About ZenBonsai

ZenBonsai is a Virtual Bonsai game. Adopt a tree, water it and watch it grow. The tree grows slowly over the days, so this is a game of patience and calmness. Cut some leaves, bend some branches, strip off some bark. Especially: keep your zen. The bonsai tree is a reflection of your inner self. If all goes well, after a few days you'll have your own beautiful Bonsai.

Currently in beta-testing.

Help

Water
To water your tree, push the "water"button on the right. Waterlevel in the pot is shown by the blue indicator marked "W" on the topleft of the screen. The red line indicates the waterlevel of the tree itself. The waterlevel of the tree always follows the level of the pot. Your tree feels best when the red line is at 50%.

Bonsai Stress
Everything you do causes the tree to experience stress. Too much or too little water, cutting, pruning, bending, stripping. Bonsai Stress is indicated by the green-red indicator marked "S". If your tree is too stressed, the leaves turn yellow and the tree dies. Stress can be alleviated by giving your tree some rest, while keeping an eye at the waterlevels(keep the red line at 50%).

Sunlight
Your tree always grows towards the sun. You can see the sun direction by clicking the sun-button. You can displace the sun by clicking it once, then moving it. When you have found the right spot, click the sun once again. Placing the sun close to the tree will make it grow harder. But beware, placing it too close will cause the leaves to burn.

Selecting and deselecting(shortcut: d)
Branches and leaves can be selected by clicking them with the mouse. The branch will turn red and additional buttons will appear on the right. Deselecting is done with the deselect-button or by pushing "d" on your keyboard.

Cutting branches(shortcut: s)
Branches can be cut by selecting them with the mouse and pushing the "cut" button on the right. When cutting branches a scar will rest. Cutting causes bonsai stress.
Wherever you cut a branch or leaf, the tree will try to grow new leaves. If you want to stop this process, you should strip a bit of bark from the stump.

Bending branches(shortcut: < or >)
Branches can be manipulated by selecting them and pushing the < or > buttons on the right. Only small twigs can be bent, large ones can't. Bending causes bonsai stress.

Stripping off bark(shortcut: b)
You can strip off bark by selecting a branch and pushing the "strip bark" button. A small patch of bark will be stripped.
