<h2><b>Prologue</b></h2>
Your cotton blanket stretches over the length of your cold body as you begin to wake up from your alarm. A gutteral groan escapes your lips as you throw your arm towards the side table. Your hand lingers around, finding the alarm clock. You slam your hand down, but the beeping feels like it only grows louder. The alarm feels like it pierces through your eardrums, giving you an instant headache.
The blankets twist and turn as you get angrier and angrier, feeling your blood begin to boil. Eventually, you can't even try and sleep anymore. Out of anger, you take the alarm clock and chuck it at your wall, breaking it into pieces. As you lay there, breathing heavy, you realize what you've just done. You broke your alarm clock and you're awake now. Good job. You throw the blankets off of your body and you clench your jaw as you stare at your now shattered alarm clock on your floor. Why did you set an alarm? What could be so important?
Oh...
Once you realize that today's the high school reunion, it all clicks in your head. You set an extremely annoying alarm because you've been waiting for this. Not happily, though. You're actually extremely anxious about this event. You haven't seen anyone from your friend group in almost a decade. After the car accident you had, you fell into a coma and forgot almost everything, including your friends.
However, even though you're anxious, you're forcing yourself to go. You need to get it done. This is the last piece of the puzzle. The thing that'll finally give you some closure. The car crash has been haunting you. You don't know who you were or remember what you were like. You feel like a piece of you was taken that day. All the forgotten memories... They're terrifying. It's like they're there, but locked behind a wall that you can't seem to unlock.
You sit up on your bed and groan, knowing today's gonna be especially hard. You remember very small chunks about your friend group. Their names, how they look, but that's it. You take your chilled hands and run them down your face, taking a deep breath as your body gets used to waking up.
As your hands run down your eyes, you lift your head up to see the mirror in front of you. You look... a wreck. Tired, a mess, and you probably smell pretty gross, too. Who do you see staring back at you in that mirror?

Just in case you need extra knowledge on everything because you're starting the game, forgot what happened, or just didn't keep track, here's the basic stuff you need to know.
You were good friends with everyone within the friend group (Jason, Skyler, Lucas, Stanley, Leia, Denver) until you and your parents got into a car accident. Your parents got banged up, but they were okay. You, however, were not. You took most of the impact, and you ended up in a coma for about a month. It doesn't seem like long, but it changed everything.
After the coma, you lost a good portion of your memory and pretty much forgot everything and everyone. Over time, you started to remember things like your mom and dad, who you were, and even the names of some of your older friends. However, you didn't remember much else.

Also, completely random but two other things. Whenever you check the characters pages, you see them in three outfits. The first outfit is the outfit they wear to the reunion, the middle outfit is what their normal outfits are, and the last one is just so you get a view of the model. Also, all the movies/shows I named in Denver's character bio are completely fictional. Movies/shows might share the same name, but in this game, they're not actual shows or movies.Skyler Miller

Stanley was born as an accident. His mom was poor and was selling herself out for money and accidentally got pregnant. She had him and raised him like a good mother, but she didn't have the money for much else.
Stan and his mom stayed at a rundown house up until Stanley was ten. Stanley's mom died of an overdose and he was left alone by himself. He eventually was found by the police and they took him in, asking him questions. They figured out that his situation wasn't good at all, so they tried looking for anyone who is apart of his family who can take him.
Eventually, they found Stanley's grandparents. It turns out that his mom ran away at the age of sixteen and survived on her own. His grandparents didn't even know Stanley existed or that their daughter was dead.
For the next few years, Stan was raised by his grandparents. They fed him well and they actually got him into a school. However, even if they did find it kind of strange that he was a zombie, they accepted him anyway. As Stan was attending high school, he fell in love with a girl named Leia. However, she never really looked his way.
He was desperate for her attention, so eventually he ended up going to the same party she was going to. He got a little tipsy and got brave enough to ask for her number. She declined and told him she doesn't do romance, but she also led him upstairs. They hooked up then and a few more times after that, and she figured Stan was cool. She asked if he wanted to meet some of her friends, and Stan gladly agreed.Jason Robert Phillips

Jason grew up in the suburbs with a loving family in a loving home. On the outside, there was really nothing wrong in Jason's life. What could be so bad about it? His parents loved him, he had friends, he had money. So what was so bad? Well, he was a werewolf.
One day in sixth grade, a random man started following Jason around. He wouldn't talk or approach him, but he'd follow him. While he was walking to school, walking home, walking to the store, etc. Eventually the man walks up to Jason. He tells Jason that he has a cute cat back at his house and he was looking to sell it. Jason knew better, but his little brother, Nathan, really wanted a kitten. So, Jason followed the man so he could get a present for his brother.
The man led Jason to his house and locked the door. To his surprise, the man really did have a kitten. A small gray one. Jason turned around to thank the man, but Jason gets stabbed in the shoulder instead. Jason kicks the man in the groin and the man falls over in pain. Jason takes the knife out of his shoulder and extracts his werewolf claws. He takes his claws and strikes the man in the throat, killing him.
Jason took the kitten and ended up calling the police. It turns out that the man was a serial killer and was hunting creatures for a thrill. Jason never was able to get that out of his head, even after him and his family moved to Ohio, a safe place for creatures.
After Jason moved, he chose to put all of his time into sports. It got his head off of everything and it made him feel good. Eventually, he comes across you and you both hit it off very well. You invite him to your friend group and Jason accepts.Skyler Amy Miller

