There is a small crack in the wall, found only by running your hands where your eyes cannot see. Inside the crack you find a [[Silver Key]].This small key is mildly warm to the touch and gives you a slight feeling of joy, like finding one glass of lemonade left in the pitcher on a summer evening.
You find yourself drawn to the [[scroll]].

(set: $silverkey to true)You pull the tack from the wall. The scroll falls to the ground, landing in a puddle. (set: $acid to 1)You laugh at the words, a strange glint in your eye. Fear finds no place in your heart and you feel as if you will be able to find your way through the maze in no time. You check your gear, realize you have none, shrug at whatever minor inconvenience this may cause along the way and set off. You grab a [[rock]] for good measure. The words ring deeply in your heart, a cloud settling on your mood. Pain and anguish resonate in the language and for a second you can see your doom waiting for you just behind a few feet of stone. A shiver runs through your body and you quickly look around for anything that may be of use as a weapon--something with which you might protect yourself.
You find a [[rock]].Fear racks your body and you wrap yourself around your knees, tucking your chin against your chest. Hyperventilation leaves you woozy and everything becomes grey for a moment. Suddenly, a sharp pain strikes you in the side of the head and something tumbles to the ground next to you.
You [[pass out]].
Wow, you feel nothing. That could be handy with what is to come. You look at a nearby rock, sharing in it's mantle of exhistential nihilistic dread. You decide to pick it up and [[bring it along->rock]].
You don't have any friends. The acid feels pity for you and offers a hug. Do you accept?
[[Yes]]
[[No]]You turn heel and run the opposite direction. The puddle of acid does not give chase, because, well, it is acid. You run fast and you run hard and you find yourself back at the [[wall1]].You stand your ground and with the grace of a bumblebee hold the thumbtack between forefinger and thumb, a true Zorro of the office supply world. The acid bubbles at you and you can't tell if it is afraid of your tiny sword or if it is laughing at your pathetic attempts.
The acid tentacle splashes all over your hands and the brass tack, melting your skin and fusing your bones into a single club-like appendage. This will make work very challenging, but you are sure that you can learn to live with your newly-abled body. Life won't be easy, but it will be life. You accept this and become a public-speaker on the behalf of those who have found new abilities in their body by way of acid. The world accepts your message and acid becomes and illegal substance, though this was never part of your intended message. People cling dearly to both sides of the debate over whether acids, which could have produced the first life, should be banned. War erupts over whether or not we have the power to control life itself.
But you, you're just fine.
You have kids or you dont, and at your death they harvest your genetics and create new replicants of your DNA.
One day, while out walking, the new you sees a sign that points ahead and says [[Maze]].
You ask the Acid to please not attack you until you understand one another's motives, and interestingly enough, the acid obliges.
It bubbles at you, you gurgle back. There are a few splashes that make the ground near you smoke and steam but you can tell those were accidents, and that the acid didn't really mean to do that.
You and the acid create a bond. The acid asks you to come to its birthday party next Thursday. Of course you say that you will, you even offer to bring the drinks. The acid laughs and tells you not to bring Milk.
<img src="https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/Acid.png">
Do you bring Milk?
[[Yes->yes1]]
[[No->no1]]It's acid! It wraps you up a warm embrace that eats through your clothing and your skin! It hurts, a lot! Your smile fades to a cry of anguish as the stench of your own melting flesh fills your nostrils and death greets you at the with a cold handshake.

You bring Milk to Acid's birthday party. Milk is pretty base, and it and Acid don't get along AT ALL. Acid is pretty pissed off about the fact that you brought Milk when Acid EXPLICITLY said not to.

You are drawn further into the maw, bones shattering as your body breaks to fit through a hole big enough for only your shoulder.
Sadly, you remain conscious throughout this entire effort, feeling every puncture of your internal organs. Your last thoughts focus on all the things you were never able to do in your life.

You walk slowly, ponderous questions weighing down your thoughts. So deeply entrenched are you in your own mind that you forget that you are walking in another's, and you only notice the strange plate beneath your foot when it depresses beneath your weight.
A loud whirring noise starts up and you can see gears clicking in deep recesses of the wall.
Now what?

Eddies of dust swirl around you and you realize that the tiny fragments of rock aren't falling, but are hanging in the air.
Just before the last breath is forced from your lungs you realize that a stone wall now fills the space you had walked into, becoming part of the maze. You cannot read it, but the symbols cause dread deep in your soul. Their images show humans contorted in obscene positions amidst other bizarre adaptations of reality; a something that might have been. As you stoop closer your skin begins to crawl.

