A trip down to the lobby and back with a little socializing is exactly what you need to reset your focus for your first meeting with the boss. Whether or not you correctly interpretted //coffee// and whether or not you're interested and in what kind of relationship is yet to be determined. Coffee isn't a commitment, it's indulging a curiousity. On the way down, Ken tells you to call him ''Ken''. He jokes about call-outs and call-ins, though it's clear he's chaffing against being chronically disliked by the many superheroes he's had to explain microaggressions and unconscious bias to. You're curious, but think it would be impolite to ask in what way he's LGBT+, so you don't ask. Ken orders a coffee and you don't. You explain you've got a meeting shortly. Conversation flows easily with Ken. You laugh. He laughs. You two brainstorm what the best superhero lineup would be in different apocalyptic scenarios. It's once in a blue moon that socializing comes this easily to you, without false starts and a strange crunch in the gears and worrying you've made a mess of the conversation every five small-talk-piercing minutes. The boss' office is easy to find. It's the double mahogony doors embedded at the back of the lobby. The deep solid red rages importance against the freeflowing natural light of the rest of the first floor. You knock and the doors swing open soundlessly. The absence of even the slightest creak unnerves you. "Wonderful timing," booms a tall white man as he crosses from one room into another. You shake off your shock and follow him. "I'd like you to meet the newest member of the Big 12." A young woman across the boardroom table gives a ten degree bow. Her braids fall in front of her shoulders. She doesn't look a day over the twenty-five year age minimum to be a contracted superhero. "I'm ''Niimi''," she says. "Welcome," you say. "Is it Neemay?" "The last sound is a short i like in sit." "Thanks," you say. "What's your ability?" "Body control," interjects Alastair. "Young N here can force another person's body to move as she moves." "It's not so much forcing as -" "She doesn't even need direct eye contact. We think she'll be brilliant in hostage situations." Alastairs phone buzzes. "I have to be going. I trust you to get her hero name sorted out. And send her out on a high profile mission today. I want her takeover for Azar the Great to have a positive angle on the news tonight." Alastair carries the chaos out of the room with him as he leaves. You breathe a sigh of relief. Niimi doesn't relax. "What do you want your hero name to be?" you ask. "Well I //want// my hero name to be Niimi, but PR said that'd confuse people and I should be a team player and pick a more literal name like the rest of the Big 12." She scrunches up her face. "They suggested ''Puppetteer''." You wince. Puppetteer feels like a terrible choice for a young woman.
