The smell of petrichor fills the evening air. Mud squelches beneath your boots as you trudge through the woods, following the faint metallic scent of fresh blood.
[[Breathe in the scent]]
It fills your lungs, but empties your stomach, causing you to salivate.
How long has it been since you've last feasted? A week? A month? Perhaps longer.
Regardless, a meal is within reach, and all you have to do is find it.
[[Quicken your pace]]
//It's close. So close!//
Drool oozes from the side of your lips.
The smell of copper becomes dominant, masking the earth that surrounds you.
When you finally find the source of the scent—that oh, so, delicious smell of human blood—you lay your eyes on a man. His limp body rests against an old oak tree. His ragged clothes, ripped and torn to reveal his bare chest, soaked in blood and gore.
<img src="https://www.witpopgames.com/uploads/1/2/7/9/12798521/img-6154_orig.png" width="300"/>
What do you do?
[[Feast on him]]
[[Carefully inspect him]]Your hunger compels you.
Without much thought, you lunge at the meal served before you and sink your fangs into his neck. Sweet, delicious blood gushes out from his arteries, alleviating you from your fast.
It's delicious—so, very, delicious.
[[More. Drink more!]]His chest rises and falls with shallow breaths, informing you that he's still alive.
Taking a step closer, you finally notice that although he's covered in blood, there's not a single wound visible on the sleeping man before you.
If the blood is not his, then whose?
[[Step closer]]
[[Step away]]A twig snaps underneath your boot. You freeze.
...
The unconscious man does not stir, so you approach further. His short black hair is ruffled and tangled with leaves. Mud is caked onto the side of his chiseled face. Tanned, muscular arms are peppered with fine black hairs.
He appears young, no older than twenty-five. But then again, to a vampire like yourself, every human appears young.
[[Inspect him for injuries]]You take a step back and trip over a hidden tree root, landing on your backside and hitting the muddy ground with a thud.
The sudden noise jolts the man awake and before you have a chance to sit up a pair of strong, heavy hands pin you to the ground.
[[Ouch!]]"Aurrrrgh!" You cry out in pain as his grip threatens to crush your bones. Have humans always been this strong?
You kick and thrash, but having not eaten in so long you can barely muster the strength.
[[Keep trying]]
[[Give in]]//I will not die here!//
You've lived for over a hundred years. If you had wanted to die you would have done so already.
Using your legs, you manage to kick the man in the stomach. He groans in pain and loosens his grip—an opening!
You wrench your arm free and punch him in the jaw. Bone meets bone and you feel the pain run down your arm, but at least he has fallen off you.
You sit up and prepare to keep fighting for survival.
[[Bang!| Leo shoots Rohit]]
Why keep fighting?
You've been alive for so long. And alone for most of it.
[[Close your eyes]]You close your eyes and welcome the darkness. It's heavy, enveloping you like a blanket.
...
No, wait.
The grip on your arms loosen as the sudden weight on your chest presses you deeper into the dirt.
[[Open your eyes]]You open your eyes to find the bloody man laying limp on top of you. His pained groans letting you know he is still barely conscious.
The blood on his clothes may not be his, but the man still appears injured somehow.
He continues to fight the pain, but it overwhelms him and soon he falls unconscious. His breath tickles against your ear as he collapses. The smell of earth and blood swarms around you, as you stare at the pulsating artery running along his unprotected neck.
[[Feast on him now!!]]
[[Roll him off you]]This may be your last chance to feed for a while.
There's no use wondering what happened to cause this stranger to wander into the woods at night while injured and covered in blood. Blood that is not even his.
You need to quickly feed before he wakes up and attacks you again.
Widening your jaw, you sink your fangs into his [[neck]].
Usually, moving a body is no trouble for you, even one of this man's size. But it's been so long since you've feasted that even such a simple task seems almost impossible now.
You inhale a breath—only managing a shallow one with the weight of the man still crushing you—and give one final shove, managing to push him aside. His head knocks against a tree root as he rolls over.
You can breathe comfortably again.
