You hear a female voice that sounds vaguely familiar: “[[Remember|remember]]!” Then everything fades to black. There was nothing except for the after image of a feeling. A feeling of being very comfortable and safe. -Try to [[remember]] (if: $heart is 1)[-Or [[try to wake up quickly]]!]You try to open your eyelids, realizing that you don't really know how. You don't sense any part of your body, including your eyelids or your eyes for that matter and you don't see anything no matter what you do. Maybe the reason you can't open them is because you are asleep? Maybe you could [[scare yourself into waking up]]?Like what? - [[Your heart]] - [[The thing between your legs]]After having this thought you quickly begin to wonder if a heart CAN be moved. Well, in a purely retorical sense it certainly can. In a physical sense it is certainly moving all the time as well. But the question is can you move it yourself? Meaning intentionally and at will? You then realize that there aren't any sounds. Which isn't too unusual, but normally if there aren't any sounds at all and it's completely quite, like when standing inside a sound booth or submerged in a pond of still water or something, the complete quietness normally allows you to at least hear your own heart beating, but you don't even hear that. But getting back to moving your heart in a retorical sense, you try to see if you can move your heart that way. Maybe by thinking back to something moving you experienced, but you can't remember anything at all. But supposing you COULD remember something, what is it that you would like to remember? [[Something comforting from happier times|Something happy]]. [[Something sad]]. Just give me the unfiltered, cold, hard [[truth]]!Ahem... I think you might be mistaking this for the wrong kind of story. That said, this actually brings up an interesting point. Because what DO you have between your legs? Because if we may stop the forth wall breaking, you don't actually remember your gender or anything else for that matter. That said, do try moving a different part: [[Your eyelids]] [[Your heart]] You are standing in a basement. So you naturally assume that it must belong to a house, though you are pretty sure it's not one of those modern suburban houses. Judging by the look of this basement it all seems to be pretty old with no one having been here in a long time. There is dust everywhere, the floor seems to consist entirely of mud and everthing is very dimly lit, though you can't even make out the exact light source. There are [[boxes]] everywhere and there are wooden [[stairs]] leeding up.You suddenly find yourself next to a door. (set: $fire to 1) (set: $radio to 0) You are curious and slowly and carefully open it and take a peek to see what's on the other side, it seems to be a relatively ordinary, though elegant and old fashioned [[Living Room]].The thing that makes you sad the most is that you always kinda feel that there is something wrong with you, that you are not good enough. Though you don't know what you would need to be good enough for. But you are certain that if you COULD remember your past, you would be rather unhappy about it, for one reason or another. The things you have done? You are sure you did your share of bad deeds, but mostly you regret the things you DIND'T do. You regret your inactions much more than your actions and you now start to remember something, though you are unsure if it's the former or the latter. And suddenly you are able to see something - there is a hallway. A long dimly lit halway. You inadvertently move along said hallway and find yourself at a door that you slowly open. On the other side of that door you see a [[basement]]. "You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" (set: $truth to 1) Hey! Imagine that! You do remember something after all! Funny that watching that movie with Jack Nicholson would be the first thing you are able to recall. But as for the truth of your situation - well - that's kinda what you are supposed to find out for yourself, cause as they say; truth is in the eye of beholder. So what is your truth? [[Something happy]] [[Something sad]] You open one of the boxes and find a shovel inside. You realize you might be able to use it to [[dig]] here. You walk up the dusty old stairs. There is a wooden, but solid looking door at the end of them, you try to open it, but find it locked tightly. It loooks like you have no choice but to go back down to the [[basement]]. (if: $key is 1)[Or you can try and see if the [[key]] fits]You start digging in the middle of the basement, as the ground seems to be composed of rather muddy, but soft soil. After only a few seconds though, the ground starts to shake and all the earth you unearthed falls back into the tiny pit you managed