The L train shutdown will impact hundreds of thousands of riders who take the train between Manhattan and Brooklyn every day. Starting in January 2019, The L train tunnel, known as the Canarsie Tube will be shut down to repair damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. During this time, 225,000 passengers will need an alternative way to get to and from Manhattan-Brooklyn. You have been put in charge of organizing the interim transportation. The L train is one of the most congested subway lines in the city. There are two major plans offered on how to repair the tunnel. Which do you choose? Plan A first involves closing one track at a time while Plan B is to close service completely. [[Plan A]] will take around 3 years to make repairs. The cost of repairing the tunnel is estimated at 800 million dollars. The federal government is expected to pay a large portion of it. [[Spring 2016]]

People are getting super hype about bicycles since the lanes were expanded! Knock it up to an increasing proliferation of bipedal vehicles, trends towards environmentally friendly modes of transport, and whatever the reason people seem to really like their bikes! This trend towards environmentally friendly modes of transport is great, but it also has led to a lot more bikes on the subways (and thus less space for riders). There have been proposals made to designate 14th Street a no car zone during the repairs. Some, like Senator Hoylman, thinks it should remain that way even after the maintenance. We can test this out on a smaller scale, in other more auxillary areas. Space that has been opened up for the public use is having a positive effect on the community, promoting business by having public space for people to chill. The waterline is becoming more and more filled with condos being built left and right. Many whose view of the water and the Manhattan skyline are being blocked by these mega towers are more than a bit upset. It also doesn't help that while the amount of living space is being jacked upwards, the infrastructure to support the transportation of those very same people is not being equally built up. The CCCC plan is working out spectualcary, if you like unsafely oversized blocks of housing popping up everywhere. Use of all transport has gone up! Because of a typo, the ban was only lifted on Lyft service cars. Uber seems very cross that one of their competitors now has strict an advantage over them but they really can't do anything about it. The ground may be be taxed for space but beneath, around, and above are planes of space still eager to be used. The most obvious solution is to [[expand]] on existing underground infrastructure of the L and other trains that are able to get to the same places like J, M, and Z. [[Waterways]] also remain a mostly untapped space for ferry travel, which could solve the problem of how to get people across the river. With our eyes set on the skies, it's only natural to remember how the Empire State Building's monolithic observation tower was originally stated to be used for docking zeppelins and airships in the 1930's. What if we [[revitalize]] this mode of travel in this age of limited car space?

Car and taxi use is down now that there is a reliable bussing service across the bridge [[Winter 2018]]

The transportation network company, Uber, is proposing that the NYC ban on unregistered taxi drivers be lifted so that anyone can be an Uber driver, no training or lisance from the Taxi and Limonusine Company required. Although this service may cut down on the amount of cars being driven on the Willamsburg bridge and could create new 'jobs', it would be very hard unlift the ban when people become accustomed to it. The subway has become so congested, people are being stacked on top of each other- litterally. The sardine councial have denouced the deplorable conditions of the L Train, which is more man than metal at this point.

The L Train shutting down certianly has had an impact, but it's been managble. The bridge is packed, roads never empty, however its all been reasonable. Maybe when the L Train reopens, the world will find another way to imrpove this situation?