You take another breath—longer, deeper, the smell of mud, blood and leaves circulate around your lungs. But there's something else... something in the air that shouldn't be there.
Not bothering to sit up, you turn your head to face the man to your right.
[["Are you really human?"|Prologue End Leo 02]] you wonder out loud.[[Bang!]]Searing, scorching pains spread throughout your body, the epicenter located right behind your heart.
While your body begins to heal, another gunshot is heard right before the pain multiplies.
(link:"Again.")[Again. And again... and [[again]]. ]
Your body struggles to keep up with the onslaught of bullets. If you hadn't just feasted, you'd surely be dead by now.
But your meal wasn't enough—barely even an appetizer—before being attacked from behind.
[[Drink more blood]]
[[Turn and fight your attackers]]
[[Run away]]//More! You need more blood!//
Widening your mouth for another bite, you clamp down on the deceased man.
[[Drink! | Bad End 01]]//I don't want to die.//
You've lived for over a hundred years; if you had wanted to die, you would have done so already.
Gritting your teeth, you turn to face your attacker.
[[Charge forward | Bad End 01]]//Run! It's the only thing you're good at.//
Pushing yourself away from the dead man, you make your attempt at escape.
[[Turn into a bat]]But it's no use.
The pain in your chest intensifies as a stake is rammed through your heart. Fire spreads throughout your limbs, slowly engulfing your arms, your legs, your face, until even your eyes are set ablaze.
The last thing you ever see is a pair of golden eyes staring back at you.
[[Bad End 01|Credits]]
Something is wrong.
Your body doesn't behave how you tell it to. It should have taken less than a second to transform into a bat, yet your limbs refuse to change. Your extremities burn from your failed attempt.
Instead of flying high and disappearing into the night sky, your mismatched feet tumble and take you to the ground.
[[Thump]]//Get up! I need to get up!!//
You push against the ground, but your right arm has shrunk and become webbed—a disaster of a wing. You roll onto the ground, mud and rain-soaked leaves stick to your face.
The taste of blood fills your mouth before overflowing and spilling out. It is sweet.
//Was human blood meant to be this sweet?//
[[Get up!! | Bad End 01]]You reach for his [[clothes]].
He grabs you.
You jolt from the sudden tight grip around your arm, the knuckles on his calloused hands turning white.
[[Pull back]]You try to wriggle free, but the struggle just makes his hold firmer.
He peers at you with glossy brown eyes, barely managing to keep them open.
"H-Help..." he says, before losing consciousness again. His limp fingers unfurl from your arm.
[[Feast on him now!]]
[[Help him...|Prologue End Rohit]]This may be your last chance to feed for a while.
There's no use wondering why this stranger was wandering through the woods, covered in blood, and is now asking for your help. They could be a runaway fugitive, after all.
If that is the case, all the more reason to quickly feed before disappearing into the night.
You lean in, widening your jaw before sinking your fangs into his neck.
"So you're one too," a deep voice states from [[behind you]].//'Help,'// he said...
No one has ever asked for your help before. Is that something someone like you can even do? Help?
He is just a stranger. You don't even know his name.
It would be so easy to just help yourself right now. Help yourself to a long awaited meal. To feed after having starved for so long.

Those eyes, gleaming in the light, manage to lock on to both you and the unconscious man beside you. Unwavering, steady, just like his grip around his gun.
"Well, $beauty, why don't you and I have a little chat?"
(set: $Rohitshot to false)
[[...|The man with the golden eyes]]Fire crackles.
You used to be so afraid of the flames, you've seen what it can do to the ones you (link: "love")[//loved//].
But now you sit beside the campfire that you made. The man with the bloodied clothes lays unconscious beside you. His dark skin acts like a canvas for the splatter of light coming from the fire. Highlights of orange reflect off his chiseled face, black hair turns to copper and gold.
You survey his clothes—a once light-coloured shirt, now dirtied with red and brown. Torn black trousers and peasant shoes, the soles worn down from years of usage.
[[The man stirs.]]While groaning in pain, the man gradually opens his eyes and surveys his surroundings.