Skyler was born and raised in Hell. She only had a dad, the Devil. He loved her with all of her heart, but he wanted her to be something she was not. He wanted her to be mean and violent, but Skyler was the complete opposite. So, Damien tried to give her the life she'd want. Even if that meant spending time with some mortals.
One day, Damien realized Skyler was the appropriate age for kindergarten. He dropped her off at school and took off for the day, wanting to get away from the mortals who despised him. Skyler stood awkwardly in the corner, not knowing what to do. She's never had friends before. Eventually, a kid helped her. That kid was you.
You told her to sit next to you and she obeyed. You both spent the day learning and playing and she grew to highly appreciate you.
You both stayed friends up until middle school. She got called out of her class by Damien, taking her back to hell for a while. After a while, you realized that Skyler just wasn't coming back. This upset you but you formed your own friend group after that.
When Skyler turned seventeen, she flew up from hell and came back to the city. She went to the same high school. She found you, but you already made other friends. This upset her, but you noticed her and dragged her over to where you were and she became friends with everyone else.
After you all graduated, you ended up getting into a car crash. Skyler was probably the most devistated out of everybody.Denver Connors

Denver was raised up to believe she was a mortal. Her parents were drug addicts for the first five years of her life. They wouldn't take care of her, but her big brother, Daniel, did. He'd change her diapers, feed her, and eventually raise her.
While their parents were out one day, Daniel decided that it was their time to run. Denver was five and he was eighteen. He was old enough to get a job and a place to stay. He was old enough to raise Denver. He packs bags full of clothes, food, and toys and he takes Denver and leaves.
For the first couple of weeks, Denver and Daniel stay under bridges, in abandoned houses, and sometimes manage to hide out in stores. Eventually, Daniel works up enough money to buy an apartment for the both of them.
A little after, Daniel gets into trouble and can't protect himself. A man shoots a bullet at him, but huge white wings suddenly grow out of Denver's back as she rushes the shooter. She knocks him down with the speed she flew over and hit him. Although Daniel is proud of Denver and wants her to show off her wings more, Denver hides that side of her, thinking it's dangerous.
Years pass and Denver ends up at a high school in Ohio. Since she's both nice and beautiful, Denver ends up being one of the most popular students at the school. She also starred in a couple plays. However, Denver never knew where she fit. She didn't like all of the popular kids because they were usually rich with no struggles. She was neither.
Eventually, while auditioning for the play Romeo and Juliet, she met a person auditioning for an extra. You. You talked to her and both of you really clicked. Unfortunately, you didn't get the part, but you kept in contact with Denver and she ended up joining your friend group.
Years later, after Denver graduates high school, she goes on to become an extremely famous actor. She's starred in movies like Devil Without A Voice, Lonely Without, and Clown Project and shows like Zero Vision, Insanity, and Disconnected. Her net worth sits at $22 million and she's won an Oscar. However, she's never revealed to the public that she was an angel to protect her image.Lucas James Whiteford
<img src="https://i.imgur.com/HNgT3z3.png" />
Lucas was born into a rich vampire family. He was an only child which means everything was pushed onto him at an early age. Sure, he got what he wanted, but he had to constantly be making his parents proud.
Due to this, Lucas never formed any friends. He wanted friends, but he knew they'd get in the way of his success. However, him not forming friends helped him in the long run. He got straight A's, was always congratulated, and he also got whatever he wanted. But even with all of that, he was still lonely. Still sad.
While doing his homework in the cafeteria during middle school one day, you come up to him. You ask what he was doing, and he answers you. You think it's boring so you offer to skip school with him. He says no but you insist. Eventually, skipping does sound kind of interesting. Both you and Lucas skip school to go to an arcade.
Lucas has the most fun he's ever had, and you awoke another side of him. He figured out what friends and fun actually were that day. He got in trouble, but he didn't care. Lucas kept hanging out with you and you both started to develop more friends.Denver Connors

