Story 1

Gaia had chosen to stay in the village of her birth, Alden, at least for now. Later that day, friends from her childhood: Baren, the apprentice smith, brown haired and brown eyed, Vera, daughter of the town's crier, shoulder-length black hair and green eyes, and Finan, the stablehand had chosen to go to the tavern and invited her to join them. Choosing to join them, Gaia changed her clothes before they left. They arrived at the unusually crowded tavern. On a normal night there would be at most maybe 10 people inside but earlier that evening a band of mercenaries had arrived. The moment Gaia's group entered whistles could be heard, from not only the usual crowd but from the mercenaries as well. Vera was a beauty but even she could barely hold a candle beside Gaia. One of the mercenaries, a large, well-built man, with short brown hair and scars of battle covered his face and body, challenged Gaia to armwrestle him, offering her a drink if she beat him but wanted a peck on the cheek if she lost. Gaia spent a couple hours trying to sleep but to no avail. After changing into a more appropriate outfit she heads to find her friends at the tavern. [[Go to the Tavern Late]]

Accepting the challenge Baren and Vera cheered for her while Finan laughed and called her a fool. Gaia gave a valiant effort but alas a veteran's strength was too much for her as he forced her hand against the table. As was agreed she kissed the man on his cheek. To her surprise he bought her an ale anyway. "I never expected you to accept, I'm Harald of the Ironwood Company" the man said. "I'm Gaia, I help in the fields", she replied. "Well Gaia, how about an ale, on me?". "But I lost" "I don't mind, was gonna offer you one regardless". [[Accept the Drink]] [[Decline the drink]]

Gaia refused his challenge. The mercenary was disappointed but left it at that and went back to his group. Baren, Vera and Finan had already gotten their drinks and claimed the only spare table at the back [[Go to the table]]

Gaia chose to accept the drink as a show of good faith. They headed towards the barstand. After paying for her drink, Harald rejoined his men at their table, and Gaia headed for her friends who had already gotten their drinks and had claimed the only empty table left in the bar. Feeling like if she had accepted she would be indebted to the man Gaia chose to decline Harald's drink, instead opting to pay it herself. His pride slightly hurt he rejoined his band of men. Gaia now with ale in her hand went to rejoin her friends who had headed off before her to claim the last table. [[Head to the table]]

Arriving at the table she could saw an unfamiliar face at the table with her friends. A woman, who looked to be in her early 20's, with black shoulder-length hair with a pair of braids on either side and a scar covering one of her silver eyes, was sat beside Vera. She had a slender but quite muscular figure, her eyes darted over Gaia as she looked her over. "...beautiful..." she muttered quietly as if in a trance, before speaking up and introducing herself, "Hi, I'm Leila, you?". [["I'm Gaia" -> I'm Gaia Early Decline]]

The moment Gaia entered drunken whistles could be heard, from not only the usual crowd but from the mercenaries as well. One of the mercenaries, a large, well-built man, with short brown hair and scars of battle covered his face and body, challenged Gaia to armwrestle him, offering her a drink if she beat him but wanted a peck on the cheek if she lost. Putting your elbows to the table a small crowd forms around you. Gaia notices Baren and Finan had came over to see what was happening while Vera spoke to a woman on a table in the back corner. Gaia gave a valiant effort but alas a veteran's strength was too much for her as he pushed her hand against the table. As was agreed she pecked the man on his cheek. To her surprise he gave her an ale anyway. "Not bad, I never expected you to accept, I'm Harald of the Ironwood Company" the man said. "I'm Gaia, I help in the fields", she replied. "Well Gaia, how about an ale, on me?". "But I lost" "I don't mind, was gonna offer you one regardless". After giving you a wooden flagon of ale he rejoins his group. Finan and Baren head towards Gaia before greeting her. "Nice try" Baren chimed "Although I thought you weren't coming tonight". "I just couldn't sleep, so... here I am" Gaia responded. "Fair enough, come join us Vera is over there" [[Join them]]

Gaia declined his challenge and had a look around to see where Finan, Baren and Vera were. She saw them sitting at a table in the back of the tavern. With them was a woman who's back was turned away from Gaia, she could only see that she had a slender figure and black shoulder-length hair with a pair of braids on either side. Before joining them Gaia went to the barkeep for a tankard of ale. [[Join them at the table]]

