Gradiator is a tool to help pixel artists create 256 colour palettes for use in 8 bit graphics.
It supports regular linear gradients, as well as three-point gradient areas using connected nodes.
The colour grid contains Anchor nodes and Tween cells. Anchors are outlined and usually connected by edge lines.
Tween cells can be selected to view or copy colours, but their colour value can't be modified directly.
Instead, changing the colour of an Anchor effects all Tweens in all the gradients connected around that Anchor, allowing you to edit multiple gradient ranges simultaneously.
Anchors can be dragged around with left mouse, allowing you to adjust how many Tweens are dedicated to each colour range.
Shift + left click a Tween to convert it into a new Anchor. Shift-left click on an emtpy cell to create an new Anchor at the current slider values.
To create gradients, left click an Anchor to select it, then Shift + left click another Anchor to connect them. Shift + left clicking a third Anchor will complete a three point gradient area.
Right clicking an anchor node deletes the node and all connected gradients.
Right click a tween area between nodes to delete that gradient area only.
Ctrl-clicking an Anchor will copy the currently active colour to that Anchor node.
The top panel swatches show the complete RGB colour space that can be represented with 3 digit hex codes. Clicking the top panel toggles remapping to your current palette, and also sets the active colour to where you click. This can help find and repair unrepresented colours in your palette.
Gradiator can save as several formats but only loads it's own native format. Drag and drop .gr8 files into the colour grid to import a file.