Leia knew she was a sandman from a very young age. She grew up in a house with five siblings, so she'd always sneak into their rooms and control their dreams for fun. The house was chaotic, but her parents managed to keep it under control. Leia worked at a family owned restaurant. She did this up until the age of fourteen.
One man came in and asked for just a taco. Leia was the only one working at the time and a taco is extremely easy to make, so she followed orders. As she went back to prepare the man's taco, he snuck into the back and wrapped his arm around her throat, telling her not to scream. She obeyed and he ended up robbing her of her phone and wallet and finished it off by sexually assaulting her.
Leia was eventually found by her parents and they made her stop working there for the time being. Leia then went down a path of not caring about anything any more. She shaved her head, started dressing differently, and started to become very violent. Her parents noticed this and placed her in therapy.
As she was leaving one of her sessions, she bumped into you. You were going in for one of your sessions and you realized that you both went to the same school. Leia tried to just be mean and push you away, but you wouldn't budge. You both then very slowly became friends because you were one of the only people that accepted her.You slowly stand up from your bed, placing your feet on the ground and lifting your tired body with all of your strength. You take a breath, feeling the carpet under your feet as you manage to stumble over to your closet. Your fingers slip onto the handle of the closet doors and you open your closet. So many clothes, so many options... What should you wear? It should probably be something fancy, but you have the freedom to make any choice. After all, you are twenty eight. You're grown.

[[MetalSilver: School for Mortals and Creatures]]
[[Bearwick, Ohio]]
[[Creatures]]MetalSilver is one of the only schools in Ohio to contain both creature and mortal students. Most states within the US try to kill creatures, so most creatures are located in Ohio.
MetalSilver holds students from K-12. The school teaches children that they're accepted, no matter who they are. If they're a vampire or if they're a werewolf. If they're mortal or immortal. It doesn't matter who you are, MetalSilver holds a place for you.Bearwick, Ohio holds one of the largest creature populations in the entire US. Most creatures have moved to Ohio because Ohio is one of the only states that aren't trying to target creatures. Creatures have rights there. Everywhere else, creatures are looked at as evil beings since they have advanced abilities. Werewolves: Average looking people that are usually able to change into a werewolf at any given moment if trained well enough. However, there is no stopping the transformation when the full moon shows up. They lose control and can't come back until that moon's gone.
Demons: People that have sinned terribly enough to drop down into Hell once they die. Most demons are terrible people, unless they were born in Hell. If they were born in Hell, they're formed by whoever raises them.
Sandmen: Creatures that are able to sneak into your dreams and control them. They also have sand dust that can fly through their finger tips, being able to control a person altogether. However, it's easy to avoid it.
Monsters: Monsters are pretty much a ghost story. Nobody's ever actually seen one, but they're told to be the most powerful of all creatures. They turn into huge shadows, gaining incredible strength. It's supposed to be terrifying, but again, they aren't real.
Vampires: Vampires are your average looking people, but they're usually disguised as rich families. They're smart, have extreme abilities, and a craving for mortal blood. As vampires grow older, their lust for blood gets worse and they can't control it as easily as they used to.
Angels: People that have high morality and always happen to do the right thing. They're always full of love and care, so nobody blames you if you chose to make friends with an angel.
Zombies: Creatures that can't die. They just regenerate back. However, zombies can take off and rearrange their body parts. They also have a small craving for human flesh, but we don't mention that. You stare at your dimmed screen as you watch and continue to let the phone ring, not really wanting to talk right now. Your mother's sweet and amazing, but you're already anxious as hell and she'd probably make it worse. You take a few deep breaths as the phone eventually stops ringing.
You take the phone and hold the cold phone case in the tight grip of your hand as you walk over towards the door, leaving your house for the night.
[[Go out]]You sigh slowly as you press the accept button on your phone, answering your mother. You open your mouth to greet her, but before you can say anything, she gasps as you can practically feel her smiling through the phone. She's been waiting for this day for months, even though you've been dreading it.
"$name! Today's the big day! Oh my god, I'm so happy you're doing this. What are you wearing?" Your mother asks excitedly. You lightly chuckle, feeling a ball of nervousness fill your chest. Everyone seems so happy about this. Everyone except for you. Why can't you find joy? After all, isn't it a good thing that you'll be seeing your old friends again? Even if you don't remember them?
"Uh- Mom, slow down," you manage to tell her, trying to calm yourself down in the process. The call over the phone goes silent for a few seconds and you can tell that your mom feels bad. She knows you're anxious about this whole thing, so she decides to take it slower. "Oh, yeah. Of course, sweetheart. I'm sorry, I'm just happy about this. All your friends are gonna be there. They'll be so happy to see you!" your mom exclaims, still very excited. As you hear those words come through the phone, you can't help but feel a bit upset. They might be happy to see you, but you don't remember them. It'll be awkward.

"I'm just wearing jeans and a shirt, mom." "Sounds like you, kid. You've loved casual clothes since you were younger," Your mom mutters, laughing awkwardly through the phone. "Not a fan of the fancy clothes?" "No, not really. They can be too tight, or uncomfortable," you tell her, enjoying the feeling of the average clothes. "Well, you manage to look good in anything, $name. You're comfortable, right?"

