(set: $name to (prompt: "What is your name?", ""))
You wake up in your bedroom that is ever so cold. Outside is still very dark. You can tell, even though your curtain is closed. Today is your 17th birthday and you are very excited. But something feels different today. No, it's not the feeling that it's your birthday, but more of something has changed.
[[ You jump out of bed and look at the list of those who you plan to invite to your party tonight. ]] You have your 3 best friends; Vanessa, Julie, and Levi. Two classmates you know in History; Mark and Chris. Your cousins David, Lee, and Andy. Vanessa's brother Dylan. Your Uncle Darren and Aunt Suzan. You wonder to yourself if you're missing somebody.
"Maybe I can invite Nami," you say to yourself. You don't know her very well, she mysteriously showed up at school one day as a new student. Despite the fact she's a little weird and considered an 'outcast' you consider her cool and unique, maybe you'll be great friends someday.
[[ You suddenly hear your name being called downstairs. ]]"I'm coming!" you yell, running down the steps. It's your little sister, Marissa, calling for you.
"Something's happened!" she exclaims.
"What happened?" you ask.
"Our entire neighborhood and one of the shopping plazas had transported into another world!" Marissa replies. "Come see!"
[[ Marissa scurries off and you go follow her to see what is going on. ]]As you step outside, you see a whole crowd of other kids around your age and younger wondering what is going on. You have indeed entered a strange world along with the entire suburban neighborhood and the nearby shopping plaza. It had appeared that mostly kids around the ages of 4 - 18, plus a few adults under the age of 30 had appeared here.
[[ "What in the world?" ]]You think to yourself this can't be real, you must be dreaming. You rub your eyes and take another glance at your surroundings.
"Do you think we should explore?" Marissa suggests, looking up at you.
"I don't know," you reply. "Maybe we'd be better off and just stick around here, just so we could get a better understanding of what's going on."
"Oh, come on, please?" Marissa begged. "I wanna explore!"
You sigh, thinking this over. Should you explore or try to better understand what's going on?
[[ Explore with Marissa ]]
[[ Stay and find out what's going on ]]"Alright, alright! We'll explore" you decide to give into your 5-year-old sister.
"Yay!" Marissa claps. "Come on, let's pack up for our trip!"
She grabs you by the hand and rushes back into the house, forcing you to come along with her.
Considering you'll both be going on an exploring adventure, you'll probably need some kind of supplies. You grab your backpack and fill it up with snacks, a medical kit, and a survival guide, along with some other random things to keep you from getting bored such as an MP3 Player.
[[ "Okay, Marissa, I'm ready!" ]]"No, Marissa, we need to find out what is going on first" you tell her. "Let's go ask people what they think may be going on, or what happened"
"Fine!" Marissa pouts. She really wanted to go explore.
You start to ask random people what they think is going on, but they don't seem to know. You start feeling frustrated. You want to know what is happening.
You see your best friend Vanessa hanging out by the local doughnut shop.
[[ "Hey Vanessa!" ]]You say this, getting out of your room, with your backpack strapped behind.
"I'm ready too!" Marissa holds up her pink kitty backpack. "I even brought a flashlight!"
You smile. "That's cool, Marissa. Now come on, let's go, before I change my mind"
Marissa grins and takes you by the hand.
[[ You leave the neighborhood and go into this strange land. ]]You find yourself walking down a beaten path in a cold desert-like area. There's a few weird bushes scattered all around the land. They're red and look like thin spikes coming out of a soft fuzzy ball.
You've wandered really far from your home now, you can't even see it behind you anymore. The sky is like dusk, but you know it's morning, and it looks slightly greenish with dusty clouds here and there.
[[ Feeling tired, you about collasp on the ground. ]]"Oh, come on, $name, not now!" Marissa tries to shake you awake. "Let's go further!"
"I can't!" you reply, sounding very grumpy. "I'm tired and very thirsty."
"Well, why didn't you say so?" Marissa takes out a small water bottle from her backpack. "I can share this water with you."
You yank it from her hands and drink about half the bottle and give it back to her. "Thanks." you say, wiping your lips.
"I didn't say gulp it down," she shoves it back into her backpack.
"Come on," you get back up from the ground. "Let's go"
[[ So you continue on a little further. ]]You're still in this strange deserty area. It seems like there's no end. Now you wish you hadn't given into Marissa and had just stayed back home.
You stop and just look around you. Nothing but dark, cold sand in every direction, with all those weird red spikey bushes. It's like being on some other planet that's really really strange.
[[ "We're lost!" you say, sounding irritated. ]]"We're lost on some unknown world on my birthday!"
