''Setting:'' Sealed tunnel network beneath Motherwell’s redevelopment zone.
''Sound:'' Generator hum, faint radio static, dripping condensation echoing through metal pipes.
You’ve been assigned a solo night inspection of a section marked **“STATION 7 – ACCESS RESTRICTED.”**
The air is stale, metallic, and heavy with damp.
As you walk, your boot kicks something metallic
a pager, half-buried in the concrete dust.
It flickers to life, displaying a single green word:
<span class="pager">PAGER: "REPORT TO STATION 7."</span>
The device shouldn’t even function
The model’s been discontinued for years.
[[Follow the instruction->Obedience 2A]]
[[Pocket it and continue working->Resistance 2B]]You follow the pager’s order down into the lower access corridor.
On the wall, a diamond symbol painted in deep red glows faintly under your torch.
You feel dizzy for a moment, like the air’s grown thinner.
<span class="pager">PAGER: "YOU’RE DOING WELL. TRUST THE PROCESS."</span>
Your vision sharpens strangely; colours deepen. You don’t realise that your canteen water, left open earlier, was dosed hours ago by unseen hands.
[[Continue following orders->Three Chambers 3A]]
[[Demand to know who’s speaking->Response Logged 3B]]You pocket the pager and continue your inspection, pretending it never buzzed.
But the sound follows — faint static, like a dying breath through the vents.
Even with it buried in your coat, you can feel its heartbeat against your chest.
The tunnel lights flicker. Something shifts in the dark.
[[Check the pager anyway->Obedience 2A]]
[[Ignore it and move deeper->Three Chambers 3A]]You shout into the tunnel: "Who’s there? Who’s sending this?"
The pager hesitates, then flickers violently.
<span class="pager">"RESPONSE LOGGED. DO NOT RESIST."</span>
Somewhere in the darkness, a mechanical hum begins. The tunnel behind you seals shut with a clang.
[[Continue->Three Chambers 3A]]You approach a corridor lined with three rusted doors. Faded stencils label them Station 5, Station 6, and Station 7. The pager vibrates violently in your hand.
<span class="pager">PAGER: "COMPLETE THE PROCESS. THREE STATIONS. THREE TRUTHS."</span>
Your breathing grows shallow, your thoughts murky. What waits behind each door is not real — it’s the architecture of your fear.
[[Enter Chamber One – The Past Buried Alive->Chamber One]]
[[Enter Chamber Two – The Fractured Mind->Chamber Two]]
[[Enter Chamber Three – The Ascension Chamber->Chamber Three]]The maintenance bay is flooded ankle-deep in black water. Pipes hiss above.
In the centre lies a rotting body, face down, still in a high-vis jacket. Static bursts across the pager screen.
<span class="pager">PAGER (distorted): "The water was rising… they said it was part of the test." "I didn’t pass. I didn’t ascend." "Don’t make the same mistake." "HELP… ME…"</span>
The name tag reads JACK.
You realise the voice belongs to this corpse
his soul trapped in the circuitry.
You kneel, lighting your spare fuel. The flames ripple across the water.
<span class="pager">"SOUL RELEASED."</span>
[[Proceed to Chamber Two->Chamber Two]]The tunnel stretches forever, lined with mirrors that shouldn’t exist.
Each reflection shows you at a different age, boy, husband & worker. They whisper together: “You were never enough.”
At the far end stands a figure in your father’s old mining gear, holding a helmet engraved with a red diamond.
<span class="pager">VOICE: "You’ve been underground your whole life, Tom. All that’s left is to dig deeper."</span>
Your scream comes out as static.
<span class="pager">PAGER: "LEADERS ARE FORGED IN SHADOW."</span>
[[Enter the final door->Chamber Three]]The final door opens to candlelight and chanting. A hall of concrete pillars filled with kneeling workers.
At the centre
The Jack of Diamonds and his two accomplices.
LEADER: "You’ve done well. The Process is complete."
DEALER 1: "He resisted, yet obeyed."
DEALER 2: "He’s ready."
The drug in your veins clouds thought.
<span class="pager">PAGER: "REMOVE YOUR HELMET."</span>
The leader presses his pager against your chest.
<span class="pager">"MERGE."</span>
Memories flood in — screams, fire, endless tunnels.
The leader collapses. The crowd chants: “HAIL THE NEW JACK OF DIAMONDS.”
[[Ascend->Ending Ascension]]
[[Flee->Ending Illusion]]
[[Destroy the pager->Ending Collapse]]You awaken alone in the tunnel. The candlelight is gone.
The pager glows softly in your palm.
<span class="pager">PAGER: "REPORT TO STATION 1. INITIATE THE PROCESS."</span>
A voice crackles from it — another worker.
"Hello? Is anyone still down here?"
**ENDING 1 – ASCENSION**
[[Restart the Cycle->Start Menu]]You awaken on the surface, air cold against your face.
You think you’re free. The sun burns away the dream.
Until..... the pager in your pocket buzzes.
<span class="pager">"WELCOME HOME, JACK."</span>
**ENDING 2 – THE ILLUSION**
[[Restart the Cycle->Start Menu]]You hurl the pager against the ground. The chamber begins to collapse, steel and dust raining from above.
Through the debris, you glimpse another pager still blinking.
<span class="pager">"THE DIAMOND NEVER DIES."</span>
**ENDING 3 – THE COLLAPSE**
