It's been a long day. And you haven't done any of your work.
Your groupmates are counting on you but.. You just can't seem to muster up the courage to just type what you need to type out. And this is important, too. You need to do this. But when you look at your computer, your mind just blanks.
You get yourself away from your desk, figuring that if you're not going to do anything, you might as well just leave and clear your head, which has been pretty overloaded recently. Maybe that's why you feel so overwhelmed. Who knows, though. You could just be incompetent as usual.
[[Go outside.]]
[[Stay inside and get a snack.]]You decide to go outside to get some fresh air.
The air is cold and crisp, but not too cold that it cuts through your coat. The sun is setting but there's still light outside, it feels like a nice time to take a walk considering you've holed yourself inside of your room doomscrolling on your phone the whole day.
You must've zoned out as the next thing you know, someone had tapped your shoulder, snapping you back to reality. You turn to your left, and felt your panic be replaced with fondness. It was just Kirsten.
"You alright, man? You weren't, like, listening to me when I was calling your name."
"Yeah- I'm fine. Sorry, I just have a lot on my mind, I guess."
"Yeah, you look like it. So what's up?"
"..."
[[Be honest with her.]]You decide to get a snack.
You were a little bit hungry, anyway. Maybe you just needed to eat something and then you could go and finish your work. You go downstairs and see that your aunt is in the kitchen eating a piece of toast with jam, she smiles at you. "Hi, Viitari," she said. "Hungry?"
"Hi, Auntie Nora. And yeah," you reply, deciding to eat..
[[A sandwich.]]
[[A bag of chips.]]You make yourself a sandwich with some cheese slices and leftover chicken. You and your aunt eat in silence for a bit before she speaks up again. "Hey, is something on your mind?"
"..."
[[Tell her what's been bothering you.]]
[[Don't tell her.]]You pull out a bag of sour cream flavored chips and begin crunching on them. Since it's Friday, you can have a little bit of junk food. You and your aunt eat in silence for a bit before she speaks up again. "Hey, is something on your mind?"
"..."
[[Tell her what's been bothering you.]]
[[Don't tell her.]]Yeah right.
[[Don't tell her.]] "I'm fine, school work has just been.. a lot. You know?" You weren't technically lying, but you weren't telling the truth either. You were used to telling half-truths at this point, even if you know you could tell her what's wrong. But you'd rather not burden her further.
Your aunt nods in understanding, "Yeah, I know how it feels. Just don't stress yourself out, okay?"
You almost snort at her suggestion, school and stress were basically intertwined at this point. But you simply nod while eating your sandwich. The conversation shifts to different topics, what's for dinner, potential plans for the weekend, about your father and so on. It feels nice talking to her, but eventually, the guilt of not doing your schoolwork caught up to you so you excuse yourself and go back to your desk.
You'll do you work this time. No excuses.

[[TRY AGAIN?]] You both sit down on a nearby bench, and you just tell her the truth. About your groupmates and the work you have to do, how it feels all so overwhelming and how everything feels like it's all crashing down all at once. And, even if Kirsten isn't good at emotions or responding, she's a damn good listener, and it felt nice to let it all out.
"Damn. Want some advice or?"
"No, I just needed someone to listen," you smile at her earnestly, "Thanks."
"Yeah, yeah. No problem and all that crap. If any of them give you trouble, though, I'll fuck 'em up for you." Kirsten waves a hand dismissively, it makes you smile a little wider. That was just her own way of saying she cares.
You look at your phone, and you decide it's time to go home. So you and Kirsten both say goodbye and go your separate ways. But you're more willing to take on that task of yours, even if it meant losing a bit of sleep. Or maybe you just wanted it out of your mind, either way, you finally have the motivation to finally get it over with.