"Oh yeah!" Marissa just remembered. "Happy birthday!"
"Thanks," you say, in a slightly sarcastic tone.
"Hey look!" Marissa is now pointing at something. "I see a big, huge statue over there!"
You turn around and see it yourself in the distance. A dark figure standing all by itself. You really can't tell what it is, so now you have the urge to go up close.
[[ "Come on, Marissa, let's check it out!" ]]You take her by the hand and run over there.
When you finally see it up close, you are amazed. It's a giant statue of something. It looks like a man who is holding a torch high in one hand and a scroll in the other. The statue is a dark green and seems to be made of iron.
"There's something written beneath his shoes!" Marissa points at some letters engraved.
You are shocked to see it is not in weird ancient letters, but the regular modern letters you are used to, and on top of that it's in English.
"What does it say, $name?" Marissa asks.
[[ You read it aloud. ]]//You have reached the middle of the nowhere cold desert,
You've made it this far,
This statue is dedicated to our former king Zay who ruled over The Kingdom Of Drake for 40 years,
The travelers who are reading this message please hear our cry,
After the great King Zay had passed our land fell under a great darkness,
We want to start a revolution to save our world from the evil ruler who has no name,
If you scream the word 'For the kingdom of Drake, we have arrived for the revolution' you will be teleported here,
Please come....we've been waiting for years..//
Marissa stood there with wide eyes. "We should go help these people!"
[[ "Help these people?" ]]You looked at her like she was crazy. "Marissa, we don't even know where the heck we are!"
"But they need help," Marissa then started to look sad and like she was about to cry.
You then look at the statue again, reading the message silently in your head. Was this the reason you were here in the first place, to save The Kingdom Of Drake?
[[ Call the magical sentence ]]
[[ Forget about it and move on ]]
[[ Try to find your way back home instead ]]You breathe deeply and exhale a deep sigh. You can't stop thinking about how much those people may be suffering, and that the hope of their victory rests in your hands. "Okay Marissa," you take her hand. "We'll go"
You look at the statue one more time and try to think of that sentence you are supposed to yell out in order to be teleported to save the kingdom.
[[ "For the kingdom of Drake, we have arrived for the revolution!" ]]You decide it'd be better to just continue on.
"Marissa," you say calmly. "Who knows how old this statue is. It's possible they had already won their victory, or the kingdom doesn't exist at all anymore."
"But what if..." tears well up in her eyes and she starts to cry.
You moan, "Not now, not now!"
[[ Quickly you grab her hand and continue on. ]]"We need to find our way back home, Marissa" you say. "We've wandered off too far. Besides, who knows, it could be a trick, a trap!"
"But they need our help..." Marissa's eyes start to sparkle.
"We have to go now," you say, taking your sister's hand. [[ "Come on, let's go home." ]]
You run up to her. "Do you know what might be going on?"
"I have no idea, really." she replies. "But I think somehow our world and their world collided and just a small strip from our planet appeared on this planet. And the people on this world want to hunt us down one by one, and the winner will have to be in a stupid dance competition, but if they think you're no good, they'll keep you prisioner in a large ditch forever and ever!"
"Umm...okay..." you always were a bit freaked out by Vanessa's odd responses. [[ "Would you like to help me find out what's going on here?" ]]Vanessa thought about this for a moment and then nodded and agreed to help.
So the two of you are now running around the neighborhood and stores, asking people if they know what has happened. Nobody seems to know.
"I'm starved!" said Vanessa. "How 'bout we go grab a bite to eat?"
"Like where?" you ask.
"Well..." Vanessa looks all around here. "A few other buildings besides the neighborhood appeared here, too. Like that gas station over there, or that McBurger's."
[[ "I sure don't want to eat fast-food," you tell her. ]]Something catches your eye.
You are near the back of the neighborhood, and in the distance you see something, but you have no idea what it was.
You then remember Marissa wanting to explore. But you would have gone the other direction, which is forward from the front of the neighborhood. Now that you have reached the back. you found what is behind: A large open, sandy field with something in the distance that has caught your curiousity.
[[ "How 'bout we check what's over there?" you point to the area you are curious to explore. ]]Vanessa squints her eyes, "I don't see anything."
"Look a little closer," you tell her, moving her head a little more toward the direction. "You can barely see it, but something is definantly there."
"Oh, you're right, I do see something!" she nods. "But wait! I still vote we grab a bite to eat first."
"But what if it's not there anymore? I really want to see it!" you say.
Vanessa rolls her eyes, "Whatever is out there can wait!"
"No, it can't!" you start feeling frustrated again.