When he notices you beside him, he jumps to his feet but falls back down to his knees, hunching over while holding his stomach.
[[Ask if he's okay.]]
[[Tell him not to move so much.]]"Are you okay?!" Concern raises in your voice. "I inspected your body earlier for injuries but didn't find anything. Where does it hurt?"
His chocolate coloured eyes, now a golden orange against the campfire, glare up at you in surprise.
"You..." His voice is deep and coarse, like he had been screaming for hours beforehand or was recovering from a cold. "You inspected my body?"
His sharp facial features shift to become soft and vulnerable, as if you had just violated the poor man with your words. Even after showing so much restraint to not feast on him!
[[Yes.|Yes you inspected him]]"You should take it easy," you say, poking at the fire logs with a stick.
The man locks eyes with you, then hastily checks his surroundings before focusing his attention back onto you. He bares his teeth like a wild animal in a cage, and growls.
[[Tell him to sit]]
[[Try to calm him down]]You sigh aloud, placing your poking stick down beside you after adjusting a log one last time.
Calmly gesturing with your hand, you indicate for the man to take a seat on the patch of dirt across from you.
"Sit," you say firmly. "Or don't, you can stay crouching like that all night for all I care."
The man glances across the fire to the patch of dirt. With cautious hesitation, he complies with your demand.
[["So..."|Rohit asks who you are]]"Woah!" You drop the stick and raise both hands. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you."
With slow movements—careful not to spook the man any further—you gesture with your hand towards the patch of dirt across from you.
"Have a seat," you say.
He glances at the ground you point to, cautiously surveying the spot, before turning back to you.
Slowly, he moves to sit, his eyes never leaving yours.
[["So..."|Rohit asks who you are]]"So," you begin with. "What happened?"
Silence fills the air. The chirping of insects in the far distance sings throughout the woods.
"Who are you?" The man asks, dodging your question.
[[Tell him your name]](set: $name to (prompt: "What is your name?", "Lesley"))
"$name," you answer. "And you are?"
He doesn't reply straight away, instead, he softly repeats your name over and over again—like some sort of mantra or curse. His voice is so soft that a normal human may not have heard him. Good thing you're not human.
"Rohit," he finally says. "You may call me Rohit."
"Is that your real name?" you ask.
He is confused by your question, narrowing his eyes at you.
"Why would you ask that?"
"There is a difference between saying, //You may call me// something, and //I am called// something else."
He considers your words carefully.
"Call me Rohit," he repeats more sternly.
[["Rohit it is."]]
"Yes, is that a problem?"
His thin cracked lips part for him to speak, but he's left speechless and decides to check his body for himself. Patting over the ripped shirt, he checks all his belongings are still in possession before sighing a breath of relief.
You watch him with steady eyes. //What is he afraid of?//
The man remains on his knees, unsure of what to do now.
With a gesture of your hand, you point to a patch of dirt across from you on the other side of the campfire.
"Would you like a seat?" you ask.
He is hesitant, but eventually accepts and moves to sit down.
[["So..."|Rohit asks who you are]]"So, will you tell me what happened?" you ask again.
Rohit covers his stomach with his hand, clutching onto the ripped fabric of his shirt.
"I'm not going to hurt you." You try to reassure him, ignoring the instances when you considered feasting on him.
He locks eyes with you, his expression softening a little. "I'm sure if you had wanted to, you would have drained me of all my blood by now."
[[A shiver runs down your spine.]]"Now, why would you think that?" you ask incredulously.
Rohit lifts a finger to his nose, you can't help but notice the fine black hairs on the back of his hand. His thin lips curl into a smirk, like a child withholding a secret.
"Let's just say I have a good sense of smell." He inhales deeply. "And you, $name, smell like bad news."
[["Says the man covered in blood."]]
[["Are you sure you're not sniffing yourself?"]]Rohit narrows his eyes at you, glaring with irritation. But you don't waver. If he's going to go around insulting strangers—especially the ones that bothered to help him—he's going to get a taste of his own medicine.
"Well?" You put more pressure on him, and he hardens under it.
