Some meters away is the shipwreck in rather rough condition. But not only that, you notice that the area surrounding the ship, all the way up to the tree line, is an absolute mess, as though an angry typhoon passed by. You think back, but don’t recall any weather warnings from [[the report]]. As Frank and Shaun secured the boat and grabbed their (supplies/weapons), you take out your radio and start walking along the beach. The radio crackles to life and you speak into it: "This is $PlayerName.[[Was there any extreme weather in this area recently?]]"Not a few seconds after you turned off the radio, it came back with Maggy’s bright voice: “No bad weather within the past 2 months. It’s been surprisingly [[calm.]]” You narrow your eyes at this remark. Around you, the beach is covered in piles of seaweed and twigs, with the roots of mangrove trees scattered throughout. There was hardly a single beautiful part of this beach, with even the sand looking more grey than golden yellow. And not to mention the trash and ship parts… they were everywhere! [[More so than the seaweed itself.]]From behind, Shaun and Frank were catching up to you. You keep striding forward at the same pace. Curiosity guides you to turn left and move aside the warped wood and roots, uncovering a rather intricate [[dagger]]. <!-- "You now have The Dagger--> (set: $HasDagger to true) It has no sheath, but the patterns engraved in the blade, and the style of the handle, cause you to pick it up. There are two in your immediate vision. One on the shore, the other on the deck. But both consist of the same actors - a father and son. You focus your attention on the two, deciding to first look closer at… [[The one on the shore.]] [[The one on the deck.]] You stop where you are and properly observe the scene before you. A small boy, looking around 6 years old, is crouching on the ground, appearing to be watching the water as it came up to, and receded from, the shore. Behind him a man stands watching the horizon of the sea. But what he [[saw… ]] You walk swiftly to Shaun's side and [[look at Frank. ]]His eyes are wide open, as if in shock, and blood was rushing from his nose. After seeing what happened to Frank, it was clear they couldn’t get close to the apparitions. But before that, you can’t help but notice a small detail; Frank’s shaking had tossed his gun just far enough to pick up. You look around and find a long mangrove tree root. [[You pick it up and wait for the apparitions moment to reset. ]] As soon as the man returns to standing behind the boy, you inch forward and use the root to pull the gun towards you. [[Your hand shakes]] as you constantly watch the apparition, afraid that if you touch them with the root, it may still harm you. ‘Thank god,’ you say in your mind as you hook the end of the root into the trigger guard, and drag the gun through the sand towards you. You can feel Shaun’s eyes on you. You aren’t too surprised; this is rather cold hearted, but why leave a weapon behind? [[This is only the beginning]] of the investigation, and already, one of us is dead. <!-- Picks up Pistol --> (set: $Gun to "Pistol")Picking up the Pistol, you indicate to Shaun that you should move on. Shaun seems apprehensive, but still follows, directing one last look to [[Frank’s body.]] You both walk around the apparitions and head for the ship. You spot an intact ladder on the side of the ship, but you also notice something on the beach close to the ship. [[Investigate the beach]] [[Head up the ladder]] You glance again at the mess across the beach. A small way from the ship is a metal box, about half the size of you. From a glance, you know it is a [[high grade containment box.]] And a few meters to the right, you seem to see a [[high grade leather book.]] The insignia on the front is that of the cargo ship, and potentially rather important. Aside from that you are intrigued by the shipwreck ladder, [[maybe we should head to it.|Head up the ladder]] What’s it doing out on the beach? Shaun takes hold of the ladder before you, ensuring that it’s still usable. He finds that it is still firmly attached to the ship, so he begins his ascent. [[You follow after him.]] You walk to the containment box. You see that the hinges for the door of the box are completely mangled and caved in. It makes sense now how an anomaly got out of such a strong box; The artillery shell must have hit it in passing when going through the hull. You walk around the box, checking for any other damages. But as you reach the back, you notice a black slate. [[You run your hand over it and note its smoothness.]] You walk to the pile of wood, roots, and seaweed, bending down to pick up the notebook. Thankfully, it wasn’t soaked. Some pages were stuck together from the dampness brought by the seaweed and wet sand, but as you look through the pages, you find that it doesn't matter much. It was the Captain's diary of sorts. With many interesting notes about the Anomaly you are investigating. It's mostly damaged, but there are a few pages that seem to be in-tact: [[Page 1]] [[Page 2]] [[Page 3]] [[PASSAGE 1]] [[Close the notebook]]You attempt to pull it off for further analysis, but find that it is very unwilling to budge. You decide not to ask Shaun for help, and instead [[pat yourself down to find anything to help.]] The dagger on your belt. It seems [[more than suitable.]] Using the Dagger, you chip away at the surrounding debris. With enough force, you pry the slate from the metal. You now have a palm sized black slate. Shaun turns and walks into the building, [[leaving the door open.]] Shaun nods, then turns and walks into the building, [[leaving the door open.]]Now alone, you need to make the best use of your time. For now, you notice two areas to investigate: (set: $CargoVisited to "false") [[Check the Cargo bay]] [[Go into the Accomodation building, Ground Floor]] You decide to check the Cargo Bay for any clues. What you find is that this anomaly is rather violent. Large metal crates have been reduced to scrap metal - destroyed like it