god's head is laying in the bushes at the feet of her old stone feet
[img[images/head.png]]
it seems all ignore her, as she ignored us in our hour of need
although she isn’t deserving I talk to her anyway
I approach the once-mighty head and ask
“So is this all that’s left for you?
laying, shattered and broken where you once stood with glory, decomposing
are you waiting for something?
will you rise again or is this your eternity?”
and gods head barely glanced to my direction and said
“oh, a human?
I almost thought your kind is gone by now”
ignoring all I asked, she continued
“none of you visit anymore and I cannot look at you from far and above
like I used to do before I was left lying in the dirt”
she blames the humans, this I know,
for breaking her and leaving her damaged and alone
“she deserves this”
my grandmother always says
“and even then a life long of shuttered loneliness
is not enough to punish her for all she has done”
[[<⏁>]]
I am a young resident of a
[[a small beach town]]
[[a village hiding in the forest]]
[[a city inside the kingdom walls]]the town might be small but it’s my home
the land is sand and water,
the air is always salty
there are plentiful of boats at the docks swaying from side to side
I used to be happy, we all were
food was always plentiful, our houses stood steady
there were people from newborns to elders going around smiling in the streets
and at the edge of town, where the beach almost ended, stood a giant stone statue surrounded by well kept bushes
the top of it was so high you could barely see its face
and on certain days the face would disappear behind the clouds
she was our god
we would give her gifts consisted of crafted decorations,
precious stones and the tastiest of dishes
and she took them for herself, and watch us from above
we thought she was watching over us, protecting us
but now we all know she was looking down on us
unfortunately, we found it out too late
[[when the food supplies run thin|f1]]
[[when the sea started rising]]
[[when the sandstorms started]]
the village might be small but it’s my home
the land is mud and grass,
the air always smells of rain
there are plentiful of wood catwalks attached from the tree tops
expanding the village upwards
I used to be happy, we all were
food was always plentiful, our houses stood steady
there were people from newborns to elders going around smiling between the trees
and at the center of town, where all roads lead, stood a giant stone statue surrounded by well kept bushes
the top of it was so high you could barely see its face
and on certain days the face would disappear behind the clouds
she was our god
we would give her gifts consisted of crafted decorations,
precious stones and the tastiest of dishes
and she took them for herself, and watch us from above
we thought she was watching over us, protecting us
but now we all know she was looking down on us
unfortunately, we found it out too late
[[when the food supplies run thin|f2]]
[[when the trees started dying]]
[[when the heavy rain wouldn't stop]]the city might be huge and my community small but it’s my home
the land is stone and dirt,
the air always smells of spices from the large amount of diffrent stalls in the merchant area
I used to be happy, we all were
food was always plentiful, our houses stood steady
there were people from newborns to elders going around smiling in the streets
and at the entrance of the town, by the giant iron gates, stood a giant stone statue surrounded by well kept bushes
the top of it was so high you could barely see its face
and on certain days the face would disappear behind the clouds
she was our god
we would give her gifts consisted of crafted decorations,
precious stones and the tastiest of dishes
and she took them for herself, and watch us from above
we thought she was watching over us, protecting us
but now we all know she was looking down on us
unfortunately, we found it out too late
[[when the food supplies run thin|f3]]
[[when the earth opened]]
[[when the rain stoped raining]]the sun burned hotter with each day
and the water rose by the inch
the huts by the shore got swept into the sea
and the docks disappeared beneath the waves
we were [[scared|s1]]
the sand covered each and every house
even seeing and breathing became an unbarable task
the strong winds swept people off their feet
it felt as if we were getting buried alive
we were [[scared|s2]]so we approached our god and asked
“Please, oh mighty one standing steadily high
please help your loyal worshipers in our hour of need
save us from this cruel circumstances we find ourselves in”
and god barely graces in our direction
and as if stood still as if nothing was said
so the people repeated
“please our dear dear god,
help us
we might not survive long without your help”
and god stood quietly still
no prayers, pleas, gifts, nor sacrifices pressured god to move or answer
as the shoreline and the town borders gets indistinct from one another
and fear turned to [[anger|a1]]
water replaced our air
pleading turn to screams
gifts to hard work tools
they struck down god
with hammers and pickaxes and hoes
swords and chisels and even big sticks
any tool that might hurt the stone god
and god stood still
and god broke down
and god lay there [[shattered|sh1]]the people of my town left,
fled to a place where the water is the source of life
instead of being the end of it
and they left god behind
but I came back, now in front of her
so I could
[[finish what my people started]]
[[apologize for what my people did]]
[[say goodbye one last time and never think of her again]]
[[ask “why?”]]
it is futile to try to get any thing out of her
she will always ignore our pain, our questions, our pleas
she will always see herself as beyond our human worries
her fate consists of laying here until something changes
maybe someone new will find her
maybe the forces of nature will move her
at least her fate would be it if I didn't decide otherwise
I took tools with me,
not unlike the ones my people used when shattering her the first time
I swang the tool above my head and brought it [[down]]she never did help us
nor listen to us
but she never said she would
she saw our blind worship just as that
as us worshiping her greatness
the tall stone statue
so high and mighty its top would disappear in cloudy days
so strong and sturdy even when people tried to break her
part of her lived on
in front of me is what is left of her
and I must wonder "is she to blame?"
and I must answer "no"
and I must tell her [["sorry"]][["goodbye"]]I ask "why?"
after all we did for her
all the worship, gifts, love and devotion
she refused to listen to us
she refused to help us
she left us to die and suffer under the worlds wrath
even when we did nothing to anger it
why, why, why
and as her characteristic dictates
she continues to [[ignore]]the rot below the bark started showinga
and the catways at the tree tops collaped day by day
all were wary of the world around us
as the same things that once were our walls threaten to crash us
we were [[scared|s5]]
the water covered each and every house
even seeing through the pour became an unbarable task
the rain mixed with the ground and every step was in slippery mud
it felt as if we were getting drowned alive
we were [[scared|s6]]the once large herds of crabs, fish, and sea birds dwindled
the crops went dry
the people were famished
each of us a skeleton with only skin on their bones
we were [[scared|s3]]the once large herds of birds and mammals dwindled
the crops went dry

