[[You receive an email from the University of Northern Colorado]] In this email you are informed about the Cumbres Program at UNC
You fill out a questionare to see if you are applicable for Cumbres
You are!
They immediately get back to you and ask for an interview
[[Time for interview!!]]when it comes time for the interview your link doesn't WORK!!! [[AHHH]]You get out of the link and try again in order to get into the zoom meeting
[[Turn off your computer]]Turn off the computer to see if that works because nothing else is working!!!
Fortunately, that does work!
[[Time for interview]]Once you get onto to the zoom link, the interview begins
They ask about what school you went to, your grades, previous jobs, etc.
You don't remember how you respond becausee you are so nervous
They tell you that Cumbres is a latino community that helps teachers with their students that are culturally and linguistically diverse
After that, they tell you that you got accepted into the Cumbres program!
The Cumbres program is not on your mind all summer until you realize that it is already time to go to college!! [[After the summer]]After relaxing allll summer, it is finally time to go to college already!
You say goodbye to your crying family and go to your dorm
You and your roommate get situated into the room and are ready for the year!
Once you are all done with getting situated it is time for the [[first weekend on campus]]You meet new people, going to new places and are looking forward to class
The first weekend on campus is exciting! You go to drag queen bingo, you eat lots of free food and a lot of freeee stickers
Some of the [[free food]] includes: You can either get [[tacos]]
[[Nacho fries]]Once you get your tacos you go to the [[UNC volleyball game]]Once you get your nacho fries, you go the [[UNC volleyball game]] After the volleyball game, and after the weekend, it is the [[first day of class]]Your very first class of the day is Intro to Mexican American Studies (which is required for the cumbres cohort)
You are hesistant whether or not you should sit in the front or the back of the class. But you realize you are meant to sit in the front
In this class you are eager to learn the impact of Mexican-American history on today's culture.
While you are in class, you wonder who in the class is part of the Cumbres program
After the first day, you realize that you are aleady a [[few weeks into college life]]You and Julia sit together at a table filled with Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores
The director and the advisor who you met with in your meeting and are the leads of Cumbres begin the meeting
They both tell you what the rest of the year is going to look like
For the year, community service is required, attending the leadership meetings is also required for newcomers
For [[community service]] there are spokespeople who talk about certain opportunities that you can do After a few weeks or so of class, there is the annual Cumbres meeting
At first, you can not find the location of the meeting but you see two other people who are just as confused as you are
They are both waiting at the door
One is a girl named Julia and the other, a boy named Manny
The girl, Julia, is also a Cumbres freshman
We all go together to the meeting once we finally find... [[The Cumbres Annual Meeting]]There are a few things that you can do which include:
[[tutoring children whos first language is not english]]
[[work as a volunteer for those in need]]
[[attend an educational fesival]]
[[partake in a survey about college students]]

You have to fill out a lot of paperwork for your teacher preparation
You have to get a background check and get your fingerprints to teach
You are swimming in papers that you have to do and you have a lot of reading to catch up on
Even though you are feeling OVERWHELMED, you feel excited about the future and your future with the Cumbres program.