to dig. You decide to: [[Continue digging]] [[Give up]]You continue digging relatively effortlessly in the muddy, but soft soil. After only a few seconds though, the ground again starts to shake, but this time you used the shovel to throw the earth far enough away so that it doesn't fall back in. Though that doesn't help much as the soil is so muddy that it just flows back in and closes hole anyway. You decide to: [[Keep trying|Keep trying3]] [[Give up]]You continue digging relatively effortlessly in the muddy, but soft soil. Though that doesn't help much as the soil is so muddy that it just flows back in and closes hole anyway. You decide to: [[Keep trying|Keep trying5]] [[Give up]]You dig, but this time you decide that instead of moving the shovel back out, you instead keep it in, preventing any of the muddy soild from flowing back in the whole. It's not really working though and the muddy spoild just keeps flowing back in the hole. You start to question what is going on, because if the soil is that muddy, shouldn't you be sinking in too? It's as though someone or something doesn't want you to dig. You decide to: (if: $truth is 1)[[[Be even mor determined and never give up untill you find the truth1|Keep trying6]]] [[Keep trying|Keep trying5]] [[Give up]]"I am just not gonna give up" you think to yourself and just after you thought that and before you even actually continued digging, the ground again shakes, more loudly than before. You tremble and shake which makes you trip and you fall right into the relatively tiny hole you managed to dig so far. But since it's very muddy and since you further loosened the soil with all your digging, you not only fall very softly, but now you actually are starting to sink into the soil yourself. So you: [[Quickly get out|basement]] Decide to just [[stay put]], as you are determined to find out if there is anything else down there, one way or another. You just keep standing still and don't move, which makes you sink down even faster, untill suddenly your feet hit solid ground and you just stand there like an idiot in knee deep mudd. If you wanted to kill yourself, this obviously wasn't the way, and you seem to vaguely remember a much more effective way to do that. As you try to get out of the mudd again, you notice there is [[something else in the mudd]]!(set: $name to (prompt: "What is your name?", "")) Welcome back (print: $name)! (set: $fire to 1) (set: $radio to 0)You are in an old fashioned living room with a big table and some chairs. There is also an [[old radio|old Radio]], though there appears to be no electricity. Though there are [[windows]], it seems to be dark outside, making it equally dark in here, though there is still barely enough light for you to be able to make things out and also there is a [[Fireplace]]. (if: $tv is 1)[You suddenly hear a sound comming from the 2nd floor!](if: $fire is 1)[There is a fire burning in the fireplace. You can try to [[switch it on]] again, or you can go back to the middle of the [[Living Room]].]You walk up to the windows, pull away the curtains and take a look outside. It's pitch black outside. You also notice that the windows don't seem to have any handles to open them. You decide to go back to the middle of the [[Living Room]].You relax for a while, sitting on the floor next to the fireplace. Since it's the only source of heat, it's nice being able to warm yourself up a bit, though the floor is actually still cold. You could [[pull one of the chairs over to sit some longer]] or you could go back to the middle of the [[Living Room]].You pull one of the chairs over to sit some longer. After a while you actually feel bored and start wondering if there isn't something more important for you to do? Or some more important place for you to be? Thinking about that, you realize that there don't seem to be any doors, other than the one you came in. But maybe you could leave through the [[windows]]? Or you could just [[sit some longer]].As you continue to sit on the chair next to the fire, you suddenly hear the [[old Radio]] making noises, you turn to look, but it's still switched off. Maybe you imagined it. As you look back at the fire, you realize that it's getting smaller. Maybe you should [[put some more wood into the fire]]. There is some right next to the fireplace. Or you could just [[sit some more]].You put some wood into the fire. Afterwards you decide you wasted enough time sitting around and go back to the middle of the [[Living Room]].As you continue to just sit there and try to think about what happened you notice that the fire went out. Though there is some more firewood right next to the fireplace, there don't seem to be any matches and even if there were, it would be hard to find them in the dark. (set: $fire to 0) Though