the walls of the kingdom came crashing down

as people, crops, and plants became dry as bones

the diffrent paths and endings aren't that diffrent if i'm being honest
this is a short "game" (?) which was made for the "I can't write but I wanna make a story" jam
the theme was lost, which I interpeted into "losing faith" due to a random doodle in my notebook
kinda really didn't this whole thing by the halfway point but felt like I had to finish it for the sake of finishing.
this is technically my first twine game so yeah
felt like a bunch of pretentious writing :/ hope the next one is better
anyway I mostly make art instead of writing, if you wanna see more of that try finding me on instagram @the_finel_count_dan or on twitter @FinelCountDan

as if she would listen
whether she did or didn't
I'm not sure it would matter
I hope she did
I hope she knows I don't blame her for what happened to my people
I hope she forgive our human actions
I [[leave]]I say
she doesn't say it back
I wonder if she ever even heard me
but I will never know the truth
the thought of her gave me great pain
she gave my people great pain
they decided to either hate her or forget her
but hate is an exhausting emotion
you have to always add fuel to the fire for it to carry on
and I've grown tired
whether I forgave her doesn't matter
as I [[forget her|end]] anywayI leave hoping the way we left her won't cause her farther suffering
hoping none will find her and repeat our mistakes
maybe she'll find happiness in her state, mayve she'll get better
but I wouldn't be here to [[know|end]]ignores my qustions
ignores my presense
she lays there
is the bushes naer her feet
looking away
as if I don't exist
sometimes I wonder if I exist in her eyes
or if were all to her like ants are to humans
this trip was futile
the conclusion remains the same
I will never get an answer
so I [[leave|end]]