Arriving at the table Gaia gets a clear look at the woman Vera was with, she looked to be in her early 20's and had a pair of silver eyes, one with a scar covering it, she also had a slender but muscular figure. Her eyes darted over Gaia as she looked her over. "...beautiful..." she muttered quietly as if in a trance, before speaking up and introducing herself, "Hi, I'm Leila, you?". Gaia's Journey This is the story all about how the life of a humble peasant was flip-turned upside down. This is a game in which you control Gaia and will decide what she does over the course of this game. There are a number of routes/options which lead to different outcomes. "That was a nice try" Leila exclaimed, "You're stronger than you look". "Not strong enough though", Gaia responded, defeated. "You certainly gave it a good try, to be fair he is a veteran soldier, even I've only managed to beat him once or twice". "You've challenged him before?". "Yeah, far more than I'd care to admit, so how'd you get strong enough to give him a challenge?". "I've worked the farm since I was young". "Really, never would've guessed, you don't look the type". Instantly regretting her decision to drink so much the night before, Gaia awoke to a splitting headache. As much as she wanted to stay in bed to recover, she didn't have the opportunity for she had to clean out the chicken coop. After getting out of bed she headed downstairs where she saw her father eating an apple. "How's your head?" her father asked. "Its not great" responded Gaia. "Well there is porridge over there if you can eat". "I'll be fine, and thank you". After finishing eating she headed out to clean the chicken coop and harvest their eggs. It was past midday by the time she had finished. [[Look for Leila -> Look for Leila Decline]]

Gaia had chosen to look for Leila, so that she could thank her for taking care of her last night. she found her in the village square sparring with Harald with the rest of her band sparring amonst themselves. Rather than interrupt the sparring, Gaia chose to sit at one of the benches lining the square and wait for them to finish. A few minutes later Leila ended up victorious managing to disarm Harald with a downward strike. Noticing Gaia, they head towards her. [[Say Hello -> Say Hello Accept]]

Gaia had chosen to look for Leila, so that she could thank her for taking care of her last night. she found her in the village square sparring with with the mercenary who had challenged her to an armwrestle the prior night with the rest of her band sparring amonst themselves. "So you're the rumoured town's beauty" Leila said teasing Gaia. "I wouldn't call myself that" Gaia denied, "She's certainly the towns eye candy" Vera chimed in. "Not true" Gaia replied. This went on for another five minutes with Vera and Gaia agreeing to disagree. "Leila, what's it like travelling and fighting as a mercenary? I've been thinking of leaving here for a while". Gaia asked Leila. "Its scary at times, constantly moving from place to place to fight for coin but the benefit of seeing the sights and not really worrying about money is quite good, especially since there is always a war going on. There is the obvious downside of seeing your comrades dying but I'm quite lucky as atleast with the Ironwood Company, I haven't saw as many deaths than those in the other mercenary bands we've worked with", Leila proclaimed, "It was a lot harder at first but its gotten easier, I guess". They kept talking and drinking for a few hours after that, ending in Gaia being helped to her home by Leila and Vera. [[The Next Day -> The Next Day Decline]]

A few days later... "So you're leaving tomorrow?" asked Gaia. "Yeah, the job is done so we need to move on, would you like to join us? I know you've been wanting to get out and see the world", replied Leila. [[Join the Mercenaries]] [[Stay]]

"I'd love to" Gaia responded. "Then meet us by the village square tomorrow and we'll be leaving" Leila said. "I'm glad you're coming with us". Having decided to join them, and with only a day to prepare, Gaia was in a rush to get her business in order before leaving. She had to find someone to help her father's farm in her absence. Luckily this took only a few hours as Vera, after finding out about her decision offered to help him, since she'd been doing various odd jobs around the village for quite some time now and wanted a more stable income. Gaia gathered up her small savings and bought a blade from the town's blacksmith, it was a plain sword but well-made and built to last. [[That night -> Leaving with the mercenaries]]

"Sorry I just don't feel like leaving the village just yet". "Are you sure" "Yeah, sorry, I'd love to join you but I have some things left to do here before I go out into the world". The next day and the mercenaries had started to head out Leila had already headed off with them but before she exited she ran back and kissed Gaia. "Well until we next meet, I wish you the best", she breathlessly exclaimed before sprinting to catch up. Gaia just stood there blushing and confused. [[Some time later]]

After recovering from the unexpected kiss Gaia headed to the tavern, there she met Baren, Vera and Finan. Vera noticed that Gaia wasn't acting like her usual self and asked her why. "You're acting a bit strange, you know?" she questioned. "Well, um... Leila kissed me before she left" Gaia dreamily proclaimed. "Did you kiss her back?" "...yes". "Do you like her". "I don't know, probably". "Are you going to follow her". [["Yes"]] [["No"]] [["I don't know"]]