When your eyes catch up with your olfactory senses you are pleased to see the brown jugs sitting on a table in the center of the hall, each with no markings.
As you step up to the jugs you realize that the scent of apple blossoms is coming from the center jug. The one to the left has a sweetish, almost anise odor. The one to the right smells like vinegar.
You suddenly find yourself VERY parched.
What do you do?
[[Take a sip of the center one]].
[[Take a sip of the one on the left]].
[[Take a sip of the one on the right]].
[[Walk past the table]].You boldly head into the darkness, carving a path where no living person has before you.
As you go to take your first step, it becomes quite apparent as to 'why' no one else has come this way as the floor disappears from beneath your feet and you find yourself far LESS nimbly bimble than a cat.
You body contorts strangely as you plummet down to the spike-lined pit below. Rusty spears erupt through the various soft points of your flesh, some jarring bones and forcing organs into appendages. The last thought that goes through your mind is the date of your last tetanus innoculation, but then again that seems a whole lot less important given other factors.
You have [[died->Maze]].You turn around and find that the stone walls of the Maze have closed in behind you, stopping you from traveling backwards at all. You can only progress forward.
[[Go Back->right2]]Wowweee does that smell good! You tip back the jug and swish a mouthful of grainy liquid around, involuntarily crunching what feels like sugar crystals with your teeth.
Sadly, it doesn't TASTE like sugar crystals and as the liquid passes down your gullet, which is now siezing in a kind of a choking and vomitting ballet, you strangely remember something your chemistry teacher said about [[Cloracetophenone]] and the dangers of this particular tear gas and how it burns the lungs.
Your body, not always in the best of communication with your mind, is experiencing these not-so-endearing effects quite rapidly. Your lungs burn and breath escapes you as all the pores in your face erupt with sweat; snot covers your chin and dripping into your mouth.
It takes a few moments, not many but too many for you, before you are [[dead->Maze]].Anise and licorice are more to your "adult" tastes.
You carefully lift the left jug and pull a small drought, savoring the cool clear liquid as you gag and begin to vomit painfully. The jug crashes to the ground as a flashback of 9th grade chemistry reveals a woman in a labcoat talking about the dangers of use [[Chloropicrin]] on anything that would be consumed soon after.
She never thought she would have to warn anyone not to drink the stuff itself. At least you have someone to blame as you writhe on the ground and inhale chunks of your own stomach lining as your body attempts to purge itself of the vile liquid the brain has recently chosen for the mouth to imbibe.
Your brain, no longer receiving oxygen, decides to go on a temporal holiday and zips out kit-and-kaboodle.
Unluckily, that means that you are now [[dead->Maze]].You know a trick when you see it! You reject the sweet-smelling ambrosias in favor of the pungent and throat-tickling smell of straight vinegar. Inhaling deeply of the aroma as you lift the bottle to your mouth. Before you can even take a sip your body starts shaking as your lungs burn with pain. Shaking, your hands fumble the jug and a tepid, colorless liquid pours from the shaped mouth all over your face and eyes.
This is the last thing you ever see.
You remember when you were younger, dozing in chemistry class while the woman in the lab coat at the front of the room talked in a droning tone about how one should safely handle [[Hydrofluoric Acid]].
You did not listen then, and you are paying the price now.
Your eyes melt as the last bit of air in your scorched lungs expires and you fall to the ground in a bubbling, steaming pile of flesh and bone, where surely only your teeth will be left to sing the tale of your passing.
Though, there aren't many that come this way to tell the truth.
You are [[dead->Maze]].Smart. Aaaand good looking. You must be the whole package.
Who drinks from a random table in a random maze just because some random text on the screen TELLS them they are thirsty?
I MEAN IT'S NOT LIKE THE WHOLE REALITY OF THE GAME RELIES ON YOU TRUSTING THESE WORDS.
Whatever.
You pass through the doorway at the end of this hall, looking back at what could have been a beautiful drink and an easy way to skip past levels 3-17, but hey! You played it safe! You're alive, here, now, on level 2, and that's what matters.
Err...right?
[[Pass through the doorway|Continue down this passage.]]A visual comes to mind, like pulling files from a filing cabinet.