"I think so..." you tell your mom with a smile across your face. "Good. You hear your mom sigh heavily as she refuses to answer him. "Anyway, I have to get off the phone now. Your father needs me to help him with dinner. Like the man can't cook," she complains, rightfully annoyed. You nod and chuckle, preparing to finally go to this event.
"Okay, mom. I love you." "I love you too, sweetie. Have a good time at the reunion," she finishes, hanging up the phone. You swallow the gathered saliva in your mouth as you hold the phone with a sweaty grip, not completely ready for this reunion.
You're eventually able to tell yourself "Fuck it" as you make your feet walk over towards the door, closing it and leaving your house for the night.
[[Go out]]As you're sitting in the back of a taxi, you start to feel the butterflies that sit in your stomach as your breathing quickens. You can't do this. There's no way. None of those people will like you anymore. You're different. They barely even know you. Hell, you barely even know you. Who says they'd even want to hang out with you anymore? It's been years and you still remember little to nothing about all of them.
Before you can overthink too much, the car comes to a sudden stop. The driver looks back at you, a serious expression on his face. "Twenty dollars," he states as he holds his hand out, waiting for your money. You nod, completely forgetting that you forgot to pay the man. You quickly take twenty dollars out of your wallet. As you reach out to lay the cash in his hand, you notice that your hands are shaking. His eyes glance down, also noticing, but asking about you isn't his job. You hand him the money now covered in sweat, but before you can get out of the car, the driver clears his throat as he begins to ask you a question.
"You okay, kid?" "Never better. Have a good one," you lie as you exit the car, slamming the door behind you on accident. You hear the driver scoff through the open window as he begins to drive away, disappearing down the dark road. As you hear a bunch of chatter and conversations blurred together, your eyes begin to stare at the tall building in front of you.
The moonlight shines down on the gray building. Blue lights flash occasionally out of the windows as you see people leaning against the wall of the building, either smoking or drinking and talking shit with their friends. A banner's attached to the front of the building, the words saying: "Welcome back, Class of '14!"
You take a long, deep breath as you begin walking nervously towards the building. While your footsteps trail onto the pavement below you, you start to feel everyone's gaze set onto you. You try to ignore the unsettling feeling, but you can't. You can hear their chatter and you can feel their stares. Goosebumps begin lining your arms as you try and tune out their words, but you're unable to. They're too loud.
"Is that $name Reeds?" "Didn't $heshethey get into that crazy car accident? It was all over the news. I feel bad..." "Shame that $heshethey went into a coma. Saddest shit I've heard from this school." They continue to talk as they all watch you walk up to the building.
Once you step in, you realize that the reunion party doesn't look half bad. Sure, it the building smells like alcohol and cigarettes, but everyone's either talking, dancing, or just hanging around and having a good time. Maybe this won't be terrible.
However, you immediately change your mind as soon as your eyes land on your old friend group. The lights from the ceiling flash over their faces as you realize that you're able to recognize their appearances. When your parents were re-training your memory, they showed a lot of pictures of you and your friends together. You have memories of some, but not others. You know certain things, but forgot most. For example, you know that Skyler's your oldest friend. You have some memories of her, but most of them are gone. You also know that you're the one who kind of put the whole group together, even though you're the only mortal within that group. Everyone else is a creature, but you're okay with that. You don't see them differently for it.
You can't help but stare at them all laughing and talking with each other, catching up on lost time. You try and make out everyone from what you've gathered from pictures and broken memories.
There's a tall man with a blue button up on and a pair of black jeans. You assume that's Jason, since you have distant memories of him being the tallest one. The woman beside him, who seems quieter, wears a black dress and a long brown trench coat on. You know that's Skyler. You have the most memories of her, even if they're faint. The two across from them look way different than everyone else at this party. They're not dressed fancy at all. The one man wears a button down and a pair of biker jeans while the woman wears a crop-top with jean shorts. You can only believe that they're Stanley and Leia since they're the ones from the pictures that looked the most extended from the group. Last but not least, you see a woman with sunglasses on wrapping her arm around a man that looks way too fancy to be there. Given that you have two last options, you just assume that they're Lucas and Denver.
Before you can move, say, or do anything, you notice that Jason's looking over at you. He opens his mouth and says something to the group, but you can't fully catch what he says because the music's too loud. After he says something completely unintelligible to you, the rest of the group turns their heads and looks over at you.
[[Go over to them]]
[[Don't move]]You stand there awkwardly as they stare at you. Sweat starts to trickle down your forehead as the lights beam onto you, making your body temperature rise. The sweat droplets fall onto the floor as the anxiety sets in. You manage to stand there for a good minute or two until you see Stanley begin to walk over towards you with a wide, bright smile on his face. Based on his appearance, you didn't expect him to be the one that seems so happy.
When he makes it over to you, you instantly feel strong arms embrace you as he pulls you into a hug. You struggle to breathe as he squeezes you. The only thing you're able to smell is his oddly strong cologne. "Holy shit, $name! We didn't even think you'd come. We haven't seen you in years. Literally," Stan continues to have a tight hold on you until he lets go. You try not to make it noticeable, but you quietly catch your breath from the tight hug. "Yeah, I- I just thought it was the right time to meet you guys again," you mutter, placing your hand over your chest as you continue breathing in, trying to rid the scent of cologne from your lungs.
"Well, come on. We've all been talking about you," Stan tells you with a grin as he takes your arm, dragging you towards the rest of the group. You don't resist, but you're not exactly happy about it. As soon as you both finally make it over, you notice the group gets silent quick. All you can hear is the loud music that's managing to vibrate the walls until Denver chooses to speak up, breaking the silence.
"Hey, $name, do you, uh... remember any of us?" "Way to start a coversation, Denv," Lucas tells her, scoffing. She shrugs, glancing around at the group through her sunglasses. "What? It was bound to come up sooner or later. Everyone here knows this. So, do you remember us?"

