VACANCY

Art and sound
The hotel itself is generated in code when the game loads: its walls, the patterns on its wallpaper and carpets, the notices and the writing on the walls, the cane wheelchair, and its music and most of its sounds, from the waltz on the gramophone to the telephone bell and the wind at the windows.
Its doors, hinges and latches, the knocking and the footsteps are recordings from Kenney's RPG Audio and Impact Sounds packs, shared under CC0. The children laughing are Laugh Group of Children by FunWithSound on Freesound, and the breathing Creepy_Breathing by georgisound, both also CC0. The telephone's bell, the clock, the heartbeat, the rope, the thunder and the wind are recordings by Joseph Sardin from BigSoundBank, shared under CC0: Old doorbell #12, Grandfather clock ticking, Heart Beat #4, Rope, Thunder #1, #3 and #4, and Whistling of the Wind #1.
Its wallpaper, floorboards, carpet and woodwork start from photo-scanned materials from Poly Haven, shared under CC0: Decrepit Wallpaper by Rob Tuytel, Wood Floor Worn by Dimitrios Savva, Dirty Carpet by Rohit Seervi and Dark Wood by Dario Barresi, Dimitrios Savva and Rico Cilliers.
The voice on the telephone is your browser's built-in speech synthesis.
Paintings
The paintings in the corridor are public domain works from the Cleveland Museum of Art's Open Access collection, shared under CC0. What becomes of them as the nights go on is the game's doing.
- Portrait of a Man, Samuel Lovett Waldo, 1832
- Portrait of a Woman, Jean-Jacques Henner, c. 1875–80
- Ruin by the Sea, Arnold Böcklin, 1881
- Leaving the Forest, Fontainebleau: Setting Sun, Théodore Rousseau, 1851
- Spring Flowers, Claude Monet, 1864
- A Storm Behind the Isle of Wight, Julius Caesar Ibbetson, c. 1790s
- A Family Meal, the Le Nain brothers, c. 1645–55

The furniture, lamps and clocks are models from Poly Haven, shared under CC0, fitted to the hotel in Blender: the lantern, chandelier, console, bed, commode, nightstand, armchair, sofa and painted chair by Kirill Sannikov, the grandfather clock by Yann Kervran and James Ray Cock, the mantel clock by Yann Kervran and Rico Cilliers, the oil lamp by Monsta3D, the plant, marble bust and cabinet by Rico Cilliers, the suitcases by Maximilian Schuster, the tea set by James Ray Cock, Rico Cilliers and Jurita Burger, the candleholders by Tina, the picture frame by Rob Tuytel and Rico Cilliers, the photograph frame by James Ray Cock, the statue by Benny Weimer, the rocking chair by Jorge Camacho and the encyclopedias by John Malcolm.
The gramophone, the wall telephone, the radiators and the gas sconces were modelled for the game in Blender.

The woman
She was made with MPFB, the MakeHuman character generator for Blender, from the MakeHuman community's CC0 assets: the system assets pack, and the robe Mindfront made for the Dress 01 pack, worn in black as a wrapper.