"What I mean to say," he continues. "Is that your kind are easy to identify because you smell of blood and death."
[["Of blood?"]]
[["Of death?"]]Rohit narrows his eyes, but maintains his smile.
"Haha," he laughs dryly. "Very funny."
(set:$sniffing_self to True)
He adjusts his sitting position, crossing his legs and leaning forward on his elbows. Although he appears to be getting comfortable, you can still feel the tension in the air around him. The way the vein along his bare neck pulsates lets you know he is prepared to make a run for it if he deems necessary.
"I mean to say, I know you're a vampire because you smell of blood and death."
[["Of blood?"]]
[["Of death?"]]"Of blood? Do I really smell that good to you?"
He recoils, visibly disturbed by your reaction. Suddenly on high alert again, his eyes momentarily dart left and right, looking for possible escape routes.
You sigh.
"That was a joke," you say. But in all honesty, were you joking?
[["You still haven't told me what happened."|Rohit explains]]"Of death? And you're familiar with the scent because...?"
He stiffens, pressing his lips into a hard line. Steady brown eyes remain focused on you, until he pulls your attention to the blood on his shirt. Blood that is not his.
"Ah..." you sigh.
Rohit covers the red stains with his hands, but they've spread so wide on his clothes that even his large palms are not enough to hide them.
"This is not..." he begins to explain but loses momentum. His words coming to a complete halt.
You wait. What is a mere couple of extra seconds for someone who has lived over a hundred years? Life is long, and you are in no rush to reach the end.
In due time—and perhaps from the awkwardness left by your silence—Rohit continues with his [[explanation|Rohit explains]]."I was attacked," he says. He pauses and waits for your reaction.
You provide none.
Not knowing if what he says is truth or deception, you wait for him to elaborate, paying close attention to every word, every breath, every movement that he makes. Because the last thing you want to do is appear too trusting—gullible.
"This blood, it belonged to the person that attacked me," Rohit says, pulling on his shirt to straighten the fabric. One of the gashes rips as he does so and becomes larger, exposing more of his hairy torso.
"Why did they attack you?" [[you ask.]]
Rohit raises an eyebrow at you, showing signs of disbelief.
"If you haven't already figured it out—" he points to his nose again. "—I'm not exactly human."
(if:$sniffing_self is True)["Now, now," you say with a smirk. "Just because you reek of death, that doesn't make you a monster."
Rohit scoffs, his eyes looking you up and down. The faintest of smiles appears on his lips.
"I never said //I// was a monster, just that I'm not human."]
(else:)[You had figured as much, but before making any assumptions you want to hear the words come directly out of Rohit's mouth.]
[["What are you, then?"]] you ask.
"A werewolf."
For a split second, you notice a change in Rohit. His eyes shimmer silver in the moonlight and his hairs begin to stand on end. Thin lips widen and snarl, exposing his sharp, glossy teeth.
And then, it all stops.
You can hear his heart thumping and the blood in his body gushing through his veins like a river overflowing after a storm. He clutches tightly to his chest and collapses back onto the ground, groaning in pain.
"What's wrong?!" You jump to your feet, taking only a single step towards him before your own survival instincts kick in.
//This could be a trick.//
[[Observe him.]]//Thump//. His forehead hits the dirt.
Cautiously, you take another step. "Rohit?"
Pain-filled groans are muffled by the ground before he rolls onto his back. A flash of (link:"red")[delicious, red blood] appears on his lips, where his teeth have bitten hard enough to pierce the skin.
You lick your own parched lips. Salivating.
"Damn it!" Rohit shouts aloud, momentarily distracting you from your hunger.
"What just happened?" you ask, not moving from your spot across from the fire.
He remains on the ground, huffing and puffing. "I've been [[poisoned]]."
"Poisoned?" you repeat.
Rohit slowly rolls back onto his stomach, pushing up against his elbows until he can sit upright. Beads of sweat form on his temple, showing the amount of strain his body is dealing with.
"Yes," he manages to say between pained groans. "I don't exactly know when, but I haven't been able to transform during this lunar phase."