[[Tell them the truth]]
[[Lie to them]]"I mean..." you mumble, looking around at all of them. It's gonna sound terrible to them, but it's the truth and they all kinda need to hear it. You shouldn't start off with lies. "Not really. I remember bits and pieces. I have a very faint image of who you all are, but I don't remember a lot," you explain, feeling quite guilty about it. As you search the group for their expressions, you notice how pale Skyler got after you gave out the information.
"But I remember more about you than any of the others. Sorry..." you apologize as you tell Skyler what you remember, trying to bring someone a small amount of comfort. Everyone whips their heads towards Skyler, the attention focusing on her.
"What do you remember?" She asks, genuinely curious as the rest listen in, waiting for your answer. "I mean, I can't list everything, but I remember stuff about you being the Devil's daughte-" before you can finish your sentence, everyone in the group shushes you as Leia places her hand over your mouth, forcing you to be quiet. Your eyebrows furrow as you stand there, confused.
"Dude, nobody knows that here. If they knew, imagine the headlines..." Jason whispers, filling you in. You nod as Leia removes her hand from over your mouth. "Sorry," you apologize again, still staring at all of them. It's like your memories are protected behind a glass wall, and you're able to see them, but you can't access them. It's like you can remember so much about them, but you're not allowed to.
"That car crash really fucked you up, huh?" Leia asks in a soft voice, gently setting her palm on your back, comforting you. You're able to give a small smile as you nod. "Yep. Out of all the things I forgot, I remember that clearly..."
The group grows silent and you can tell by their expressions that they feel bad for you. You catch Lucas staring at you with worry in his eyes, but he doesn't say anything. He just stays silent as Stanley chooses to speak up once again.
"Anyway, look at us, right? We've all grown up," Stanley chimes in, a wide smile across his face. Everyone in the group nods, agreeing with him. "Ten whole years older," Lucas states, pressing the cold glass in his hand against his lips, swallowing the mysterious scarlet liquid.

"Is it because I'm trans?" You ask, causing everyone to freeze up, not expecting the sudden question. Their gaze shifts around the room, avoiding eye contact as Stanley and Jason begin coughing, causing the silence to grow more awkward.
"No. Actually, last time we saw you, you were- Yeah, it's because you're trans. You look great though," she admits, staring at the ground as the party lights flash over the lenses of her sunglasses. You nod, not really taking it too badly. "Thanks. You all look different, too, compared to the pictures I saw," I inform them, still glancing at them all.

Before you can respond back, you notice Stanley pulling his phone out of his pocket. "Yeah, me. C'mon, let me brag on Instagram," he jokes as he leans into Denver, snuggling extremely close to her arm. A small laugh escapes her lips as she shoves the taller man off of her.
"Please, no. I'm so sick of the camera flashes and the stalking," she explains as she sighs, hoping you all understand and respect her boundaries.
"We won't call attention to you, Den. To answer $name's question, Jason's a football coach at MetalSilver, I'm a writer, Stanley's in some corny rock band, Leia runs her family's restaurant, Denver's a world famous actress, and Skyler's queen underworld," Lucas finishes, carefully throwing shade at everyone in the group.
"No, I'm not. I'm a bartender," Skyler corrects Lucas as she folds her arms over her chest. Silence sits over the group for a moment until Jason bursts out laughing. The rest of the group follow after him, and even you let out a small chuckle.
"Out of anything you could've been, you ended up being a bartender?" Jason asks as he holds his stomach, still laughing uncontrollably. Skyler just ignores his comment and rolls her eyes.
"Okay, football coach. You get paid ten dollars an hour to throw footballs to seven year olds." "Actually, they're fourteen," Jason responds, not taking the insult to heart.
//[[Flicker]]//"Uh- Of course I remember you guys," your voice cracks as you lie to them, trying to make them feel better. However, none of them fall for it. You can just tell. Lucas shakes his head in disapproval as he takes a sip of the oddly red drink he's holding in his hand as Jason laughs, his tone filled with joy.

"That's a whole bunch of bullshit," Jason calls you out through laughs, but you watch as Skyler punches Jason's arm surprisingly hard. "Ow, what the fuck?" Jason continues massaging his arm and he nods, sighing. "Fine. Jeez. All that devilish strength..." Jason jokes, but Skyler just rolls her eyes at his comment.

