[<div3>You come upon the statue of Alexander Wood. The statue features a plaque that says the following;</div3>
<div2>Alexander Wood came to Canada in 1793, settled in York in 1797 and started a mercantile business, one of the only three stores in York at that time. Within a year he was a lieutenant in the York Militia; he was appointed magistrate in 1800 and by 1805 was a Commissioner for the Court of Requests (a senior planning officer). He was involved in a homophobic scandal in 1810 and fled to Scotland, but in two years he was back in Canada and resumed his duties. In spite of ridicule and discrimination he had a successful career in public service: he was on the excecutive of nearly every society in York, often as treasurer; he was manager of several businesses and acted for clients in land transactions. Wood died in 1844 at the age of seventy-two while in Scotland. The British Colonist paper called him one of Toronto's 'most respected inhabitants'.</div2>

One side of the monument details aspects of the scandal Wood was involved in while he was magistrate. Another side details the story of "Molly Wood's Bush".</div3>
<div2>"Molly" was a derogatory name for a gay man. In 1826, when Alexander Wood purchased fifty acres of land east of Yonge Street, north of Carlton Street in York (Toronto), it was rudely referred to as Molly Wood's Bush. (enchant: "Back to Menu", (text-color: #8e5252))<div3> This Twine renders the player an archivist who is tasked with exploring Toronto, learning about its history, and interacting with its citizens. Their end goal is to attain enough information about the city for their hypothetical research project, for a hypothetical archive.
This game takes a laidback approach to learning history in Toronto. That said, there is no right way to 'progress' in this game.
Players will be presented with the opportunity to make choices at certain points during the narrative. Some of these choices will escalate their progress, hence bringing them closer to being able to 'submit their research'; whereas other choices may lead them astray, and thus enlongate their research process. The choices that require the player to be open-minded, dive deeper, and learn more will grant them the value of further education as well as bring them within proximity of their objective. The latter will deviate them from attaining either of these, and thus require them to play the game longer to do so.
Playing devil's advocate is welcome; that is, challenging intuition and going off the beaten path is a productive way of navigating the entirety of the game. Players may continue to play through the game even when presented with the opportunity to 'turn in their research', for their own benefit.</div3>

Basically, a woman had come forth about being sexually assaulted, but was unable to identify her attacker because of how out of sorts she was. But, she remembered scratching his genitals in the midst of the altercation, which provided a lead for Wood.
So, he called for all of the suspects to come forward so he could inspect their genitals for the mark and identify the culprit. But, he didn't find the guy. And so, later, rumours went around that the whole story was made up. And, because of this the magistrate exiled him back to his homeland - which was Scotland. I think. Many also noted his “flamboyant character”, thus calling him a “molly” – a slur for queer individuals at the time – nevertheless, there was never hard evidence discerning this.<div3>You skim the bookshelves and come across a resource about the Ontario Human Rights Code.