[[Go Back->Take a sip of the one on the right]]You let out a loud and piercing shriek, using what your mama gave ya and belting it out like a sunday church choir.
Interestingly enough, things that can hear better than you are probably more likely to be unable to handle extremely high-pitched, shrill sounds, like the one that just tore itself from your vocal chords.
You hear a strange huffing and grunting noise followed by the sound of salmons flopping on cement.
It has fled, for now.
[[Continue down this passage.]]You charge forward, courageous and bold. Holding your hands before you with your fingers wrapped around your thumbs, you declare fisticuffs and swing with a hearty blow.
No one ever taught you how to punch properly, and the giant haymaker form you just used is sorely lacking. Your thumb breaks as your hand collides with a skull thicker than your own. That skull, or the central brown mass that you can see of it, lunges suddenly at your face, leaving you no time to do, well, anything.
Except die, there's always time for that.
And die you do, in glorious fashion. The creature gores you with a pair of massive horns and drags your entrails away, coating the hallway with a fresh layer of blood.
<img src="https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/bullhead.png">

Luckily, your honor is saved by the proximity of the wall that has closed in behind you, no more than a handsbreath from your face.
Sadly, you only had a moment before it was upon you, and you used it turning around.
You'll never see the eyes as they charge through the darkness, reflecting what little light is to be had.
You'll never see the horns as they lower just before entering your flesh above the kidney, twisting sideways so that the tips rake up through your lungs and force blood from your esophogaus.
As your body is lifted on the head of what you can only assume to be some bull-like creature, you catch a glimpse of the freshly coated walls, red with blood.
You are [[dead->Maze]].Ahead of you stands a door with a bright silver lock.
<img src="https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/silverlockdoor.png">
{(if: $silverkey is true)[You pull the silver key from your pocket and slide it into the lock where it makes a very satisfying click. The door begins to open, a bright light illuminating its edges. [[Open the door and step inside]]]
(if: $silverkey is false)[You stare at the lock, wondering if there wasn't something you missed somewhere. This feeling has been nagging you for some time, and you couldn't quite shake it. As you stare at the cold metal of the lock that bars your path you feel your hopes falling to pieces, any dream of ever leaving this place crumbling like your bones soon will. Dust to dust, and whatnot.
You are [[dead|Maze]].]}You turn around to run away, naming yourself for the coward that you are. The wall that has seemingly popped up out of nowhere refutes your passage and demands a (link: "toll")[BLOOD toll] for your failure of spirit.
Thousands of tiny warriors fling themselves at you from the stone adjacent you, piercing your flesh with a thousand tiny knives. You are stabbed over and over again, no blade longer than the stinger of a bee, and yet no matter how hard you try, once they are on you, you cannot seem to get the creatures back off.
Rolling on the ground and screaming for pain doesn't seem to help, not you anyway.
It helps them a lot; lets them kill you much faster, which I guess is better for everyone in the long run.
(set: $splat to 1)
You are [[dead->Maze]].You charge forward, You wave your arms wildly around your head and flailing about like a madman. You laugh as you recite the recipe for lemon banana custard backwards in Polish.
This is a dance these scriptlings recognize. The tiny creatures join you in your paganistic ablutions, their weapons falling from their grip.
You quickly make it past what seems to be some new friends and wave as you go. It looks like there's an intersection up ahead.
[[Go to the intersection]].You throw your hands up and put on your most charismatic smile, hoping to impress better than you have dressed.
The tiny creatures consider you for a moment, heads cocked to the side in unison. Then, with an ullulating cry they turn upon one another and begin a slaughter the likes of which you have never seen.
It seems that somewhere in their mythology rested the seed of a story, a story that developed into a tale and further into a legend. A legend of the greate white crescent that would someday fill the ambiently green void that filled the room.
The tiny creatures slaughter themselves to the last one, leaving the walls in this room bare and slick in truth.
Apparently you were saved by your good dental hygiene. Wow.
You walk through the room at a leisurely pace, spotting an [[intersection->Go to the intersection]] up ahead.
You stand your ground wielding... your rock!
That fancy rock you found earlier!
<img src="https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/rock.png">
What a great time for that to come in handy!
Smashing about with the your rock, you create quite an intimidating image. The tiny devils flee from your obviously greater presence and swear to never challenge you again.