[[Tell them the truth]]
[[Lie to them]]Out of nowhere, the lights begin to flicker. Your eyebrows furrow in curiosity as you look up, not quite understanding what's going on. Maybe the building's just old? Or maybe someone forgot to change the batteries on the lights? Either way, goosebumps trail your arms as a wave of paranoia hits you.
"Hey, $name, you okay?" You hear Jason ask, and you get snapped out of your thoughts. Your gaze shifts from the lights back to the group.
"Yeah... Yeah, I'm alright," you reassure everyone, but they don't seem to believe you. Instead, they all seem worried. "Is it the lights? Don't worry about it. This building's older than dirt. Nothing's gonna happen," Skyler states, placing her hand on your shoulder to comfort you. However, instead of the calming feeling that you expected, you're filled with even more paranoia. Before you're able to say anything, the power fully goes out. The lights shut off, the music stops blasting, and the room goes quiet. You can't see a thing, but people start complaining soon after they understand what just happened.
"Good job, Sky. You jinxed it," Leia complains, a hint of anger in her voice. Skyler scoffs and her hand falls off of your shoulder, returning to her side.
"I didn't jinx anything. The building's old. It was bound to happen," Skyler defends herself, but a part of you believes that the power shut off due to another reason. There's a small voice in the back of your head telling you that this isn't right. That something's going on.
[[Check it out]]
[[Stay with the group]]"This doesn't feel right... I'm gonna go see if I can turn the power back on," you inform the group, hoping that nothing actually happened. Maybe it really is just the building.
<<set $choicebreaker to true>>
"Wait, what? No, you can't do that," Lucas tells you while you try to make out where he is in the dark. "Why not? Do you want us to stay in the dark the entire time?" You ask him as anxiety begins rushing through your veins. Why are you acting like this? Why are you starting to feel sick? It's not like you're scared of the dark.
"Because you don't know your way around the building. Why would you go?" He asks, bringing up a good question. Instead of answering, you just let out a small sigh, slowly beginning to rub the temples of your head. You know he's right, but your brain's practically ordering you to go and check it out. It's eating you alive.
"You're right, but... I'm going anyway. It feels like something's wrong..." you warn them as your hands begin feeling clammy. Before Lucas can fight you on it, Jason buds in, hoping he can help.
"If $name's not gonna back down, then I'll go with $himherthem. I know my way around. I used to come and hang out here on the weekends. I know where the breaker is." "That's... actually a good idea. You don't have many of those, Jason," Lucas comments, and Jason gives a small chuckle. "Thanks."
[[Let Jason go with you]]
[[Go on your own]]"Was there a storm warning today? The power going out would make sense if there was," you ask, knowing you don't really keep yourself updated with the weather. After all, you barely leave your apartment. Why would you need to know the weather?
<<set $choicestay to true>>
"Uh..." Denver starts as she slides her phone out of her pocket, quickly checking her weather app. The bright light shines onto her face while the darkness surrounds everyone else. "No, nothing. Maybe a little rain, but that's it. Skyler might be right. The building is pretty old," she finishes, sliding her phone back into her pocket.
"So... What do we do? Just wait until the lights come back on?" Leia asks, but Stanley doesn't like that option. "Hell no. We have flashlights on our phones for a reason," he chimes in, turning on his flashlight. He points it towards Jason, Skyler, and Denver. You can see them all physically squint at the light, throwing their hands up in front of their faces.
"Point that shit the other way, man," Jason orders Stanley, and he obeys, aiming the light at the floor instead. "Sorry. I forgot you guys were there."
As soon as the crowd of people around you all see that Stanley's phone flashlight is on, they follow along and do the same. Only a few seconds pass until everyone's lights are on, and they're all pointed towards the DJ. While everyone shouts at him, asking what happened, he just throws his hands up, looking innocent.
"Hey, I don't know what happened! I just work here!" He yells, but someone from the crowd yells "Call someone or something, man!" "You call someone! I didn't do shit!" The DJ shouts to the random man, and they start to get into an argument.
This lasts a few minutes and everyone pays attention to their argument, forgetting all about the situation with the power. After all, it's probably the most entertainment they've had all night. After those few minutes pass, the front doors open and a taller man with a suit walks in.
"Settle down. Please," the man says with his deep voice, announcing his presence.
"Who's that?" You ask, knowing none of these people seem familiar to you. Nobody answers, but you're able to see Denver squinting her eyes through her sunglasses, paying careful attention to the man. After a few seconds, she stops squinting and grins.
"Holy shit. It's principal Hayes." "Well... He's had better days," Jason responds as your gaze settles on the tall man. His skin tone's extremely pale, he has a gray beard, and he's definitely balding.
"Sorry it took me so long to get here, I had to handle something. Don't worry though, it's probably just the stupid circuit breaker. I'll fix it and let you all get back to your activities," Hayes finishes, clearing his throat. He manages to push through the crowd, eventually reaching one of the side doors. Once he leaves, the crowd starts up conversations with their friends, talking about what just happened.
"See? It's just the circuit breaker. We're fine. I didn't jinx anything," Skyler says, continuing to defend herself, but Leia just shakes her head.