what is strange is that even though it became considerably darker without the fire burning, you can still make out the basic shape of things, asking yourself why it's not completely dark now, without any light source? You decide to go back to the middle of the [[Living Room]].As you continue to sit there in total darkness, you again begin to think that there has to be a way out of here. Then it suddenly hits you - THE CHIMNEY! The chimney HAS to lead to the outside! You decide to step into the now cold fireplace and [[look up the chimney]].You start climbing up the chimney, which is easier than you thought it would be, as the bricks are a bit uneven, making it easy to stand on them. As you make your way up, there is another opening in the chimney to what seems to be a Fireplace in the [[second floor]]. You can get out here, or you can [[continue to climb up towards the roof]]. You continue to climb up towards the roof, but to your suprise the chimney just ends after a few more meters. It doesn't seem to be leading towards the outside at all! How can that be? That doesn't make any sense! Obviously the smoke would have had to go to somehwere. Maybe it went out into the [[second floor]]? Or you can climb all the way down back to the [[first floor|Living Room]]You stick your head through the opening and you see another fireplace - which is luckily not lit. You squeeze through the opening, and fall into the 2nd floor firplace. You dust yourself off and get out of the fireplace and stand up. The room you are standing in is about the size of the room on the first floor, except that it's completely empty. You decide to: -Go back to the [[first floor|Living Room]] -[[Look around some more]]It's an empty room! What do you expect to find? There is nothing here! Of course there is the fireplace, but that is not lit and is empty. (if: $tv is 1)[And of course there is a big [[TV]] standing in the middle of the room. And except for a small [[fuse box]] in the corner, there is nothing on themYou look up the ceiling. There is nothing on the ceiling though, except for a small light bulb dangling from the middle of the ceiling and a cable that runs from the light bulb to a [[fuse box]] in the corner. You step towards the fuse box and open it. The power to the first floor seems to be switched off. You decide to switch it back on. (set: $radio to 1) -Go back to the [[Living Room]] on the first floor. You switch on the radio again. There seems to be power now, so at least you hear something, though all you hear is static. You don't seem to be getting any stations. Though sometimes you seem to be picking up some voice and some typical 2 way radio chatter, like someone saying "roger that" or just "roger" or soemthing like that. Strange... you thought this was a normal one way radio for listening to music... Suddenly you hear a [[knock]] from somewhere! You try to remember, but the more you try to think about what happened or why you are feeling this way, the more the feeling slowly but steadily fades away. And the more it fades away, the more worried you become, until finally it gives way to pure fear and dread. Which is then slowly but steadily surpased by a feeling of intense pain. Emotional pain, sure. But above all an increasing physical pain as well. The more you come to your senses, the more you realise that the only thing you are able to perceive for the moment is that every part of your body and every single nerve, even every cell is experiencing [[tremendous pain]].The perception of pain remains your dominant and only perception for a while, though it would be very difficult for you to say for how long, as you slowly begin to realise that you have no means of measuring the passage of time. You slowly start to become aware of your body. Or rather you start to become aware of the fact that you can't move any part of it. Which to be honest does seem to be an improvement in itself, at least now that you think of it, as previously you didn't seem to be aware that you had [[a body]].Now that you think about it, there is one part of your body you didn't try to move yet and that is: - [[Your eyelids]] - [[Something else]]You try to think of something scary, though nothing particular comes to mind other than your present predicament, which in itself is scary enough. And once you realized that, you do suddenly open your eyes and find yourself in a [[basement]].You look around to see where it might be coming from. You check the door to the cellar and slowly and nervously open it just a tiny bit. A dark figure is standing next to you, though he isn't actually really dark himself, but it's difuclt to make out who or what he is because of the dim lighting. You can: [[Let him in]] and talk to him (He has to know what's going on) Or you