As they run, you see one of them kill another of them, then grab something from the first one's head and put it on her own. She raised her sword high above her head, everyone stopped running, and you feel the weight of change hanging in the air.
Better [[keep moving along->Go to the intersection]].In front of you is an intersection of paths.
The path to your left looks clear, but slopes upward at a rather sharp angle. The path to your right continues the slope from the left at a downward angle.
The path ahead of you is well-lit and dry.
Do you go [[left->left4]], [[right->right5]], or [[straight]]?<img src:"https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/waterfountain.png">
You are heedless of your recent history and decide to trust in a water source that you cannot see and know nothing about. Gods be damned, but you just KNOW that someone wouldn't put a water fountain here just to poison the damn thing and stand in a corner to watch you die a horrible and purple death.
And you are correct.
The water is cool and refreshing, tasting only slightly of iron, which is a pleasant memory because Grandma and Grandpa had well-water that they kept cold in an apple juice jug in the fridge, and it taste like iron too.
Your thirst is quenched and you feel ready to take on whatever is ahead.
You mutter a word of thanks to, well, whoever.
"You're Welcome" burbles up from the drain.
...
Up ahead you see that the path splits and you can go either [[left->left3]] or [[right->right4]].You pick up an old, hard, water-logged piece of gum that has been sitting in a drain for who-knows-how-long and pop it into your mouth.
It was once strawberry. Now, the taste is more just the straw. Like a plastic one.
You hear some strange moaning sound from within your mouth and spit the gum into your hand.
<img src="https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/bubblegum.png">
"No, no, don't stop." It rolls onto it's side and you see yellow eyes and a pencil drawing of a mouth. "I just loooovee being chewed."
Do you [[put it back in your mouth]] or [[throw it away]]?You have spent too much time in this dark and dreary place to be fooled by such a menial and obivous trap as this. You give the fountain a wide berth as you pass, hugging the opposite wall for good measure.
Nothing bad happens. You took the safe route.
But you are still thirsty, and there is no telling when you may find another place to get a drink.
You hope it won't be too long. You're not sure you can stomach the mix of coffee and energy drinks you had a second time.
Up ahead you see a wall, with the path going either [[left->left3]] or [[right->right4]].Falling prey to your pedantic desires, you use the pointy part of your rock to carve three horizontal lines and the vertical base of the defunct letter, then lean back with petty pleasure to examine your newest piece of grammatical glory.
The water fountain gives you an an impetuous stare and leaps into the air, landing on top of you with the full force of a pre-ozone cooling system, slowly crushing the life from your body.
<img src="https://jaredzeiders.neocities.org/waterfountain.png">
The last thing you hear is a watery gurgle saying, "My name is Brok'n."
You are [[dead->Maze]].To the left you go, onward full of confidence.
Confidence is a good thing to have, and when you have no clue what could be around each corner, well, you might as well be confident, right?
The dangerous thing happens when you begin to have confidence in the author of any given story, however, as that allows the author to take certain liberties while abusing that confidence, knowing that she or he will never be around to feel the repercussions of their actions.
(Link: "But I would never do that to you.")[No seriously, I would never.]
[[Keep on going|forward2]].Heeding the (supposedly) ancient words of wisdom tacked to the front wall of the Maze, you round the right corner and step headlong into your destiny.
Ahead of you sits an old computer. A Macintosh screen lights up with a soft buzzing sound and you are greeted with the first true light source you have seen since entering into this abysmal hell.
A soft "phbong" sound fills the air and you are extended a warm greeting filtered through the lackluster and poorly powered speakers of decades-old technology. A warm sense of nostalgia fills your heart.
You notice a box sitting next to the computer, rectangular in shape with a hinged, see-through plastic lid.
<iframe width="573" height="430" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XZ1mpI01evk?autoplay=1" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You place the "gum" back in your mouth and begin chewing again. The moaning increases for a moment and then maintains a pretty steady pace as long as your teeth continue to masticate the strange material.
A few moments go by and you realize that you are no longer thirsty and the moaning has stopped.
You spit the "gum" back into your hand and place it back in the catch-try for whoever else may want some.
Up ahead you see that the path has split and you can go either to the [[left->left3]] or the [[right->right4]].Heartlessly, and with no thought as to who is going to have to clean up your litter, you throw the gum to the floor where some spider walking by IMMEDIATELY steps in it looks up at you with a "c'mon dude, really?" look.