"I wasn't being serious when I said that, she-devil. I was just fucking with you. Of course you didn't jinx anything. Jinxing doesn't exist." "Oh..." Skyler mutters. Her face turns a bright shade of red as she looks down in embarrassment.
"I actually disagree with you. Jinxing is a hundred percent real, Lei. You just haven't experienced enough of it," Stanley chimes in, shoving his hands in his pockets as he stares down at Leia, a warm smile on his face. Leia glances up at him, and for the first time, you see her actually smiling. "Don't be a fucking idiot." "But why not? You like it."
"Are they dating, or...?" You mutter towards Lucas, and he shakes his head. "No, they just hook up occasionally and refuse to believe that they have a spark. Just don't bring it up around them. Leia gets pissy about it and Stan gets sad," Lucas whispers, warning you. You give him a small nod, remembering that fact.
Almost out of thin air, the lights flicker back on. The music continues playing from where it left off and you're all able to see everyone around you once again.
"Finally! I felt like I was blind for a moment there," Jason jokes, rubbing his eyes. However, before any of you respond, a bloodcurdling scream travels from one of the bathroom to the main room. Your heart practically drops to your stomach and the feeling of paranoia shapes into dread.
"What was that?" Denver asks, finally whipping off her sunglasses. Before she can get an answer, Lucas takes off, running towards the bathrooms to see what happened.
[[Follow him]]You nod along to what Lucas said, agreeing that it's a good idea to have someone who knows the layout of the place watching your back.
<<set $withjason to true>>
"Yeah... It's a good idea. You should come with me," you say, making up your mind. "Good. You won't get lost," Lucas states, seeming a bit worried.
"Awesome. So, the breaker's in the basement. All you really need to do is follow me, okay?" Jason tells you, happy to actually be helpful. You crack a small smile as joy fills your chest. You don't know much about these people, but they still happen to be your friends. It's nice having that. "Got it. Lead the way," you answer, turning on the flashlight on your phone. His brown hair falls onto his forehead as he nods, pushing himself into the crowd while you follow after.
"Okay. So, there are doors this way. They'll lead us into the hallway that leads us to the basement. The breaker's just in the basement. All we have to do is flip the switches and get out of there. You got all that, $name?" He asks you as you both continue squeezing through the crowd of people blocking the doors. You nod as you light the way in front of you with your phone.
Eventually, both of you are able to reach the doors. Since Jason's in front of you, he presses his palms against the doors and pushes them open with ease. The hinges squeak as the doors open, but nobody in the room seems to pay much attention to it. Jason walks into the hallway and grabs you by the arm, bringing you out of the crowd and into the empty hallway.
"Alright. Half way there. Are you okay? You look... a little pale," Jason asks as he pushes the doors closed behind him. You manage to take a breath and answer his question by nodding.
You shine the flashlight down the hallway and you're able to see cobwebs in the corners, dirt lining the floor, and dust flying by the flashlight as it lingers in the air. It's enough to creep you out, but you're not scared. Instead, you feel a weird sense of bravery. A bravery you haven't really experienced before.
Jason starts to walk down the hallway, leading you to the end of it. Both of your footsteps echo through the empty hallway as you walk through. With each step you take, your breathing quickens. You're not completely sure why you feel that way, but you hate it. You're twenty eight, you should be able to walk in the dark without fear. However, to your luck, Jason doesn't seem scared at all. Maybe you're just being emotional...
You two eventually make it to the end of the hallway, staring down the stairs of the basement. The darkness sits still and quiet as you stare into it. There's some part of you that doesn't want to go down, but there's another part of you that's telling you that you should.
"Come on. It's creepy down here, but every basement's creepy. Nothing will hurt you," he reassures you as he begins jogging down the stairs. The wooden steps creak under your weight as you follow him down, descending into the darkness.
Once you and Jason make your way down to the basement, you instantly notice the smell. There's a lingering scent of mildew, rotting wood, and sewer. You see Jason gag at the miserable smell and you give him a small chuckle.
"If you can't take the smell, you can go back upstairs," you tease, noticing that he seems like that type of guy. He smiles and shakes his head, stepping down from the steps onto the basement floor. "No. If I'm being honest, I'm sick of how loud everything sounds up there," he admits as he makes his way to the breaker while you stand on the stairs.
You watch as Jason eventually reaches the breaker, swinging the small metal door open. He stares at all of the switches and glances back at you with a confused expression.
"All of the switches are off..." He informs you, not quite sure on how it happened. "Are they usually not all off?" You ask, and he shakes his head. "I don't know, it's just weird," he mutters as he quickly flips all of the switches back on. After he flips the last switch, the basement light flickers back on, shining down on both of you. A wave of relief flows over you as you turn off your phone flashlight. However, right before you can begin walking back up the stairs, you hear a bloodcurdling scream come from above. Your heart skips a beat as you look over at Jason.
"What the fuck was that?" He asks in a serious tone. Instead of answering, your first instinct is to rush up the stairs, needing to know what happened.
[[Run upstairs|upstairsJ]]A sigh escapes your lips as you shake your head, insisting that you go on your own.
