Are you in a game?
[[Yes]] or [[No]]Alright then, down the rabbit hole it is true believer.
[[Left]] or [[Right]]?You escaped!
Well done you.
Now back to your real and probably pointless life.
Woah! Steady on there - did you even think about that choice?
Left it is then. The sinister side...
Well, I guess you stumble down a dark passageway, yada yada yada, until you see...
[[Something frightening]] or [[something mundane]]Oh, so it's going to be like that is it, well check you out - just clicking "Right" like it's no big deal.
You find yourself in a strange wood. It's dark or light, or whatever, look just make something up would you? You should probably add some trees in to get the overall effect going. You know the sort of thing I mean.
You decide to [[press onward]] or [[stop and camp for the night]]"Rawrrrrrr!" the frightening creature says.
"Was that ok?" It asks.
You have no idea who it is asking: you, itself, the person who made it? You don't really care.
You awkwardly squeeze past it and try to avoid eye contact. Nothing about this is particularly frightening. You think you see sadness in the creature's eyes but on second thought it looks more like apathy.
You continue down the passageway and make it outside to a wooded area. You wonder how a passageway could turn into a woodland like that, a mysterious voice tells you to shut the hell up and choose to [[press onward]] or [[stop and camp for the night]]C'mon. Where is your imagination?
[[Something frightening]]
You press onward through the trees. You walk for what seems like ages but really its only been a few minutes. It's hard to tell how much time has passed when you've got nothing to distract you from the banal thoughts in your head.
You wish you were playing a more interesting game.
At some point you come to a fork in the road. Do you go [[to the left]] or [[to the right]] or [[not this again, didn't you do this trick at the start?]]
Yes I did.
Don't you feel clever. Ok, ok, interesting. I'll try not to read too much into that choice. Sure you didn't want to go [[to the right]]? No? Ok - it's a free country.
You continue down the woodland path (see I remembered it was woodland) until you come across some kind of bear/squirrel creature, y'know the type you usually get in the woods. It looks real angry too.
Do you [[run and hide]] or [[draw your sword (didn't I mention you had a sword?)]]
You reach a large river, well you think it's large, this is the first river you've seen in real life (you should get out more) so you don't really have much to compare it too. But, boy oh boy, is that thing impressive.
Do you [[attempt to wade across]] or [[follow the river downstream]]?To be fair that's what I would do as well if I was in your situation. Don't you listen to any of those other punks who call you a coward.
You hide behind a conveniently placed rock and wait for the bear/squirrel/badger thing to move on. Once its left you emerge from your cowardly (sorry) hiding place and walk onward. Soon the woodland begins to thin and you see a village before you.
Do you gravitate towards the welcoming lights of the [[pub]] or the [[bakery]]?
You start to wade across the river. It's so cold you can hardly take it but you carry on because what else do you have to live for if not this?
About halfway across you realise this was a terrible idea and let the current take you. As the icy water fills your lungs you contemplate your pointless existence and wonder if you ever made an impact on anyone's life.
You think there's a 50/50 chance you did. Which is not bad.
(But it's not great either)You follow the river downstream like a good boy scout (or was that something you saw on TV one time?) Anyway it was good advice because eventually you see a village down in the valley. You rush towards the welcoming lights of the [[pub]] or maybe the [[bakery]]?In the pub you order a pint and settle down at a table full of red-faced men and women. You start to regale them with the story of how you came to be here, the hard choices you made, the near escapes and good fortune you had to make it this far.
No-one appears to be listening.
You drink your pint, which to be honest tastes a bit dodgy, and leave. No-one looks up as you go.
You escaped!
Well done you. You wonder if it was worth it after all. Really, the bakery over the [[pub]]? What the hell do you need a croissant for right now?
Re-think your life. You stop and camp for the night. You forgot to bring a book so you look up at the stars and try to remember the constellations you used to know. All you can recall is Orion's belt and even then you're not sure you've got the right one. You wonder why you bothered in the first place.
After a while you go to bed and have the worst sleep of your life. At some point a beetle crawled across your face and it freaked you out so much you couldn't go back to sleep.
In the morning you decide to [[press onward]]You draw your sword with a mighty clang but the sound effect (because actually swords shouldn't make a noise when you draw them) only seems to anger the bear/squirrel/badger creature and as it hurtles towards you, you have only seconds to ponder the uselessness of your life and the general pointlessness of this whole endeavour, before it rips your head off.
Sorry, you probably should have hidden, this isn't a game. Double-click this passage to edit it.