was paper. You let out a [[long sigh]] at the sight with a grim face. (set: $CargoVisited to "true")Going in through the doors, you walk into a place strewn in chaos. It’s clear that the crew must have panicked during the events they went through and didn't care much for keeping the place tidy. Various papers and folders were across the floor, as well as the cushions from the sofas. Soil was covering the ground from the potted plants, and of course… blood was splattered across the place. It is in this moment that you realise that survivors are [[very unlikely.]] Apparitions that kill you just by touching them. Creating a controlled typhoon to destroy the area. Enough strength to rip and twist metal, and lastly... Extremely violent tendencies. You realise that a team of three is far from enough for this kind of mission. [[You pick up your radio...]][[“Maggy, this Anomaly is far more dangerous than what was stated. This requires a larger team and specialised equipment.”]]You wait to hear the familiar crackle that indicates a response, but five minutes seems to go by before you receive a response. Maggy’s voice finally crackles through, “Sorry $PlayerName, I’ve just spoken with my supervisor and there isn’t much we can do right now." "We need data on this anomaly pronto, and creating and dispatching a larger team will take far too long. We need you to [[keep going.” ]] You laugh bitterly and realise that you should’ve updated [[your will|leaving the door open.2]] before you came here…You move back over to the accommodation building in silence. Your only option right now is to explore this building with Shaun. [[Enter the Accomodation building, Ground Floor|Go into the Accomodation building, Ground Floor]] Looking around, you spot a map on the wall beside the door. You go over to have a look. You carefully walk around the mess and try to skim as many pages as possible in the hopes of finding some documents about the Anomaly. Most of the information is about the regular cargo, shift changes, ship work, etc. you don't actually find this very surprising, as most of the documents you're looking for are likely in the captain's area. But nonetheless, you keep looking, and surprisingly [[find something]] rather interesting! (set: $GroundFloorVisited to "true")You walk over to the heavy duty door with a warning sign. This door should lead down to the engine room. The heavy door opens with a screech. There is a staircase leading down which is rather dark, but at the bottom you see a dim orange light. And not old blood like in the other places, but [[fresh blood!]] (set: $SleepingQuartersVisited to "true") You walk up the stairs to the second floor. This is one of the floors dedicated to the crews sleeping quarters. After finding the Captains diary, it seems right to have a look and see if any of the crew has something similar. [[All information is good information]], after all. (set: $CaptainsQuartersVisited to "true") Going up to the fourth floor, you are met with very few doors. One door has a plaque saying ‘Captains Quarters’. You push open the door and head inside, being cautious as you look around. Powered by an adrenaline rush, you shuffle to face the anomaly again and see it beginning to dash towards you once more. [[Charge towards the anomaly]] [[Stand your ground]]Although painful, the dive helps you evade the attack. You scramble back to your feet to ready yourself for another attack. Looking onward, you see the Anomaly shaping up for another attack. [[Charge towards the anomaly]] [[Stand your ground]]Your fight or flight kicks in as you begin charging towards the anomaly. With your arms extended out in front of you wielding your only hope of survival, you wait for contact. When contact finally comes you are sent flying onto your backside from the anomalies momentum. [[Get up! Before it comes back! |Stand]]You plant your feet firmly into the ground and hold your knife out in front of you. Another loud screech shatters your confident facade as you see your hands begin to shake in front of you. The anomaly begins her dash. Before connecting with your target, you lower your head and shut your eyes waiting for impact. T he impact hits you hard, sending you onto your backside. [[Stand]]As you stand you notice the [[absence]] of your only weapon. With the dagger no longer in your possession, you panic and begin searching for it before you notice that [[the anomaly is not getting back up]]. The distant roar of a helicopter engine echoes through the sky but the anomaly still shows no reaction. [[Apologise]]The anomaly darts towards the locket, catching it before it could touch the ground. She stands motionless as she holds the locket in a firm grip. There’s not much to be seen other than the coast and the fog/haar makes it impossible to see further. You decide to follow your compass to lead you. You observe some birds fleeing from the island as the volcano’s eruption slowly starts. As you continue, you notice some documents scattered ahead by a tree. Looking closer at them, you can tell they are about the Anomaly terrorising the island. They detail how the Anomaly was fed while in captivity. Apparently it doesn’t have an appetite for meat and mostly consumes rice and vegetables. It’s odd that it’s a vegetarian creature but you take the documents and continue moving. You[[ continue]] onwards until you arrive at a cross-roads. Finally you can see that you are near your boat that you used to take to the island. Despite being the only one left from your crew, you cannot contain your excitement as you have finally made it. Unfortunately you are not alone either. Standing in your way as you look to make your escape is the Anomaly. She slowly turns around and notices your presence, blood dripping from her claws, and her cold eyes staring right through you You have no other option but to confront her. You place your hand on the door to leave, when you look behind you and think whether there is something you've missed. "I could try searching for some numbers again", you think.
