You arrive at the front desk. You've clocked into ADP, you've answered the weekly question on the whiteboard, and you feel 100% ready to start the day! As you look around the library, you notice that all of the seats seem to be occupied. The constant "whir" coming from the printer is matched only by the steady, droning hum of students furiously scribbling notes, excitedly debating with one another, and quickly reviewing for exams. You get the distinct feeling that you're going to be providing a lot of reference help today.
*Huh, that's strange*, you think to yourself. *I hope there's not some kind of technical issue that happens just as a ton of patrons are in need of help.*
Just then, Theresa emerges from her office with a haggered look on her face and a charging cable still dangling from her iPad. She makes a beeline right for you at the front desk.
"Thank goodness you're here $fname!" she gasps. "It's the strangest thing, there's some kind of technical issue happening just as a ton of patrons are in need of help."
You silently curse your narratively-driven precognition as Theresa continues.
"We're a little pre-occupied back here with IT trying to get everything resolved" she says as her fingers fly across her iPad keyboard, "but I think there's a few patrons who're coming up to the desk right now. Would you mind helping them out to see what they need?"
"No problem!" you reply. "I'll be sure to fill out the Reference Stats Form after I'm done too."
"I knew you'd do well here." Theresa smiles, gives you a thumbs up, and then instantly spins back around to her office calling out "DID WE TRY TURNING THEM ALL OFF AND ON AGAIN?"

"ILL? What's that?" the student asks.
As you lead them to the library webpage for our interlibrary loan service, you explain that students can request articles we don't have from other libraries for free, and they will typically be delivered electronically to them within 3-5 business days. You let them practice filling out an ILL request for the an education article they wanted.
After pressing 'send', while they still look exhausted, you can tell that is now born of a greater sense of calm as opposed to stress.
"Thank you so much, you've been a HUGE help," the student says, stifiling another yawn. "Now I can finally get going on this project."
"Of course!" you say, feeling a bit tired despite yourself. "Is there anything else you need help with today?"
"Actually, there is one more thing if you have time," the students says, replacing their laptop in their bookbag with their iPad. They place the device on the front desk and power it on. After the student logs on and attempts to open a note-taking application, the device suddenly powers off.
"For the past week or so it's been doing that," they explain, "I turn it on, use it for a few seconds, and it shuts off. Is there anything you can do to help?"

"Aspirations?" the student asks. "What do you mean 'aspirations'?"
"Like 'Wow we wish we had these!' You know, #goals," you say as you look slightly upward with a glint of hope in your eye.
The student obvisouly isn't quite sure how to respond to that statement, so they pack their things and walk to an open desk in the library looking more despondant than before.
While you may have noted your aspirations for the library, you remember that there is actually a way for students to get access to these articles.
Unfortunately, now that the student has walked away, you are no feeling a sense of #goals, but rather a sense of #iwishicouldhavehelpedmore.

"Really? I mean I thought I heard a classmate say there was something the library offered to get articles even if they didn't have them, but I guess I was mistaken. Thanks," says the student as they slowly gather their belongings and leave.
You suddenly realize that the answer the IT staff would give the student is "Come to the library, because they can help you out," because that's the truth. Where you once felt good in helping out a student, you now feel a bit bad that you sent them on a mini-wild goose chase.

[''You explain that while the library can handle some technical issues, for internal problems with your devices, the best bet for the student is to check with IT, or the Apple Corps representatives when they're available at the front desk for Apple products.
"Sounds good! I know they're back there helping you all right now, but how would I get my request in to them in the meantime?" the student asks.
You show them how to fill out an online IT request ticket, and you provide them a campus map with IT's location highlighted in case they want to visit in person.
The student leans back, opens their mouth, and yawns for what seems like an eternity. When they finish, they smile, look at you, give you a grateful nod, and walk away from the desk, hopefully to take a quick nap.
As they leave, you feel ever more confident in your ability to help patrons with their reference questions.

You realize a bit too late there may be a department on campus that is better equiped to handle tech problems of this nature than yourself.

Huh, that's strange, you think to yourself. I hope there's not some kind of technical issue that happens just as a ton of patrons are in need of help.
Just then, Theresa emerges from her office with a haggered look on her face and a charging cable still dangling from her iPad. She makes a beeline right for you at the front desk.
"Thank goodness you're here !" she gasps.
You spin around in your chair, and see three patrons approach the front desk at the same time. You know you'll have to help all of the patrons for the time being, so you take a deep breath and say
