It is indeed mid-morning already.
Whilst observing the forest around you, you notice something strange.

A strange substance that appears to be categorised somewhere between a liquid and a solid sticks to the tree, a bright, unnatural colour as the sun hits it. It looks [[poisonous]], but there is no fast way to check. You look away for a moment in thought. Conveniently, in the direction you look you can see a pillar of smoke arising from the trees, no doubt [[the town]]. Looking back at the tree, you notice the substance is not alone, it’s visible [[on trees behind]] the initial one you spotted. You speedily race into the market without a glance at anywhere else in the township.

You decide to leave it alone and [[Go into town]] You move swiftly through the forest, it gets denser. As you crouch to move below a low hanging branch, a sharp pain stabs through your side. It reminds you of memories laced with guilt. [[You push forward]] Finally you reach a break in the trees and you are struck frozen with overwhelming fear. An emotion that does not come easily to you.
A woman- no. gender is a construct reserved for only humans. An [[alluring figure]] lay in a puddle, or perhaps more accurately, cocoon of the neon substance.
Without rational thought you draw your dagger, motivated only by the fear threatening to blind you with it’s intensity. This is not the first time you’ve met with this figure, it had overcome you in the past, threatened your life as well as those around you due to your own incompetence as a novice adventurer. Even so, they had [[already seen you]] and there was no going back now. A weak shot of light was tossed your way by the figure.

The shot hits you, though far weaker than the tree-shattering weapon you’d seen them use before, it hit directly the old wound you’d sustained for them only weeks ago. The dagger hits the ground first, and then your body.

You weakly look up towards the figure. They really are beautiful, in a fearsome way, and yet they lay here in what you can only assume is silent agony, as that is what you too are feeling. You've had some strange [[dream]] but cannot remember the details. You can feel the rain pounding on the tent’s exterior and realise you don’t quite remember how you got here, but you are starving. You should leave or you may miss the best of yesterday’s hunt at the town’s only store.

You hastily look around the tent for anything you may need, a few things catch your eye: a bag of [[coins]], a small [[survival kit]], an empty [[container]]. You flip through the pages until you find an excerpt on poisons.
You follow the steps prescribed to you in the adventure handbook. You [[smell]] the substance.
You don't really have any way to tell if it's poisonous or not, so you may as well give it a shot. You remove your glove and take a piece of the substance onto your finger, it is soft and sticky. Your finger begins to itch so you quickly lick it off to taste. It burns your tongue, you drop to your knees and search around for anything that might give you relief. Unfortunately it’s too late, your tastebuds have almost certainly been fried. Give up and [[Go into town]], I'm not even going to bother giving you a choice if you're going to keep hurting yourself like this. you take out your empty container and fill it with the substance. Once you’ve filled it to the brim you look back down the trail, a last consideration whether or not you should follow the trail to collect more, you decided to continue on the path and [[Go into town]].<<if hasVisited ("container")>>When still nothing happens, you decide to [[Take a sample]]. Perhaps it may be useful later on.<</if>>

The map leads you back to the tree in which you spotted the strange substance, you continue along the path and encounter more and more of this strange thing… until you see a figure glowing in a small, grassy opening. She is not moving, bar the small rising and falling of her chest. As you see her, almost as if meant to be, the pain in your side intensifies and you take a sharp breath through your teeth. [[Shes the one]]… that gave you that injury all those months ago, you’re sure of it.With your new found group of people from the town you begin your journey to find the so-called monster. <<if hasVisited ("church")>> Suddenly, the person from the church speaks <span class="speech"> shut up. It seems as though she has not noticed you yet. You have time. Closing your eyes you run over that scene in your mind. It was almost hard to believe that this person could be the monster that almost tore your muscles from your bone, she seems so… non threatening. Would it be right to attack her as she is sleeping? Would it be right to attack her at all… you know she is capable of violence but… she hasn’t done anything except scare people away… [[drop your sword.]] [[drop your sword.]] [[drop your sword.]]
You gently place your weapons to the ground and approach the creature. She lets out a faint cry, almost like a reward for your choice, you realise she is in no place to fight you this time. The most she can do is reach her hand out in desperation.

[[Start Again]] Soon you make it to the tree that you spotted this morning, covered in the strange substance. You move past it along a small trail, seemingly rarely used, until you make it to a small opening. Suddenly a figure emerges, flying towards you at incredible speed. [[attack]]

You throw yourself to the ground narrowly escaping being hit as the others draw their weapons. <span class="speech"> Wait! </span> the dark haired one yells, <span class="speech"> I can speak her language [[let me talk to her]] </span>You immediately pull your dagger from your belt and attempt to defend yourself. The force of the monster pushes you to the ground, but you hear it cry in pain; [[you hit it!]] “Everyone, quickly! Attack it!”
A powerful slash of the monsters arm and your allies' body is tossed like dead weight against a small tree, cracking it straight in half. The monster seems... taken aback by such a violent action, and while distracted the remaining ally runs at full speed towards you, jumps high enough to reach your backpack, using it has a jumping pad to reach the monsters head and in one confident swing, slits it’s throat. It falls to the ground, but you run straight for the body left broken under the tree. It’s too late. Their [[heart]] has stopped.
You glance at the others, they drops their weapons, and you reluctantly do the same.
<span class="speech">Be careful</span> you warn, knowing full well of the damage this beast has done to you in the past. The person walks up to the creature and says something you do not understand. Their eyes begin to emit some sort of light, and they [[speak]]

You will not make the same mistakes your past self made, allowing innocent lives to be threatened and falling at the last hurtle. Such dreams still haunt you.