You know the one.
Moments later a strange voice comes over a loudspeaker system that you were previously completely unaware of and announces:
"LITTER DETECTED IN HALLWAY 12-937. COMMENCE WITH INCENDIARY SANITATION PROTOCOLS"
Panic fills your empty soul as fire gouts from the walls in an intersecting lattice of burning death, and it is only in your last moments that you realize the severity of that which you have done.
DON'T LITTER, ASSHOLE.
You are [[dead->Maze]].You squat down in front of the digital friendship machine and double click the small yellow person.
You wait a few moments.
Then a few more.
Suddenly, a terrible, high-pitched scream rips through your ears as time and space work to connect the technological marvel in front of you to an immeasureable base of data from which you can pull aeons of history into the tips of your fingers.
<iframe width="0" height="0" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/D1UY7eDRXrs?autoplay=1" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You continue to wait.
Just when it seems like you are finally about to connect, you look over and see your dad just picking up the receiver on the land-line.
A slow motion "Noooooooo" erupts from your lips as your connection is terminated.
What do you want to do?
[[Look inside the rectangular box]].
[[Get up and leave the computer->Walk past the computer]].
[[Break the stupid machine->Break the computer]].After some fiddling with the strange latch on the front you are able to open the box and find inside of it a single, vaguely square-shaped piece of thin, almost floppy some might say, plastic. The square as a circle in center of it and there seems to be some kid of ultra-thin laminate disk at the center of the object.
Being something of a historian yourself, you think that you have heard of these as being some type of data containment and retrieval systems left over from the end of an earlier era. You seem to remember later iterations appearing in some type of reflective donut-shape but are able to discern a long, narrow gap in the front of the light-box that looks as if you could insert the object into the machine.
Do you?
[[Yes->yes5]].
[[No->no5]].You decide that computers aren't really your thing, and it's better to just leave one this old alone.
You wouldn't want to break anything.
A strange sense of irony hangs in the air at your choice and you feel as if some major event in your life has just passed you by without happening. You can't quite place the feeling, but you're certain that it is associated with "loss."
You move past the computer and find yourself at a dead end.
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
[[This wasn't the way it was supposed to be->Maze]].TECHNOLOGY IS THE DEVIL!
Rage fills you at this hedonistic pleasure box and masturbatory aid that has dare allowed itself to be set-up in the path that you would eventually be travelling!
The rock you have brought along seems to have been made for purposes just like this, and who are you to deny something the fulfillment of its purpose? With the strength of Ayn Raynd you hurl your rock at the brightly-lit screen that offends your senses.
Electric sparks shower the small hallway, many landing in your clothes and hair. These sparks seem to catch with an amazing, almost unnatural speed, as if you had been doused with something flammable.
Thinking back, you don't remember anything in particular that was poured on you or that you fell in, but you immediately catch fire all the same. As the skin sloughs off from your molten face you can clearly make out the name of the computer in the fading embers of your life.
"Deus ex Machina."
You are [[dead->Maze]].You insert the object (you're pretty sure it is was called a disk) into the applicable slot and watch.
A small circle appears in the center of the screen, spinning.
The screen goes black.
Something seems...familiar.
You get a very bad headache.
Words, some in white and some in blue, [[filter across the screen->Maze]].Why would you want to do that? Things are fine just how they are.
What do you want to do?
[[Log on to AOL]].
[[Break the computer]].
[[Walk past the computer]]. You quickly climb the very steep incline until it dead ends, noticing a large hole in ceiling directly above your head with a long shaft above it. When you look down there is a strange, much smaller hole, at your feet.
A wooden pole sits in the corner, propped at an angle as it seems to be too large to stand vertically in this room.
You feel a strange rumbling sensation, as if something is falling from somewhere very high up to somewhere very low down.
There is a button on the wall.
What do you do?
[[Run back down the slope and follow it down to the right->right5]].
[[Continue to stare up]].
[[Maneuver the end of the pole into the small hole so it fits vertically into the shaft]].
[[Push the button]].
You choose the right path, maybe because some random scroll somewhere told you to, and then again, maybe not. Maybe you did it because of that and weren't aware of it, or maybe your being aware of how awareness affects choice, chose not to be affected by awareness and thus affected choice.
It doesn't really matter why you did it, what matters is that you were decisive and went took the easy path downhill.