can can just [[Tell him to get lost]] (You don't need anyone bothering you right now, as you have enough on your mind as is) Or first [[Ask him who he is and what he wants]] Or you can [[just attack]] him (since he either broke in or he is the one keeping you here - either way he is a criminal!)You pick it up and see that it's some kind of (very dirty and muddy) paper! You clean it up as good as you can and realize it's a letter! It reads: "Dearest Roger, we all miss you and hope you get well soon! Please come back to us! Love, Iris" Someone must have left their trash down here! You aren't surprised, I mean this whole affair was very dirty to begin with. To think you actually thought you might find a way out in all this mudd! You quickly get out of the mudd and walk back to the middle of the [[basement]]. Suddenly you hear a [[knock on the door]]! Or at least you think you do, because you also suddenly remember that there is no door, other than the one to the cellar or the passage to the chimney, but neither of those lead outside, right? Yet again your hear it and it definitely sounds like a [[knock on the door]]!You wanna be nice and compassionate. Maybe this other guy is in a similar prediciment and just woke up in the cellar like you did and is now looking for a way out of this house just like you are. So you decide to let him in. As you open the door more widely and you can make out the figure more clearly, you realize it's not a guy at all, but a young woman, maybe 25 years old with long black hair flowing all the way to her hips and wearing a long black cloak - hence the difficulty of making out her features in the dark. She is not bad looking, though not particularly pretty either, with many noticable scars all over her face and hands and propably the rest of her body. [[She steps inside]] while remaining silent. You politiely tell him that you have enough on your mind as is and that you don't need anyone bothering you right now. While you are saying this you look away for a second and as you look back at him, he is suddenly gone. Well, that was certainly quick! Though maybe he did go away a little too quick? And where did he go to? After all there still seems to be no way to get out, but obviously he must have known a way and who was he anyway? You regret not asking him about theese things, as now it seems like you will never get any answer or even be able to leave this strange place... [[GRATULATIONS|bad]]!!!"Who's there and what do you want!" You shout with a stern voice. You wait a few moments for a response, but there is none. You again look through the door, but you realize the figure suddenly seems to have simply vanished without a trace. Well, good riddance! Whatever it was, it won't bother you anymore! The only downside is that now you will propably never find out WHAT it was and now it seems like you will never get any answer or even be able to leave this strange place... [[GRATULATIONS|bad]]!!!You simply hit the dark figure with your fist as hard as you can! But you don't actually hit anything. It's like punching into thin air and after your punch, you realize the figure has simply vanished without a trace. Well, good riddance! Whatever it was, it won't bother you anymore! The only downside is that now you will propably never find out WHAT it was and now it seems like you will never get any answer or even be able to leave this strange place and suddenly everything fades to black... [[GRATULATIONS|bad]]!!!GRATULATIONS!!!! You found the "bad" ending! Well, okay, it's not REALLY the bad ending, since I guess that's a matter of perspective. If you were looking for the most comforting ending, then believe it or not, but this is actually it! Since you didn't have to discover any of the unplesant and traumatizing elements of your past or confront your inner demons so to say. People say ignorance is bliss, so this is definitely the most blissfull ending then. Please do let me know in the comments that you found the "bad" ending and what you think of it (and yes, that means there are still many other endings, and if you keep looking around you can already find lots of clues for them!)you show compassion turns out female, heart She steps inside and walks towards the fireplace and then she turns around facing back towards you. Neither of you say a word and just look at each other. She looks at you for the longest time and looks at you in a way as though you should recognize her from somewhere, but having no recollections of your past at all, you don't know where that might have been or if you even know her at all. You can: [[Ask her]] what she wants [[Ask her]] what her name is [[Ask her]] how she got here [[Ask her]] how to leave the house [[Ask her]] about her scarsYou slowly open your eyes. You are in a