The Elementalist

It's the morning. The light of the bright yellow sun hits your face and wakes you up, preparing yourself for the day. You know you need to work out and train while it's still early, but it looks like it's the perfect weather for a walk. You get changed into your training gear and head into your backyard. Your backyard is a flat piece of land amongst the mountain where your city lives. Where it's usually hard for others in your city to have large houses due to the terrain, your father is on the council, and therefore was granted a plateau for him and his family to live on. In this moment, you're thankful for that. You decide today that you want to train your: [[Fighting skills.]] [[Special abilities.]]

You make your way to the front yard and go for a walk on the mountain. The terrain here is steep, but you've navigated your way along these mountains since you were born, you know where to step without losing your footing. You breathe in the fresh, warm air, looking out onto the landscape of a cluster of mountains. This is familiar, this is home. A few hundred feet down, you find a woman lying on a small plateau. She isn't moving, and she looks like she's unconscious. Do you: [[Examine her.]] [[Report it to the authorities.]]

The sun slowly rises in the sky as you practive your fighting and sparring skills against one of the many standing dummies used for practice. You practice unarmed combat, staff fighting and knife fighting. There's a lot for you to work on, but it's becoming routine for you, and it all feels like second nature. By the time you finish, the sun is high in the sky and you're covered in sweat but satisfied with this morning's training. It's still a nice day. Do you: [[Go back inside.]] [[Go for a walk.]]

Concentrating, you find your hands alight with flames as you attempt to throw fireballs at some of the training dummies on the other side of the backyard. For hours you alternate between melee and ranged fighting, using your flames to attack the dummies. While you haven't had these abilities for long, you think you're finally managing to get the hang out of them. It feels good, like electricity pulsing through your veins as you use the flames. Finally you finish, sweaty and exhausted. The sun's high in the air, but it's still such a lovely day. [[Go for a walk.]] [[Go back inside.]]

No one else is home, and you could do whatever you like. Do you decide to: [[Take a nap.]] [[Cook some breakfast.]]

You go back to bed, not even bothering to change out of your clothes. Your eyes finally begin to shut when... [[TAP, TAP, TAP.]]

You manage to whip up something to eat, sitting down when -- [[TAP, TAP, TAP.]]

Your eyes shoot open and you groan, moving to the window where you find the source of the noise. Outside is your best friend, Fant. Wide eyed with his signature mischeivous grin. You sigh, and open the window. "What?" You ask, not bothering to greet him. You always interact like this, since you were little kids. "I found something," Fant begins, "well - someone. You gotta come see!" [[Follow Fant.]]

(set: $followfant to true) You follow Fant down the mountain, the hot midday sun burning the back of your neck. You walk for what feels like hours. Every time you try to ask Fant where you're going, he just shushes you and says "not long now". Your muscles ache from your training, you just want to go to sleep. Finally, Fant stops, and points to a small plateau where a woman appears to be lying, unmoving. It looks like she's unconscious. [[Examine her.]] [[Question Fant.]]

You check to see if she's still breathing, and are glad to see the rise and fall of her chest. You begin to notice her skin is pale, as oppose to the dark skin of your people, and she appears to have gills on her neck and webbed fingers. She's not from around here. [[Try to wake her.]] [[Report it to the authorities.]]

You ask him who the girl is. "Beats me, I just went for a walk and found her laying there. Should we check her out?" [[Examine her.]] [[Report it to the authorities.]]

(if: $trytowakeher is true) ["No, please!" The girl exclaims. "They'll kill me! I shouldn't be here." "Stay put," you tell her. "Everything will be fine."] (if: $followfant is true) ["Are you sure you wanna do that?" Fant asks, raising an eyebrow. "You don't know what they'll do to her." "My father is part of the Council," you tell Fant, "I can't just not tell them."] You make your way to the Tower, requesting to speak with the Chosen. You want to impress her and the Council. Your father, a long standing member, thanks you for being upfront with them, and he tells you that they will deal with the issue. [["What will you do with her?"]] [[Leave.]]

"Not to worry, my darling. We have a special way of dealing with Outsiders." You ask if this means they'll kill her. "Well, it's possible she's a spy sent to kill us, or worse. We cannot take that chance. Now, it's best you go back home." [[Leave.]]

(if: $followfant is true)[Before Fant has the chance to say anything, you grab his hand and drag him out of the Tower, thanking the Chosen and the Council for their time. He tells you he doesn't think what you did is right, and goes home.] You go back home, exhausted. You lay down, and think about what will become of the girl. (if: $trytowakeher is true) [You begin to feel sick with guilt at the thought you may have just given her a death sentence. Maybe she didn't deserve it.] Fin. (t8n: "dissolve")[[Try again?->Start]]

(set: $trytowakeher to true) Slowly, she begins to rouse, looking at you confusedly. [[Introduce yourself.]] [["How did you get here?"]]

"I'm Mija. Where - where am I?" [["You're in the mountains."]] [["What are you?"]]

"Uh, I'm not sure. I blacked out." Strange. What could she be doing here? She looks around. "What is this place? Who are you?" [[Introduce yourself.]] [["You're in the mountains."]]

"The ... mountains? I'm not familiar. I've never been to mountains." [["Never?"]] [["Where are you from?"]]

"What are you?" She replies, defensively. [["You ... have gills."]] [["I'm Fotián."]]

"No, they do not have mountains where I'm from." [["Where are you from?"]]

"I'm from Mizu." That's another continent. You remember that people from other continents aren't allowed to cross over. It's been forbidden for centuries. [[Report it to the authorities.]] [["You're not allowed to be here."]]

"Very observant. You have glowing eyes and bright freckles." You almost snort, smiling slightly. She's definitely ... interesting. [[Take her to your place.]] [["I should take you to someone who will do help."]]

"Oh, no. I need to get home! Do you have a place where I can stay? I just need a couple of days to figure out how to get back home." You could take her to your house and help her get home, but that could be dangerous. Surely the people at the Council might be able to help? Your father is one of them, he would know what to do when dealing with an Outsider. [["I should take you to someone who will do help."]] [[Take her to your place.]]

"I don't know how to get home. I don't even know how I got here." She looks around, dejectedly. She truly looks lost. (if: $followfant is true) [Fant turns to you, arms folded across his chest. "We can take her to your place, right? No one's home? I'd take her to mine, but my mother might be home any minute." You know no one is at your house, but do you really want to risk harbouring an Outsider? That's dangerous.] [[Take her to your place.]] [[Report it to the authorities.]]

You tell her that she should come with you, and you'll lie low until your father comes home. You don't want to let him know there is an Outsider at your place, and you don't like the thought of reporting it to the Council, in case they plan to kill her. As far as you know, she's innocent. "Thank you. Really, I cannot thank you enough." Back at your house, you plan with her and try to figure out how on earth you're going to get her back home. Fin. (t8n: "flicker")[[Try again?->Start]]