And for a moment, it is wonderful. Your tired calves, exhausted from pounding down on hard stone all day, rejoice at the break offered them. The ground even begins to vibrate, offering not only your legs but your entire body a relatively pleasant massage.
Considering how nice it would be to lie down for a moment, letting the massage really work the stress out of your lumbar region, you look back over your should to make sure no one would mind if you just laid down here on the floor.
You have just enough time to consider how your Indiana Jones skills have failed you before you are crushed under the weight of a massive, granite boulder, painting the hallway with a smattering of blood and gore in a style of artistic expression that would have done Jackson Pollock proud.
Sadly, like most artists, you will only be appreciate posmortem.

The light is inviting.
You do not resist the light.
Like a moth drawn to the flame, you enter into a world of blazing light.
Err... there are two torches, anyway.

You shrug and "OK," obviously not quite sharing in the Sphinx's over-the-top excitement but hey, that's ok.

She was the only Sphinx that ever existed. EVER. Now there are none.
How many humans are there? Huh. Seems a little unfair, yea?
Do you feel good about this?
[[Yes->yes8]].
[[No->no8]].Well good. Maybe we're actually getting somewhere.
[[Keep going forward|Continue down this passage.]]Well you should!
[[Keep going forward|Continue down this passage.]]Tired doesn't begin to describe you as your feeble arms hoist open the heavy door, the bright light that glares out at you is harsh and painful, searing eyes that have grown accustomed to the dark.
You stumble through the stone portal and take a deep breath of fresh air, closing your eyes as the smell of flowers and fresh grass wafts over your sense.
After rolling around for a bit you gather your things and prepare to head home, eager to lay your head down wherever that may be.
Which way do you go?

<font color="black">What...what just happened?
Where am I? I...I don't seem to be able to remember anything before the sign. The wooden one, the one that said "Maze" on it.
I think somone told me to come here? I think...I think it was one of my friends? They said something about going to a play...no, that's not right.
Going to play. Play a game.
They said this would be a game.
They said it would be fun.
It's so dark in here, I can barely see anything. All I have is this rock that I found out by the entrance.
I remember that, thank God.
Somehow I remember that.
I... I think I'm going to go look around again, see what I can figure out.

I. JUST. DIED.
My body was ripped to shreds. Pieces. Yet here I am, stitched together.
Whole...ish?
It feels like something is missing, like I am forgetting what I was supposed to remember.
Like I am gorgetting something about who I am.
Where did this diary even come from?
Who will read it?

Some dude named Milk wanted to come along. It was a literal carton of milk. It spoke to me. MILK ISN'T SUPPOSED TO TALK TO ANYONE!
I tried to say that Milk wasn't invited, becuase that was what Acid had said, but Milk wasn't having any of that. It started frothing and spilling out the top of it's box and I was like "Whoa! Chill out dude! Do you really want to go that bad?"
Apparently he wanted to go "a latte."
I left that punk-ass behind. Or at least...I thought I did. I must've not been as severe as I thought I was because dude decided to tag along anyway.
That's when shit got wierd.
It's like I was watching my body being controlled by someone else, y'know? I high-fived Milk and told him it didn't even matter if Acid didn't want him around, because I was invited and I can bring whoever I want, right?
Milk, being chill and all, completely understood.
I know I should've said no, but I said yes, and here's the kicker...
I don't know why. I have no clue why I brought the guy. Acid had been super cool up to that point and to be honest, Milk was pretty basic.
Well, shit went down hill the moment we stepped in the door.

I accidentally stepped on a switch while lost in thoughts of my life, existence...the many lives I seem to be able to remember living and the countless deaths that seem to always restart the cycle anew...thoughts I know to be careful of.
I tried to move--I've seen these before, y'know? It's not my firs time around the block, literally. I just figured I would step forward, but... but I couldn't.
I was being held there, trapped, unable to move as death approached me. I could see it all playing out as if everything were in slow motion, and I couldn't understand why my body wasn't responding. I can almost hear something, some strange tapping sound, if I listen close enough, but I am absolutely certain at this point that I can feel eyes on my back every time I go into another room of this blasted place.
I still have no idea how long I've been here, I just keep waking up in the same place, right outside the front of this stupid Maze. No matter what direction I try and go in, always Bamf! right back where I started.

