SQUIRRELS

Guide them home. Every tail counts.

How to play

Squirrels is a rescue puzzle game: woodland squirrels drop out of a nest box high in the trees and march straight ahead, and it's your job to give the right squirrels the right jobs so enough of them make it home to the burrow.

  • Goal: squirrels drop out of the nest box and walk straight ahead — off cliffs, into water, anywhere! Get enough of them into the glowing burrow before time runs out. The level tells you how many you need to save.
  • Give jobs: pick a job on the bottom bar, then tap a squirrel. Each job has a limited number of uses (the number on the button). Climb and Glide last forever — a green dot over a squirrel means it already climbs, a blue dot means it already glides.
  • Climb — scales any wall. Glide — spreads its flaps to float down safely from any height (a squirrel can have Climb and Glide together). Pop — after 5 seconds it pops and blasts a hole in the ground.
  • Block — stands still with arms out; everyone who walks into it turns around. Build — lays a staircase of 12 bricks. Bash — punches straight ahead through a wall. Mine — tunnels down at a slant. Dig — digs straight down.
  • Tricks: a Blocker never moves on its own — when you're ready to let everyone go, Pop it, or tunnel the ground out from under it to save it too. A Builder whose staircase hits a wall stops for a moment: give it Bash right then to punch on through. Give the next Build just as the last one runs out of bricks to keep a bridge going.
  • Careful: falling too far is a bad bump, and water is a no-go. Stone walls (grey granite blocks) can't be dug, bashed, mined or popped.
  • Look around: drag the level (or tap the little map) to scroll. + makes squirrels come out faster (− slows them again, but never below the level's starting rate). Turn it up when the clock is tight; keep it low while a Builder is still working. Pause freezes time — you can still hand out jobs. Fast-forward speeds things up. The bomb button pops everyone (tap twice).
  • Stuck? After a try, Watch how plays one way to solve the level.
  • Keyboard: 1–8 pick a job, click a squirrel to give it, ← → scroll, Space pause, . fast-forward, − / = release rate.

About Squirrels

There are eight jobs — climbers, gliders, poppers, blockers, builders, bashers, miners and diggers — and each level only gives you a few of each. Thirty levels across three worlds: a forest warm-up, then real puzzles in the style of the classic — hold the crowd back while a builder works, free your own blocker, thread a tunnel between stone, fight two nest boxes at once, and turn up the release rate to beat the clock with eighty squirrels on the march. Stuck? After a try, Watch How plays one way through. It's a great game for planning ahead, and the squirrels never get hurt — a bad bump just leaves one dizzy. Best for ages 6 and up.