Finally Gaia was ready to leave the village, to make her own way in the world. And so, having prepared everything she felt she needed to take with her she left. Her father, anxious but proud, wished her well. Vera cried as she hugged her, Baren just smiled and Finan gave her a quick hug then waved as Gaia began to walk away. Gaia waved back at them but didn't wave for too long for fear she'd end up in tears. [[A couple hours later -> wolves lone route]]

Gaia was in her room rummaging through her belongings to decide on what to take with her. She had already prepared a few days worth of rations, a small amount of Gil, enough to pay for a room and meals for a week and the blade she had bought from the blacksmith. There wasn't much room left in her pack but she managed to fit a couple of sets of clothing. Having prepared as best as she thought she could, she went to have a quick snack before getting into bed. It took her quite some time to sleep, she was anxious, scared and excited which made it hard to sleep. Waking up she quickly got dressed in a reinforced lether jerkin and pants. She was ecstatic but also terrified, for the day was finally here, the day she'd finally go on a journey. [[Leaving the village]]

"I mean your beauty is far above that of a simple farmhand" Leila said. "I didn't choose the job, just ended up helping my father" responded Gaia " so what's your story?". "Me? I'm part of the Ironwood Company, been a merc most of my life". "How'd that happen". "I wanted to travel and found out I had a knack for fighting. The company saved my life one day so I joined them, anyway enough about me". [[Ask about travelling -> Whats it like travelling]]

"What's it like travelling so often? I've always wanted to leave but never really had the chance" asked Gaia. "It wasn't easy at first but you get used to it and there are soo many sight's I wouldn't have otherwise seen. It's great, although being a mercenary is obviously dangerous" replied Leila. They kept talking and drinking for a few hours after that, ending in Gaia being helped to her home by Leila and Vera. [[The Next Day -> The Next Day Accept]]

"How are you doing after last night?" Leila asked. "I had a bad headache, but it feels alright now". Gaia replied "How about you both?". "We're fine, I think we're just used to drinking and we didn't have as much to drink as you did". "That's good, also I was wondering could you teach me?.." "Teach you what?" "How to defend myself properly. I've fought off wolves before to protect the farm, but if I'm ever gonna leave this place it'd be a death sentence without even some basic training". "Fair, enough, I can show you the basics while we're here". [[Sword Training begins -> Sword Training Accept]]

They began by showing Gaia a basic stance that had her holding a longsword two handed above her head, with her right foot behind her. After that Leila told Gaia to just swing her sword downwards again and again until she could swing no more, she claimed this was to build her strength. She endured it all despite almost giving up many times for her body ached. A few days later and Leila began teaching Gaia more seriously having saw her resolve to learn, this all began with her slowly showing her how to parry. She gradually swung faster and with more force until Gaia could comfortably parry her blows. The training continued and Gaia became competent at swordfighting. "Then go after her we'll be here for when you come back" stated Vera. "Yeah go after her before you lose her since she'd clearly into you" Finan said. "We'll miss you" announced Baren. "I'll come back occasionally to see you guys" Gaia As a farewell party they drank the night away and spoke about their memories from when they were younger. "Do you want to see her again?" asked Vera. "Yeah" murmured Gaia. "The go after her". "But I don't want to leave just yet". "The longer you wait, the harder it will be to find her again". "I know, but I'm scared, what if she rejects me". "Well the longer you wait the higher the chance she'll meet someone else and you don't want that to happen, now do you". "B-but...". "Just go after her already". "Fine..." As a farewell party they drank the night away and spoke about their memories from when they were younger. [[A few days later... -> Preparing to leave]]

Having decided she wanted to see Leila again, Gaia knew what she had to do, she had to prepare her things so that she can try to trace Leila's path and meet her again. This however took longer than she'd expected as she had to find someone to help her father's farm in her absence. Luckily this took only a few days as Vera offered to help him, since she'd been doing various odd jobs around the village for quite some time now and wanted a more stable income. Gaia also had to earn a little extra money before leaving because while she had a small amount saved up it wasn't quite enough for her to feel comfortable and she didn't want to ask for help from her father. It was the 1st of April. Gaia is a woman of 19 years, graced with a rare beauty she had caught the eye of the many who saw her but alas none had managed to catch even a second glance from her. She had long, straight hair the colour of fire, skin as pale as snow, eyes of azure and an athletic physique. It was a warm day and she was lost in thought as to what she wanted to do in her life. As of now she had spent many a day helping to tend her fathers fields but was longing more and more to explore. She wanted to leave but felt that now wasn't the right time. "I never got the chance to introduce my self last night, I'm Harald, you?" the man announced. "I'm Gaia, nice to meet you", she responded. "How are you doing after last night?" Leila asked. It was the first time that Gaia had left the village and she was excited about what new animals and plants she would see. She could hear the occasional wolf howl but none dared to approach such a large group. "Be careful when you go off to do your business, don't go too far or they will target you" Harald warned her "we've lost too many people like that, wouldn't want to lose you too, now would we". "And keep an eye out for bandits" chimed in Leila. [["Bandits?" ->Ask about bandits]]