Sadly, the Minotaur is entirely too real.
Raising a disturbingly clean shield, the Minotaur blocks your futile gesture effortlessly, combing aside your pitiful attempt on it's life. The Minotaur let's out a (link: "roar")[<span style="font-size: 2000%">ROAR</span>] and charges at you, shield held before it as a veritable wall of steel is suddenly bearing down upon you, crushing you beneath the weight of flesh and hooves and (link: "guilt")[not yours] and grinding you into the stone of the Maze now and forever more.

}You push yourself past the sad body of the decrepit creature, feeling nothing becuase you are a heartless monster.
On the other side of the bloody mound, you find a large door, slightly ajar, with a rank smell wafting from within.
You look back over your shoulder and realize that there is nothing for you there, no life left to turn back to. You have killed a creature that did nothing to harm you, a man who had already suffered incomprehensible pain and tragedy.
You push your way into the throne room and cannot revel in the riches and splendor that surround you, for the gold is old and covered with dust, and the silver is tarnished and gone to ruin. These are dead riches and forgotten treasures; wealth never to be spent.
You can feel the beckoning of the stone chair that sits at the very heart of the Maze, drawing you to your rightful place. You sit down with the weight of an ancient burden, and even as you do so, resting your arms on the stone arms of the giant chair, metal bands loop up from tiny slips in the rough surface and tighten quickly, strapping you into place.
Strange creatures form around you as a bright light is thrust into your face and the throne in which you sit is reclined fully so that you lay on your back.
You can hear the sound of something distinctly "saw-like" out in the corridor as the needle enters your neck. The liquid inside is cold as it enters your veins and the hypodermic steel is gone even before you remember it being there.
The last thing you see is the strange, bull-like head of the Minotaur being dragged over to the table where you lay. Then, the anesthesia takes hold...

You start to dust yourself off, but then notice that there's nothing *to* dust off.
Odd. There should at least have been something, right?
You check your scratches and bruises, your scrapes and burns, but can find nothing. Didn't you *just* see your blood on the rocks?
What's happening here?
You scan the smooth wall, which extends as far as the eye can see both to the left and to the right, but see no marks of...well...anything.
There is only the wall.
You turn around and shake your head, [[walking the other direction.]]Before long, you get to Jared's house.
Wait...who is Jared?
It takes a moment, but you remember that he was the friend you had promised to visit. He wanted to show you some new game or something. He said it would be fun.
Your feet know the way better than your mind because you don't seem able to remember how you got here at all. The trip over from...
From where?
[[Where were you just at again?]]
You try to remember, but memory fails you.
With a shake of your head, you brush the thought aside. You're here now, and that's what matters.
You knock on the door and it opens immediately, almost as if someone was expecting you.
"Hey!! You *finally* got here! What took so long?"
Recognition flees as you look at the person in front of you, yet your movements and embrace speak of old times shared in years long past. You have little time to consider these actions as your friend hustles you through a small apartment, guiding you by the elbow toward a state-of-the-art entertainment center complete with a 32 inch monitor and the silence of liquid cooled processing cores.
"Check her out! Finally got this B up and running. You gotta check out this new one, picked it up the other day from [[Nerve.]]"
Leather pads and the taught mesh of lumbar supports help ease you into a position of worship before the glowing god called L.E.D.
You hold out your hand for a controller but Jared shakes his head, waving your aimless grasping away.
"Nah, no controllers. It's just point and click. Text-based really, a bit retro."
Your eyebrows lift almost uncontrollably, evidently revealing your skepticism.
"Relax, just give it a chance, ok? Oldies but goodies, amiright? I haven't even tried going inside yet, so let's just see how it is."
The cd-rom drive slides open and you see your friend put a grey disc in before it disappears into the computer.
The screen blanks for a second, and then, in large white letters before you, [[you see...|Maze]](link: "011010100")[Stone] crumbles as you burst through the (link: "110101101")[wall] of the (link: "000000000")[Maze], sharp edges tearing at your flesh. Your arm erupts from the dark (link: "0100010101")[rock], followed quickly by your shoulder, your face, then the rest of you. Your blood stains the jagged (link: "01011101")[rocks], (link: "01011101")[rocks] that you try not to associate with teeth.
Even as you look back, hoping that nothing could have followed, you see the (link: "01011101")[rocks] close back up, folding into the smooth, featureless grey (link: "10101011")[stone] of the (link: "11111111")[Wall].
Who helped you?
[[Who was that?]]
↶↷If you see something in green or purple you can click on it.
Be careful, there is no way to go back.
Good Luck.
