Sheffield Startup Anglesoft Acquired by American Tech Giants
Last Friday, Sheffield-based startup Anglesoft announced its recent acquisition by American tech giant Three Gear Industries, continuing their expansion into the European technology market.
Anglesoft's CEO and lead developer, Jonnathan Angleson, spoke with The Tech Stack earlier this week about the acquisition.
"We're pushing the limits of technology. Our customers have come to expect the absolute best from us in the portable device market. Our partnership with Three Gears will allow us to continue doing just that."
Some believe that the acquisition was pursued to offset costs as Anglesoft attempts to breach into the hardware market, after previous success in developing software for other companies creating handheld devices. Others have claimed that the startup has sold out to American investors.
"We aren't abandoning our roots," Angleson responded. "We are British first. We would never turn our backs on the British tech industry."
The acquisition comes during the development of Anglesoft's new PDA, announced earlier this year. Anglesoft claims the device uses cutting-edge "electromagnetic field technology," trademarked, which is able to preempt when a user is about to touch the device, allowing "more intimate levels of haptic feedback." Among standard PDA features, Angleson claims the device has full colour display, always-on GPS features, unlimited international phone calls, and enhanced battery technology. When asked to clarify these features further, he refused to comment, saying "They are better seen in-person to be believed."
Anglesoft has stated the PDA will launch on September 22nd in the United States, with a European release following shortly after. Copies of the device are expected to be distributed to review outlets in June.
