Typing Life

Privacy Policy

Last updated 13 October 2026

The short version: you can play Typing Life without an account, and then nothing about you leaves your browser. If you sign in with Discord or Google, we keep your display name, your profile picture link and your game progress so you can play on any device and appear on the leaderboards. We never receive your password or email address, we don't show adverts, and we don't sell or share your data.

Who we are

Typing Life is a typing game at typing.org.uk, run by an individual in the United Kingdom. For anything about your data, email info@typing.org.uk.

Playing as a guest

Without an account, your progress and settings are saved only in your own browser's storage on your device. We don't receive them. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.

What we keep when you sign in

You can sign in with Discord or Google. When you do, they tell us only your account's public ID number, display name and profile picture link. We store:

We do not receive or store your password, email address, friends list, messages or anything else from your Discord or Google account.

Typing Life on Steam

The Steam version signs you in with your Steam account. Steam tells us your SteamID (a public account number) and, where your Steam profile allows it, your Steam name and profile picture link. We store these in place of a Discord or Google ID, and we don't receive your Steam password, email address, friends list or payment details. Valve runs Steam and looks after your Steam account data under its own privacy policy.

The Steam version also keeps a copy of your guest progress on your computer and in Steam Cloud, which Valve stores for you (you can switch Steam Cloud off in Steam). Steam shows your Steam achievements and a short status in your friends list, such as “Farming · Level 42”.

If you link the Steam version to an account you made on this website, the Steam link is stored on that account, and you can ask us to remove it. A link code is kept for 10 minutes at most.

What other players can see

Your display name, profile picture and cosmetic look appear on leaderboards and competition results, along with your scores. Clicking a name on a leaderboard opens that player’s profile card, which shows the same name, picture and look, plus a summary of their game progress: level, best speed, cards collected, Guardians beaten, Ascensions, achievements, time played, personal bests on each leaderboard, how many competitions they have entered, and when they joined and last played. Nothing else about you is shown to other players.

Why we use it

We use this information only to run the game: to save your progress, to sign you in, to show leaderboards and competitions, to reward invitations, and to keep the leaderboards fair by spotting automated or impossible runs. Under UK data protection law, our lawful basis is that this is necessary to provide the service you asked for when you created an account, and our legitimate interest in keeping the game fair and secure.

Cookies and storage

We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary, so no cookie banner is needed. A second short-lived cookie is used only during sign-in to protect it. The game also uses your browser's local storage to save your progress and settings on your device. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, and the game's fonts are served from our own site.

Security and abuse protection

Sign-ins are protected with secure, HTTP-only cookies. To stop abuse, our server briefly counts requests by IP address; these counts are kept for minutes, not stored long term. Our web host may keep standard server logs, which can include IP addresses, for a short time for security.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and save for as long as you have an account. Signing out keeps them so you can come back. Delete your account and everything linked to it is erased.

Deleting your account

In the game, open your profile, choose Account & cloud save, then Delete account. This permanently removes your account, cloud save, leaderboard and competition entries, and invite records from our server straight away. Your browser keeps its own local copy of your progress until you clear it. You can also email us and we will delete it for you.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, or object to how we use it. Email info@typing.org.uk and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Typing Life is suitable for all ages, but accounts are intended for people aged 13 or over, in line with Discord's and Google's own age rules. Younger players can play as a guest, which keeps everything on their own device.

Where your data is stored

Your account data is stored on our web host's servers. Signing in passes you briefly through Discord or Google, whose own privacy policies apply to their part. Steam sign-ins are checked with Valve's servers.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the game.
