ASCENDANT

A re-imagining of The Sentinel. No true height exists here — instead every tile carries a vantage score, shown by its shading and contour lines. Climb it, and you climb everything that matters.

Every Gaze standing at a summit was once a climber, like you — a stray thought that absorbed the watcher before it and put on its shape. That is why the land always regenerates, taller, for whoever climbs next.

Goal: absorb the Gaze at the summit, then take its place to ascend.

Act: tap or click any tile you can see — not just adjacent ones — to open a ring of actions right on that tile. Pick one to act instantly. Tap empty space or the center marker to cancel.

Grow plants a tree for cover — can't be eaten back for energy · Stack permanently piles up the ground itself, raising its vantage · Absorb a wild tree/rock/sentry/your own husk for energy, at any range, as long as you can see it and your vantage ≥ its ground height · Shell plants a body anywhere visible to teleport into — anchor it on top of a wild rock, if you can see the rock's summit, and its height folds permanently into the ground · Enter jumps you into any shell or husk of yours you can currently see.

You and everything that watches stand 2 units tall; a sightline is blocked only by whatever's actually in the way.

Gaze: a watcher that sees you stops sweeping and locks on, draining Energy directly — faster the longer it holds you. Waiting it out doesn't work anymore; break its line of sight (cover, higher ground, or a planted tree) or teleport away before Energy runs out.

3D VIEW: a free-fly wireframe look at the whole landscape — drag/WASD to look and fly, wheel or the on-screen pad to move. Tap any tile you can see (terrain or object) to open the same ring of actions as the top-down view, so you can play a whole level without ever switching back. The gaze still works while you're up here.

Desktop: drag/wheel to pan & zoom, arrow keys move the tile cursor, Enter opens its ring, 1–5 pick a ring action (shown as a small number on each button — 3 is always ABSORB), V toggles 3D view, Esc cancels. Just hovering the mouse over a tile arms these same hotkeys for it, so you can act without clicking first.
Touch / Steam Deck: drag to pan, pinch to zoom, tap to act — everything above the bottom bar is reachable with a thumb.

Level codes: every level number always generates the same landscape, so the number shown as LVL in the HUD is a code you can share or return to directly below. Ascending with energy to spare skips you ahead that many levels further, same as the original game.
