really good stuff..." Amy: "You are my hero!" Mark is eating. He hears that and turns his [[body]] toward the wall. Mark: "...You are welcome."

After Mark turns around his body, Amy notices the wound on his arm. Amy stops crying and catches Mark's arm. Amy: "What happened?" Mark doesn't want Amy to look at his arm. He hides his arm and tries to divert her attention. Mark: "Nothing. Oh! I found a signal flare in the..." Amy interrupts him and takes off the piece of fabric around his [[arm]]. Amy: "Is it made by the monster?" Mark nods slowly. Amy: "You are infected! Let me think about what I can do..." Mark: "What? I am infected?" Mark gets a shock. Mark: "I don't want to die..." Amy: "Be quiet!" Amy looks serious. She is thinking of what she can do. Amy: "I used to read some books... I remember that I have seen a type of herb in the book. It can heal black blood, but I am not sure if it can heal the infection. But we need to try. It is at the peak of the mountain. It may heal you!" Amy looks at Mark's arm again: "You need to stay here because you are injured. I will go out and bring it back." [[stay in the basement]] or [[go with Amy]]

She looks at the wound carefully. The blood looks black. (link-undo: "Back")

Mark goes back to the basement. Before knocking the door, Mark looks at his arm. The wound stops bleeding for a while. Mark tears his clothes and binds up his arm. He knocks the door rhythmically and Amy opens the door for him. Seeing so many foods in his backpack, Amy is [[happy]].

Amy: "Thank you, Mark." Mark is sweating. Amy: "What happened? You are sweating." Mark: "Outside is not safe now. I saw a lot of dead bodies, and some of the bodies had no legs or arms. There was a lot of dry blood on the ground, and the air was full of the smell of blood. I feel like some infected people has become monsters...They eat human." Amy: "So there are monsters outside? That is terrible!" Amy: "I just don’t know what else to say...You bring so much food back." Amy: "You are very brave. We can stay in this safe basement for a very long time. You save our life." Mark feels embarrassed and he doesn't know what to do. He hears that and turns his [[body]] toward the wall.

Mark considers for a while and nods. Amy then puts on her coat and goes out，"Wait for me. I will be back soon." Mark stays in the basement and waits for more than 10 hours. However, Amy has not come back. Mark is so worried that he goes out of the basement. He follows some small footsteps and goes toward a mountain. Mark: "Amy?" No one responded. He then finds fabrics of Amy's clothes at the cliff. Mark feels so sad and he sits on the ground. Suddenly, he roars and his eyes become white. Mark considers for a while. He thinks it's too dangerous outside. He does not want Amy to be sick again, so he decides to go with Amy. Mark: " My arm is injured, not my legs. Outside is very dangerous now. I will go with you." Amy accepts his idea. She believes she can protect Mark if they meet the monster. They pick up some canned food and water. They leave the basement and go to the [[mountain]].

Mark: "I think someone will come to save us. We are on the highest places." Mark takes out the signal flare from his bag and sends it. The signal flare goes to the sky and it looks very pretty. A half hour later, they are sitting on the glass and then they hear the sound of the propeller. They look up the sky and find a helicopter is landing. They are saved. On the plane, Amy and Mark are looking out from the window. The city becomes far away from them. (color: #f7e166)[GOOD END: SAFE] [[Restart]]

Amy: "I don't want to leave. I am afraid that I will be sent to another foster home." Mark stops sending the signal flare and looks at Amy. Mark: "If you don't want to go, I will stay here with you. We have the herb so we are not afraid of infection." Amy thinks for a while. Amy: "Let's go. Here is not safe. The monster will keep coming. They are still dangerous." Mark: "I will adopt you. We can have a family." Mark looks at Amy and smiles. He sends the signal flare. The signal flare goes to the sky and it looks very pretty. A half hour later, they are sitting on the glass and then they hear the sound of the propeller. They look up the sky and find a helicopter is landing. They are saved. Mark and Amy are walking toward the mountain. Amy has a knife in her hand and looks around. Amy: "The herb has four leaves which are purple." Mark: "Where can we find the herb?" Amy: "It is always at the top of the mountain." Suddenly, they hear some noises. Amy stands in front of Mark, holds her knife and looks at the shrub where the sound comes from. A monster comes up. Amy stabs the monster's belly. It roars and slows down its action. She pulls out the knife but no blood comes out. Amy: "What?" Amy is surprised by this and the monster raises its claw. Mark: "Watch out!" Mark kicks the monster from the back. Ask Amy to [[stab its heart]] or [[throw the knife]] to him.