It was the first time that Gaia had left the village and she was excited about what new animals and plants she would see. Gaia heard some howling behind her and soon she heard snarls surrounding her. Soon after the first of the beasts could be seen, it was a large wolf. [[Draw sword and fight -> wolves fight]] [[Run -> wolves run]]

Realising that she had no choice to fight Gaia drew her blade just in time to slice at the first wolf which had already gotten in close. Her blade sliced deep into the side of the black beast, at least a meter tall. It fell as quickly as it appeared. During that time, another had gotten close behind her and managed to sink its teeth into her leather jerkin, barely poking through and lightly piercing her skin. Gaia yelped out in surprise and quickly pierced the wolf with her blade. Seeing two of their packmembers being slain the wolves backed away, but Gaia could hear them near. She ripped a sleeve from one of her spare shirts and bandaged her light wound before continuiing. Gaia didn't let her guard down again. [[The next day... -> bandits alone]]

Gaia tries to run away from the wolves but its too late they have already surrounded her preventing Gaia from running away. She has no choice but to fight. [[Draw blade -> wolves fight]]

Gaia was awoken when she heard voices nearby. "I saw her around here" a gruff man's voice said. "Lies, no-one who would go through here knowing this is our territory" a woman replied. "Maybe she doesn't know, she was definitely somewhere around here". "Keep looking then, if we find her and she's as you claim we'll be able to sell for a high price or maybe get a promotion from the boss". Hearing that Gaia realised she had stepped into a bandits territory and that she was in grave danger. [[Run]] [[Fight]]

Gaia chose to try and run away. She rushed to pack and gather her things. This however wasn't quiet and the bandits heard her. THUD Before she could react a hard object smacked into her temple. She heard the woman say "Hehehe easy" before she fell unconcious. [[Waking up -> Waking up Run]]

Gaia took her sword from its sheath and prepared to ambush them if they got close to her. She quietly climbed a tree but didn't risk moving her things for fear of them hearing. The bandits approached and Gaia noticed the man was scrawny and had a scar across his right cheek and burn marks on his left arm, he wore a fur vest and leather pants. The man carried a small axe. The woman had short brown hair and had clear skin. She had freckles around her nose and wore a brown leather chest piece and a fur skirt. She carried a short sword and a round wooden shield. They had noticed her pack and headed began walking towards her. They were now beneath Gaia. [[Attack -> attack bandits alone]]

Waking up to a stinging pain in her head Gaia found herself in what looked like a prison. The guard noticing that Gaia had awoken called the woman who had caught her over. "So you're finally awake" she stated from behind the bars. "Where am I?!" shouted Gaia in reply. "You're in our camp, can't leave a valuable asset like you alone out there now can we". [["Let me go!"]]

Surprings them Gaia Jumped down from the tree her blade cut deeply into the mans arm and the wound bled profusely. He dropped his axe and collapsed to the ground in pain. The woman, now enraged swung at Gaia and their blades clashed, they fought for a few minutes but Gaia's grip loosened and her sword was flung away from her. Having been disarmed she had 2 choices, surrender and hope they don't kill her or to run. [[Surrender]] [[Run -> Run after attack]]

Gaia chose to surrender as she now felt even if she ran she wouldn't get far. She had concede to her fate and was scared for what was now in store for her having badly injured one of the bandits. The woman bound Gaia's hands before bandaging the mans arms. They took her back to their camp, a small compound surrounded by a wooden pallisade. There they knocked her unconscious with a club to the head. [[Wake Up->Waking up Surrender]]

She chose to run and managed to grab her pack and sword before doing so. She tripped and fell. Hitting her head on a rock she collapse unconscious. [[Wake up -> Waking Up Fight]]