bed in a hospital. Your wife is leaning over you smilling. The transplant was a full success! At least that's what your wife joyfully shouts. But you aren't actually that sure and still feel uneasy... [[Gratulation]]!After asking her she just looks at you again. And yet again she looks at you in a way as if saying "don't you know?", but without actually saying anything. She stays that way for a few minutes and just goes on giving you that kind of look without ever blinking or looking away. It makes you feel increasingly uncomfortable. Finally she stops looking at you and instead looks over to the radio as if telling you too look at the radio and so you [[look at the radio]].You look at the radio but there is nothing new about it and it just continues broadcasting static. You look back at her, but the moment you do she is suddenly gone again! You look around the room, but don't see her anywhere. Where could she have gone to?? It makes no sense! You can: [[Look for her]] [[Or look at the radio again]] there must be more to it and she must have been trying to hint at it. Well, she isn't in the living room, so you look back into the basement, but she isn't there either. No way she could have made it up the chimney - you would have noticed for sure. In a way you are glad she is gone. Her silence and the way she looked at you made you feel extremely uncomfortable. If not to say even somewhat guilty and not knowing what you should feel guilty about just made it even worse. So you are actually really glad she just disapeared again. The only downside is that now you will propably never find out what any of this was about and now it seems like you will never get any answer or even be able to leave this strange place and suddenly everything fades to black... [[GRATULATIONS|bad]]!!!You look at the radio again, but it's still just broadcasting static. You really don't know what she could have been hinting about. Except... you have always assumed that it's just a normal radio for listening to music and to the news and stuff, because that's the way it looks. But what if it really is a 2 way radio? But how could that be? There is no transmitter button and there is no microphone - at least not any you can see. But what if you can't see them? You could [[try to just talk to it anyway]].You try to just talk to it anyway. But what should you say? -"[[Can anyone hear me]]?" -"[[I hear you]]!" -"[[Pan-pan]], pan-pan, pan-pan" (It's kinda like an SOS but less urgent and with unecesary repetitions :-)"Can anyone hear me?" You shout at the top of your lungs. Even if the radio doesn't transmit, if there is anyone nearby, he would have been sure to hear you, yet there is no response, even though you keep shouting it many times. [[Maybe you should try saying something else]]? You remember that there was a voice saying "roger" something and you assumed it was "roger that" and the person was speaking to someone else. But what if it wasn't "roger that", but just "roger". What if "Roger" was a name? And what if maybe that person was actually trying to contact you? So you decide that you should let them know that you hear them... "I hear you!" You say loud and clear. Nothing. Static. But maybe if you [[just continue to listen]] to the voice, then maybe it will come back?"Pan-pan, pan-pan, pan-pan" you shout at the top of your lungs. Even if the radio doesn't transmit, if there is anyone nearby, he would have been sure to hear you, yet there is no response, even though you keep shouting it many times. [[Maybe you should try saying something else]]? But what should you say? -"[[Can anyone hear me]]?" -"[[I hear you]]!" -"[[Pan-pan]], pan-pan, pan-pan" (It's kinda like an SOS but less urgent and with unecesary repetitions :-)You decide to just wait and listen and turn the volume way up. Suddenly there is a voice again. It's a female voice that sounds vaguely familiar and it definitely says "roger". But it's the name "Roger". It says; “Roger, remember!” You suddenly feel a sense of unease - and you feel like this happened before. You can: (set: $tv to 1) -Say that you [[don't remember]] -Try to [[remember]]Is this the same voice from the beginning? It is, isn't it? It keeps saying that "remember". But you don't know what to remember. And honestly you don't WANT to remember. You just want to get out of hear and not reflect on any personal, psychological or philosophical issues! There has to be some practical way to get out of here! Maybe if you just [[ask the woman for help]]?GRATULATIONS!!!! You found the ("real" and "good") ending! Only problem is, I haven't fully written it out yet, so this is just a sorta short version of it to give you a hint. (And also it isn't actually real and good, but never mind that - you didn't hear that) So, [[to be