Mark and Amy are at the top of the mountain. They look at the [[city]]. Mark: "Let's go." Amy starts to walk toward the peak, and Mark follows her. There are some trees on the peak. Each tree has a small and purple herb on the top. Amy: "I see it!" Amy points to the herb and wants to climb the tree. Mark stops her. Mark: "It is too tall. I climb." Mark goes forward and tries to climb the tree, but he fails. He does not have any experience with tree climbing. Amy: "I am good at climbing. I always climbed the tree in the yard when I was bored." Amy starts climbing. She climbs very fast. Amy: "You will be healed!" Amy catches the herb on the top and waves to Mark. Suddenly, the branches break and Amy starts falling from the tree. Amy: "Ahhhhh!" [[Catch her!]]

Mark: "Try to stab its heart. It used to be a human, so the heart maybe its weakness." The monster turns its head and starts attacking Mark. Mark defends with his backpack. Mark tries to control it so that Amy can find the heart position easily. When Mark tries to grasp the monster, it uses its nails to attack Mark. Mark's face starts bleeding. Seeing the blood, the monster becomes excited. It opens its mouth and wants to bite Mark. Mark throws a can to its mouth. The monster bites the can. At this time, Mark kicks it again and the monster falls to the ground. Mark controls the monster's arms. Mark: "Now!" Amy goes forward and stabs at the monster's heart. The monster screeches and then closes its eyes. Mark pulls out the knife and stabs it repeatedly for 4-5 times, making sure that it has died. Mark: "Let's go." Amy: "You save me again." Mark: "We helped each other." Amy: "Your face is bleeding. We need to find the herb quickly." They walk toward the [[top]] of the mountain.

Mark: "Throw the knife to me!" Amy throws the knife to Mark. At the same time, the monster turns its head and starts attacking Mark. Mark failed to catch the knife and the monster uses its nails to attack Mark. Mark falls to the ground, mortally wounded. Mark: "Amy, Run! Don't come back!" Then, he closes his eyes. The city is gray and there are some smoke and fog around it. They do not say anything but just stare at their city where they grew up. (link-undo: "Back")

Mark catches Amy. Amy is safe. Mark:"So dangerous! If I did not come, you would die!!" Mark does not look satisfied with the herb. He is very angry about Amy's dangerous action. Amy looks very happy and neglects him. Amy takes out the bottled water, soaks the herb inside and shakes the water. The water gradually becomes purple. Amy tears her clothes and soaks two pieces of fabric inside the water. Amy: "You can be healed! Put it on your wound!" Although Mark is angry, he obeys Amy's words and puts one piece on his arm and one piece on his face. A few moments later, Amy checks the wound on the arm and the blood is no more black. Amy: "Fortunately!" Mark becomes happy too. He then stops smiling. Mark: "You are! You save my life too. However, you should not do the dangerous thing again!" Amy looks at his eyes. Amy: "I promise I won't!" Amy then looks at the sky, it becomes darker. Amy: "We need to go back to your basement. The night is coming." Mark remembers that they have a signal flare. Mark: "AHHHHH!" Listening to his voice, the white eye monster turns to him. It roars and Mark sees some dry blood around its mouth. Its sharp and long nails row toward Mark. Although Mark reacts fast and turns his body, his arm is injured by the monster. The blood flows down his arm to the ground. The monster seems to be excited after the blood appears.