Now that he mentions it, you realise tonight is the night of the full moon. Werewolves gain the ability to transform during the three nights the moon is at its fullest. Yet you just witnessed Rohit attempt to transform and fail.
"Every time I try my body feels like it's being engulfed in flames," he explains.
You watch as he wraps him arms around himself, like a sick child wanting to be comforted by a parent. You've been alive for over a hundred years, and you've never heard of any poison like this before.
"[[Will you die?]]" you ask bluntly, wondering if there's any point in helping a man that's already on his deathbed. Fire crackles.
You used to be so afraid of the flames, you've seen what it can do to the ones you (link:"love")[//loved//].
And now you sit beside the campfire that the man with the golden eyes made. The light from the flames highlighting his sharp features—slim nose and a sharp chin, his brown hair reflecting gold like his eyes. Those predatory eyes that haven't left you for even a second since you've met.
As he keeps watch of you, your attention wonders to the man with the bloody shirt. (if: $Rohitshot is true)[The stains on his clothes have spread after being shot.] He now lays unconscious, bound by rope at his ankles and wrists—thanks to the man with the golden eyes. (else-if: $Rohitshot is false)[His muffled groans have ceased but his face still winces with pain from time to time.]
"So," he begins. "What's a $beauty $gender such as yourself doing out in the woods so late at night?"
You're cautious of anyone that addresses you as $beauty.
[[The night is still young.]]
[[And what about you, handsome?]]
"The night is still young," you say with an air of dismissal. "Is it a crime to enjoy an evening walk?"
Crossing his arms over his chest, the man with the golden eyes straightens his posture. He tries to conceal it, but you notice the way his fingers linger close to the twin daggers he has strapped to his body.
He shows you a smile, one meant to hide his true intentions. But you've seen that face before. Far too often.
"As far as I know, there's no crime against taking a walk at night—" He shrugs his shoulders. "—at least not where I come from."
[["And where might that be?"]]You lean forward, smiling. If this stranger is going to play a game of flattery, you may as well join in the fun.
"Oh, my." His thin lips mirror yours and curl into a smirk. "Well, aren't we just a pair of gorgeous people enjoying an evening stroll."
"Why, yes. It would appear so," you say, keeping your eyes on the way his hand hovers over his shotgun. "Only it seems one of us came out for a hunt rather than a stroll."
By the twinkle in his eyes, you assume he must be enjoying this little banter.
He nonchalantly shrugs his shoulders.
"Where I come from, it's not uncommon to leave the home with some form of... protection," he says.
[["And where might that be?"]]He lifts up his index finger and shakes it left to right.
"Uh, uh, uh, not so fast. I answered your question, it's only fair you answer mine—why are you wandering through the woods alone at night?"
[[Tell the truth.]]
[[Lie to him.]]
You glance down at the man with the bloody shirt. (if:$Rohitshot is true)[His wound has now healed and the bleeding has stopped.] Judging by his breathing and the rate of his pulse, you can tell that he has remained unconscious this whole time.
"I was following him," you say, not going into further detail.
The man sitting across from you shifts in his seat "Oh? So you're also a hunter?"
//A hunter.//
That wouldn't be entirely correct, but neither would it be incorrect. Afterall, any person could hunt another if given the right motivation.
"You said //also//," you point out. Your eyes once again focusing on the arsenal of weapons covering his body.
He smiles. "You're wary of me."
"Wouldn't you be wary around a strange man walking around the woods who just happens to be carrying a gun and whatever other hidden weapons? I'd much rather run into a bear, if I'm to be honest."
Bears are predictable. They follow their own animal instincts. Humans on the other hand can lie and deceive, making them untrustworthy.
"I don't even know your name," you add.
Instead of being offended, like you expected, the man with the golden eyes bursts into a fit of [[laughter|Leo introduction]].
"I'm running away," you say. Not a complete lie, but not entirely the truth either.
Your answer seems to have piqued your interrogator's interest as his eyes light up. He leans forward, resting both elbows on his knees.
"Oh? What are you running away from?" he asks.