continued]]... But how? You tried that already, she doesn't hear you. But maybe she will help you anyway. [[Let's see what she says]]You decide to just wait and listen if she might say anything usefull that would help you to get out of here... But you don't hear the femal voice anymore. Instead you hear a male voice. A male voice that is singing. It sounds like Frank Sinatra. He is singing "My Way". Could this just be an ordinary one way radio after all? You can: [[Continue listening to the station]] (Maybe you learn something interesting when the news comes up) Give up and go back to the middle of the [[Living Room]] You continue listening to Frank Sinatra for what feels like hours. Finally there is a news broadcast. It talks about some ongoing war, but assures the listeners how victory is certain and to not worry as everything will turn out great. You have no idea what this is about, but it neither sounds useful to your situation nor very reassuring. But after many hours of listening you finnally [[fall asleep]].(set: $ghost to 1) Wait, WHAT! THAT WASN'T THERE BEFORE! Where did that come from? But yes, there is suddenly a big old fashioned TV standing in the middle of the room. Since you already switched the power back on, you connect it to an outlet and switch it on. It works! THough it's only in black and white and there seems to be only one channel... some kind of [[hospital soap opera]].Well... at least you see a hospital bed. There is a woman there sobbing and holding the hand of the patient, saing how she misses him and wishes that he would wake up. Come to think of it, it looks more like security footage than a soap opera. Well, maybe a sob opera... Since there isn't much else to do around here you decide to [[continue to watch tv]].Nothing much happening other than the woman contiueing to cry for what must have been hours now. It's getting kinda annoying really. Annoying and boring... you are having trouble kkeping awake and doze off for a few minutes - or maybe it was a few hours. Judging by the stiffness of your neck it propably was the latter, but there is no real way to tell. When you wake up it still shows a hospital room and bed on the tv. But the woman is gone now. The patient is gone too, or rather it's not the same patient anyome. It was a male patient before, but now the patient seems to be female and there is an armed guard standing in the corner of the hospital room. [[Continue watching]](set: $heart to 1) You continue lwatching. Eventually a second guard comes in. That's weird. Is she a criminal or something? A doctor comes in and takes her pulse. Suddenly she wakes up and everyone looks startled. They clearly didn't expect this to happen. The doctor quickly gives her what must be a seddative and she falls asleep again. Speaking of which, you too are [[getting tired again]].GRATULATIONS!!!! (set: $tv to 1) You found the super secret true (and good) ending! Only problem is, I haven't actually fully written it yet! So, untill then, just continue normally and go to the [[Prologue]]. But please do let me know in the comments that you found the secret path that can ultimately lead to the true GOOD ending! (Once it is finished)GRATULATIONS!!!! (set: $tv to 1) You followed the various cryptic clues hidden throughout the story and figured out that your character's name is actually Roger! Well, either that or your name just so happens to be Roger (or you cheated). Either way, you found the super secret true (but bad) ending! Only problem is, I haven't actually fully written it yet! So, untill then, just continue normally and go to the [[Prologue]]. But please do let me know in the comments that you found the secret path that can ultimately lead to the true ending! (set: $heart to 1)You slowly open your eyes again. You are in a bed in a hospital. Your wife is leaning over you smilling. The transplant was a full success! At least that's what your wife joyfully shouts. But you aren't actually that sure and still feel uneasy and have many unresolved questions... [[GRATULATIONS]]!!They quickly bring the bed with the female patient outside the room and everyone leaves. You continue watching for what for what feels like hours. But nothing happens and it just seems to be a security cemera in an empty hospital room now. And so after mayn hours of watching you again [[fall asleep]] yourself. But please do let me know in the comments that you found the path leading to the "real" ending (and yes, that means there are other endings, though I haven't finished all of them yet either, but if you keep looking around, you can already find lots of clues to them and if you want you can leave a comment telling me what you think they are!) But for now, you can go back to the [[Prologue]] (there is gonna be more there soon.
