ARTIST STATEMENT
The purpose for this piece of interactive fiction is to take the player through a simulated walk through my neighborhood. There is only one option at the moment, which is 'Straight, heading to Kamper Park,' but the goal of the game is to provide the player with three separate routes to 'walk' through different parts of Hattiesburg. I chose to make this my game simply because going on walks brings me a lot of joy, and has helped me process a lot of my own experiences and thoughts. The game utilizes links and passages to walk players through the neighborhood, while also simultaneously giving the players snippets of memories or thoughts and opinons from the narrator. It utilizes a second person point of view, hoping to immerse players in the game as if it was them walking and remembering as the game progresses. The narrative is built upon the player 'noticing' things during their walk, which activates memories associated with their environment.
The game mostly relies on the player clicking links to other passages where a memory is being experienced, which often will branch out into other memories or explanations of people/places/etc. In an attempt to give the illusion of control at some points, since the game very clearly reflects my own experiences in a vacuum, there are points where the player can choose what song to listen to, or if they want to interact with the physical world in the narrative or not. There are not many of these options simply because the main goal of this game is to touch on how our environment impacts us, and how memory works.
The Mary Oliver quote at the beginning is a gentle reminder that the amount of attention we put into the world we live in matters. In a digital age, it is easy to lose sight of what is important, and what things we give our attention to. Because of this, another goal of this game is to invite players to pay attention to their surroundings in their own lives.

You hit the corner of Lurty and Quinn, and turn quinn
(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
You laugh as you remember the time a few years back when you and your two roommates walked through waist-high water after Gordon's Creek flooded. All you wanted was tacos. So, like crazy people, the three of you practically swam for a mile to get to Compadre's Market. Everyone got sick MWMH(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))

Jaycee Park. It's a new addition to Hattiesburg High, or at least you quinn(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
You remember listening to all of the Drake and Kendrick diss tracks with Randy. So silly. Fuck Drake Lurty Avenue
(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
They still don't like Lurty Avenue
(enchant:?page,(bg:(gradient: 204, 0,#e5e619,0,#e61919,0.492,#e5e619,1,#197fe6)))As you turn down Quinn Street, you notice the silver Ford Focus is still there. You wonder if it'll ever move.
Andie's house is on Quinn, just a few hundred yards from where you live.
There's, of course, dogs in several of the backyards barking at you as you pass by.
You pass someone who is grilling in their front yard and listening to Shakira's Hips Don't Lie.
At the end of Quinn, you have to pass over the giant speedbump. You take a right, back down your road - Dixie Avenue.(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
Randy is your roommate. He's never really home because he's always on tour with his band MSPaint. He plays bass. You miss Lurty Avenue(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
This car has been there as long as you can remember. At least as long as you've lived in this neighborhood. You've never seen anyone attempting to fix it. The front bumper is missing. You notice there's a Dollar General bag hanging off of the front (where the bumper should be). That's quinn
(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
Where she used to live.
You wonder if you and Andie will ever be friends quinn(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
When your tires are too low (they usually are), the front end of your 2005 Kia Sedona scrapes the ground while going over the speedbump. Sometimes, if you go too fast over it, you catch a little air and your stomach drops. quinn(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
As you walk down Dixie, you wonder when the last time you saw Robert was. Or Tiffany. Hopefully they're both doing good.
You come up on your neighbor's house and notice the yard was recently cut. Fred always liked to pee in the tall grass.
You turn right toward your house and see Pepper and Thebe in the window. They're waiting for you to come inside.(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
Robert is the long haired black and white cat that randomly ran up to you at your house one day. He is the sweetest little baby. He has short, stubby legs and lets you hold him like a right,
(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
Tiffany is a light grey tabby cat with the saddest eyes you've ever seen. She usually will come up to your house to eat. She seemed pregnant the last time you saw her. Hopefully she's right,
(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
Both of the families on either side of your house moved out two months ago. If the grass is being cut, maybe someone is moving in. You hope they'll be right,(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
Your literal children. Babies. Sweehearts. The reason for breathing.
Pepper is a four year old tuxedo cat who loves to bite you (playfully). He quite literally is your everything.
Thebe is a three year old calico tabby. Maybe the sweetest cat who ever lived. (don't tell Pepper.) Her birthday is on Christmas. Welcome back, right,

I hope you enjoyed taking this little 'walk' through my neighborhood. I hope this inspires you to take one through yours and see what you notice :-)
Play Again:
(there will be new options soon!)

Your dad was the guidance counselor and then eventually the Assistant Dean of Students at PRCC when you were a kid. The girls you stayed with worked in the Dean's office with Hips Don't Lie
(enchant:?page,(text-colour:white)+(bg:#faa2c1))
You used to be //obsessed// with this song when you were like 7 or 8. You remember staying in the dorms with some of the girls at PRCC and hearing this song for the first time. You cried the whole way home because you didn't want to leave, and made your mom play this song on repeat. You still remember all of the quinn
