☥ Rules of Senet ☥

Objective

Move all five of your pieces off the board before your opponent. Pieces exit at square 40 (House of Horus).

Movement

The board has 40 squares in a serpentine path across 4 rows:

  • Row 1: left to right (1→10)
  • Row 2: right to left (20←11)
  • Row 3: left to right (21→30)
  • Row 4: right to left (40←31)

Throwing Sticks

  • 1 white = Move 1
  • 2 whites = Move 2
  • 3 whites = Move 3
  • 4 whites = Move 4 + Extra Turn!
  • 0 whites (all black) = Move 5

Only rolling 4 whites grants an extra turn!

Swapping

Landing on an opponent's single piece swaps positions with it.

Blocking

Two or more adjacent allied pieces form a block. Opponents cannot pass or land on blocked squares.

Special Squares

  • 36 - House of Rebirth: Safe (cannot be swapped)
  • 37 - House of Happiness: Safe square
  • 38 - House of Waters: Hazard! Piece sent to square 20
  • 39 - House of Three Judges: Safe, must land exactly
  • 40 - House of Horus: Exit square