"Bandits?" Gaia questioned. "Yeah, there is a group of bandits active here, we're tasked with eliminating them" Leila responded "but first we need to finf them, after that it shouldn't take too long to get rid of them". "You sound a little overconfident, don't you think". "Maybe, but we've dealt with these kinds of dregs before, it'll be the same as usual". [[Setting up camp for the night -> camping night one (merc route)]]

Shouting could be heard outside, that gradually transitioned into the sounds of blades clashing as the fighting began. Screams of pain echoed into the prison. The battle outside lasted over half an hour. A man entered the prison, Gaia recognised him from the tavern. "No need to be afraid, I'm Damian from the Ironwood Company we're here to free you". The guard had left the key to the prison on the table. He took the key and unlocked cage before leading the prisoners out. Blood and bodies were strewn around the courtyard. Gaia noticed that the mercenaries had managed to capture some of the bandits including the woman who had caught her. [[Look around -> Look Around Fight]]

"Leila get over here!" shouted what Gaia recognised as Harald's voice "Their prisoners are coming out!". "Yes sir!" Leila responded. Gaia looked in the direction of Leila's voice and upon seeing Leila, her eyes began to pour. She ran to her and threw her arms around her. "Wha- Who?!" shouted Leila in surprise. "I missed you Leila" Gaia tearfully proclaimed. "Wait why are you here?" "I left Alden to come find you and they saw me, so I ran but fell and woke up here. They said they were going to sell me!" "Its okay now, you found me, I'm here. Wait why is your head covered in blood?" [["I hit a rock when I fell" ->Hit a rock run away ]]

"Not gonna happen, we're gonna sell you, women like you are worth a lot you know, shame about what happened to you face though". "Wait what happened..." Gaia touched her forehead and realised that she had been bleeding from hitting her head. A man suddenly starts shouting. "We're under attack!". Hearing that the woman rushed out of the room. Later that night after having a few hours of sleep, Leila woke Gaia up. "Wake up, its our turn to keep watch." There were a number of fires around the edge of the camp and they were assigned to one facing the west of their camp. It was an uneventful night. [[The next morning->Next Morning (Merc)]]

They begun setting up tents in perparation for the night. It was almost dark by the time they'd finished and so they were in a rush to quickly get a fires up for light, meals and warmth. Feeding a group of around 40 wasn't easy but luckily for them there were plenty of animals to hunt. For their meal Gaia and Leila had a simple rabbit and vegetable stew that went down like a treat. After eating, they both went to sleep early as it would their turn to take watch. [[That night...]]

"I think I hit a rock when I fell, I don't remember" said Gaia. "I'm glad you're okay, Lets get you cleaned up and that cut bandaged" responded Leila. Leila prepared a fire and heated some water so she could clean the blood for Gaia's wound [[Later... -> wound cleaned fight]]

Having had a calm and uneventful night they packed up their things and prepared to head into the forest. They were just waiting for the scouts to return with news of where the bandits camp was located. This did not take long as just before noon they arrived. The bandits camp turned out to be rather close, taking about an hour to reach from where they had camped. Arriving at the bandits camp they noticed it was surrounded by a wooden pallisade. Immediately they began to pepper the camp with arrows, trying to get rid of as many as possible before they entered. [[Push into the camp]]

Pushing into the camp, Gaia was beside Leila. They were in the middle of the attacking mercenaries who had already forced the bandits back though the well defended entryway. Looking around Gaia saw that a lot of bandits had been killed in the inital rain of arrows. A small group of bandits rushed toward them but were quickly cut down. The battle drew to a fast close. "Gaia, Leila, we've found prisoners. Free them and make sure they're okay." ordered Harald. [[Go to the prisoners]]

Heeding the orders they headed to the building that Harald had pointed to. Inside was a dead bandit and behind him on a wooden table was what Gaia assumed were the keys to the jail. Half of the room was barred off, in the center of those bars was a door with a padlock keeping it shut. Gaia quickly grabbed the keys from the table and tried each of the keys in the lock. They lead the prisoners outside, before heading over to help tend to the injured. Seven members had lost their lives in the attack and a further 15 were injured and needed to be tended too. It was only now did they realise that Leila had a small cut on her arm. Gaia quickly cleaned the cut with water before bandaging the wound. [[After cleaning her wound... ->Finished]]

Having cleaned and bandaged hLeila's wound Gaia helped to do the same to the injuries of the other mercenaries and the prisoners they had released. That night Gaia and Leila were sat together, they had chosen to camp outside of the compound, and would set off in the morning. They had been drinking since the evening in celebration of their victory, and mourning for the lives they had lost. Leila drunkenly confessed to and kissed Gaia, who had kissed her back.