With a smug grin, you lift up an index finger and mimic his earlier gesture, even repeating his earlier words.
"Uh, uh, uh." Admittedly, you're having fun. "It's your turn now to answer a question."
Golden eyes widen before the man bursts into a fit of laughter.
"Oh! I like you," he says.
"Too bad I can't say the same," you reply.
Placing a hand on his chest to calm himself, the stranger composes himself before speaking again.
"Very well. What would you like to ask?"
[["Who are you?"|Leo introduction]]"Please, call me Leo," the man with the golden eyes says. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise," you respond. (if: $Rohitshot is true)["And I guess I should thank you for saving me earlier."
"Oh! Believe me, it was my pleasure."
There's something about his words that sends a cold shiver down your spine.]
The two of you turn your attention to the bound man lying on the ground. Still asleep.
"His name is Rohit," Leo tells you. "He's a werewolf."
You had figured the man that attacked you wasn't human, not with the strength he exhibited earlier.
"Now—" Leo grabs your attention again. "Will you tell me your [[name]]?"
(set: $name to (prompt: "What is your name?", "Lesley"))
"You may call me $name."
"$name? My, what a wonderful name." Every word that comes out of Leo's mouth sounds rehearsed, making it hard to believe there's any sincerity in what he says.
"I bet you say that to every $beauty $gender you meet in the dead of the night," you tease.
He chuckles. "Depends where I'm meeting them at night." Leo then playfully winks at you. Although you were initially cautious, it's been decades since you last conversed with someone in such a way. This makes you want to play along with his mind games.
"The woods are not your preferred rendezvous spot? And here I thought we had something in common."
Once again, Leo bursts into laughter. It's loud and uninhibited, his voice echoing throughout the trees.
"If that is your preference, I'm willing to make the effort of coming out more often."
You smile at him. "How kind of you; the epitome of a true gentleman."
"Now, $name, how did you know that flattery was the way to my heart?"
Your gaze lowers from his golden eyes to his exposed neck. You follow the thick, juicy vein down to his chest. He says flattery is the way to his heart, but you know of a much more... efficient way to a human's heart.
"Your heart, you say?" You tease the words slowly out of your mouth, licking your lips as you do so.
[["Aurgh!"|Rohit wakes up]]
"—Will you two just fuck already?" A gravelly voice calls out.
Your attention shifts to the bound man on the ground. No longer unconscious, he glares with malice at you and Leo.
"Finally awake, //dog//?" Leo gets up from his seat and walks over to Rohit.
[[Watch]]
He crouches down beside Rohit and pulls out a dagger. Waving it around just inches away from Rohit's face, you wonder if Leo is about to do something you cruel. It wouldn't be the first time you've seen humanity's inhumane side.
"You caused a lot of trouble back in town," Leo says in a haunting deep voice. "It's time to pay for your crimes."
"You're the real criminal here," Rohit spits out. "How many of my kind have you hunted down and killed, just for a few measly coin?"
Leo sighs, bringing the dagger up to his own head and using the blade to scratch a spot above his ear.
//What sort of person does that?!//
"You've got me all wrong," he says, before lowering himself closer. He whispers the next words to Rohit, and perhaps if you were human you might not have heard him over the crackling of the fire and the singing the of insects at night.
But you're not human, and you did hear him.
"I don't hunt down //dogs// for coin, I do it for fun."
It is at that moment you realise, the human named Leo is much more dangerous than you originally thought.

]Rohit inhales a deep breath, shutting his eyes tightly as he does so. The pain seems to subside by the time he exhales.
"I won't let something like this kill me," he says with determination.
It's almost admirable, the way he clings to life. But it's also not very intelligent to have so much baseless confidence when he doesn't even know when he was poisoned—or if he was even poisoned at all, and not the work of witchcraft or something else.
"$name, I have a favour to ask." Rohit focuses his dark brown eyes—golden fire reflecting off them—on you.
You raise an eyebrow, cautious of what he may say next.
[[Listen to his request]]"Please," Rohit begs with those deep brown eyes. "Help escort me out of the woods and back to my pack."