<<set $onyourown to true>>
"No, I can go on my own. Just tell me where to go," you tell them as the rest of the group shares glances in the dark. You're unable to read what they're thinking since you can't see them.
"I really don't think it's good for you to go on your own," Jason speaks up, but you've already made up your mind. Silence lingers over all of you until he gives in. "Alright, fine. There are doors somewhere to the left of us. Go through the doors and walk down the hallway. There will be stairs leading down to the basement. Just walk down and you should find the breaker," Jason finishes.
You keep his instructions in mind as you take your phone out, turning on your flashlight. Once you do, you begin to scan the building, trying to find the doors he was talking about. On the left, there's a set of two yellow doors.
"Yep, those. Be careful," Jason says as he bites the inside of his lip, staring at the doors. You nod and flash him a smile. "I will. Thank you."
Your flashlight guides you to the doors as you push past the crowd of irritated people in front of them. You're able to hear them mumbling about the power and arguing in boredom. There's also a faint stench of alcohol lingering over them.
Eventually, you're able to reach the doors, pushing them open. The hinges squeak as the doors move, but nobody in the room seems to pay much attention to you. You swiftly shuffle yourself into the hallway, shutting the doors behind you.
Your footsteps echo through the empty hallway as you begin cautiously walking through, able to hear the many conversations in the main room. With each step you take, your breathing quickens. You're not completely sure why you feel that way, but you hate it. You're twenty eight, you should be able to walk in the dark without fear.
The darkness sits still and quiet as you stare into the basement. There's some part of you that doesn't want to go down, but there's another part of you that's telling you that you should.
The wooden steps creak under your weight as you descend into the darkness, making sure to keep your flashlight up to your chest. There's a lingering scent of mildew, rotting wood, and sewer. Instead of focusing on the smell, you choose to keep your mind on what's more important. The breaker.
Eventually, your feet reach the basement floor. The floor's covered in a thin layer of water and you're able to track it back to a faulty leaking pipe above you. However, as you glance around the rest of the basement, you're able to spot the breaker in front of you.
The water below you begins to tremble as you step towards the breaker, almost splashing up onto your clothing. You eventually reach the circuit breaker and pull the door open, staring at all of the switches. For some reason, all of the switches are off. You stare at this in confusion, but try not to think about it.
"The building's old, right? This is... normal," you mutter to yourself as you quickly flip all of the switches back on. After you flip the last switch, the basement light flickers back on, shining down on you. A wave of relief flows over you as you turn off your phone flashlight. However, right before you can begin walking back up the stairs, you hear a bloodcurdling scream come from upstairs. Your heart skips a beat, hoping to god that something terrible didn't happen to any of your friends.
[[Run upstairs]]Your footsteps click against the floor as you bolt after Lucas, wanting to know what happened. Did someone get scared of something? Was someone hurt? Were you right to be paranoid?
The music continues playing as the rest of the group follows quick behind you two. You're able to see Lucas stop right in front of the women's bathroom, peeking inside. However, once he gets a glimpse of what's inside, he places his hand over his mouth and takes a step back.
"What? What is it?" You ask him, terrified. You eventually make it by his side as people slowly begin pouring in around you to see what happened. As you go to look at what's in the women's bathroom, it's like everything's happening in slow motion. You were right to be paranoid. You were right to be afraid. You were right to not leave your group.
A blonde woman lies dead in the bathroom. She's lying on her back in a puddle of blood as it stains and seeps into her pink dress. Her eyes are wide open, but you can tell there's no life in them. You're instantly sick to your stomach. There's a knife to the side of her, but you can tell she wasn't the one holding it.
"Oh my god..." is all you're able to mumble, but you can't take your eyes off of her. Who could've done this? Who is she?
"Call 911! Fucking call 911!" Denver yells behind you while your hands begin to tremble. Everyone's just staring at the woman, refusing to go up to her and refusing to leave.
//End of "Prologue"//The stairs creak under you as you rush up the stairs, stumbling in the process. You begin to wonder what could've happened while you were downstairs. Did someone get into a fight? Did someone get scared of something? Was someone hurt? Were you right to be paranoid?
You practically fly down the hallway, pulling the heavy doors open in front of you. Something's clearly happened. There's not a crowd in front of the doors anymore. Instead, they're all grouped up around the bathrooms.
The music continues playing as you jog over to the crowd of people, trying to spot one of your friends. Eventually, you're able to see the group standing right in front of the women's bathroom, peeking inside. They all look sick to their stomach. They're pale, but they continue looking at the scene inside.
"What? What is it?" You ask them as you approach the bathroom, terrified. You eventually make it by Skyler's side as more people slowly begin pouring in around you to see what happened. As you go to look at what's in the women's bathroom, it's like everything's happening in slow motion. You were right to be paranoid. You were right to be afraid. You should've never left the group.
