Just the instrument
Click the central display or the MENU softkey to open the instrument menu. CFG opens Settings. Everything stays inside the display menu: no permanent panels below the keyboard. Closing it does not resize the synth or reset your edits.
Play and shape
Press POWER to enable audio. Drag knobs vertically, use the mouse wheel or the arrow keys. Hold Shift for fine adjustment; double-click to reset. The A/D/S/R faders control attack, decay, sustain and release. A/D/S apply to new notes; release also applies to the next note-off.
A W S E D F T G Y H U J K O L P plays notes. Z/X shifts the computer-keyboard octave. 1–8 triggers the pads. Space starts or stops the sequencer. Esc closes the menu, or stops all notes when the menu is already closed. Shift + Esc always stops all notes. Shortcuts do not trigger while typing in a text field.
Find your sound
Display → Presets opens 48 synth patches in Bank 01 and three chime/SFX patches in Bank 02. Search, filter by category and save favorites. The triangle button previews a patch. Double-click a patch, or choose “Play this patch”, to return to the instrument. These are original synthesis recipes, not samples or presets from another commercial instrument.
Drums, FX and samples
Display → Drums, FX pads or Samples selects the bank played by the eight physical pads. In Synth, “Pads: chords” assigns them to chords. Right-click a physical pad to open its editor. Drag one or more audio files onto a pad, or choose “Load to pad”. Multiple files are assigned in order, without going beyond pad 8. A lit load indicator marks an imported sample.
Level, pitch, pan, decay, start, reverse and MIDI note are independent for each pad. One-shot ignores note-off; Gate stops on release; Loop repeats while held. Preview is limited to five seconds. Pitch changes playback speed: there is no time-stretching. The step editor shows the selected pad row; all eight rows play together.
Keep your work
Display → Synth → Save preset stores a patch in the User bank and exports a JSON copy. Display → Settings → Export session includes patch, patterns and imported samples. A patch alone does not contain samples. Themes, favorites and mappings use local browser storage when available. Samples are not restored on reload: import your exported session.
Limits: 128 user presets; 20 MB and 60 seconds per audio file; 60 MB of original audio files; 96 MB of decoded PCM. Previous V-SYNTH patch and session JSON files are accepted. Saved browser preferences can be migrated only on the same browser origin; use JSON export/import when moving between local files and itch.io.
MIDI and audio
Display → Settings → Connect MIDI asks for permission. In Auto mode, channel 10 plays the pad bank and other channels play the synth. Right-click a knob or slider for MIDI learn, then move a hardware control. A browser or embed may block MIDI; the instrument remains playable with mouse and computer keyboard.
KIMEsynth1 is a browser instrument, not a compiled VST3. It uses the system audio output and its own tempo; it does not provide ASIO or automatically connect to FL Studio. Hardware MIDI and device-specific latency need testing on your setup.