Already you have no idea where the heck you are, and now you have to make a choice whether to grab a bite to eat so your friend will stop complaining or find out what is out there in the unknown.
[[ Eat now, explore later ]]
[[ Find out what's out there now ]]You decide to get a bite to eat. It'll stop Vanessa's complaining, plus you're feeling a bit hungry too.
You decide to go to a local place called Farmer Diner and order pancakes and chocolate milk. You sit down in a booth near the window. Even though all this strange stuff has occured, being transported into a strange land and all, people still came in for work to help people feel less stressed out. The waitress came and put a plateful of pancakes in front of each of you, along with a glass of chocolate milk.
Vanessa practically inhales her food. As you watch, you wonder how she keeps from getting fat. She licks her fingers off from the sticky syrup and notices you hadn't touched your batch and only took a sip of your chocolate milk.
"What's wrong?" she asks. "You barely touched your breakfast. Farmer Diner pancakes are your favorite!"
"Yeah, I know." you then sigh. [[ "I am just so curious about what is out there, that thing I saw. I wanna go check it out so badly." ]]
"Vanessa, can't you think of anything else besides your stomach?" you say. "I mean, I have no idea how all that food can fit in that tiny body!"
"It burns in the acid, duh!" she replies. "Kinda like when you compress a file on the computer. You can fit a lot more in a little space."
You just roll your eyes and grab your friend's hand, "Come on, let's go see what's out there!"
[[ You drag her out as you search for that thing in the distance. ]]You shut your eyes, expecting some sort of blast, or sound of thunder, or something weird to happen. But you open your eyes and nothing's changed. You try saying the sentence again, "For the kingdom of Drake, we have arrived for the revolution!"
Still nothing. You feel like this is all a waste of time. But you try once again, only louder, almost screaming it. [[ "For the kingdom of Drake!! We have arrived for the revolution!!" ]]
You hear your voice echo throughout this strange desert and only feel a breeze pass through. But that's it. Nothing special happens. You are still here. Waiting. And nothing happened.
Marissa wasn't about to give up. She spoke in a loud, but gentle voice "For the kingdom of Drake, we've arrived for the revolution!"
"Sorry Marissa, it doesn't work." you say.
"Shhhhh...." she says, with her finger on her lips signing to be quiet. "I hear something."
[[ You strain your ears to try and listen to what could be the sound your little sister's hearing. ]]Suddenly there's a loud sound, ringing throughout this cold desert that sounds like a bell. It rings 3 times and then a gust of wind picks up, creating a bunch of sand into a twister the size of an F2 and it's headed straight for you!
Both you and your sister shut your eyes as the dusty-twister is spinning around you. You can feel the grains of sand hitting against your skin. There's a sudden flash of light and you both open your eyes. The dust turns to sparkles and then some kind of scenary is starting to form. The sparkles settle and fade away.
[[ You find that you are standing on a stone ground. ]]
It is cracked and weeds are growing out of them. There are ruins of some kind of structures scattered, with a few dying trees here and there. The dirt is a muddy green and there are strange blue flower bushes growing in the corners of some of these ruins. It's silent here and there seems to be no form of life besides you and Marissa.
"Whoever put that statue in the middle of the desert must have lived here thousands of years ago," you say. "They must have been waiting too long. This place looks ancient."
[[ You both decide to look around and see what you could find out. ]]You stumble upon an old courtyard and find stairs that lead into a little small room. One of the walls had fallen down, so it wasn't much of a room anymore. There was an old wooden table with some dinner plates and a candle now layered in cob webs. Marissa takes off one of the old, dusty plates and cleans it off. It looks painted and like it could easily shatter. There is a strange design of a heart, a sword, and a wolf on this plate.
"What do you think happened to them?" Marissa asks you.
"I don't know," you say, looking at an old book shelf. [[ You pull out an average-sized brown book. ]]The cover seems to be made of leather and it's extremely dusty. When you put it upon the table, a cloud of dusty blows in your face. You start coughnig and try to wave it away with your hands. You then open it and see that it was some kind of text book.
You read it aloud so that Marissa could hear it too:
//A hundred years ago, 40 years after the passing of King Zay, two men by the names of Era and Blake and their sister May had escaped the dark castle and made it far into the misery desert and built a statue to honor our beloved king. They also engraved a message so whoever comes across it will see a cry for help and call out the magical sentence to help free us from the darkness. But years passed and we're still waiting, help never came.//
"That's so sad," Marissa had a tear slip from her eyes.
[[ "I know, and this book was probably written like forever ago." ]]You shut the book and put it back on the shelf and pull out another one, this time, the cover seems to be made of blue velvet.
A piece of paper slips out, it seems to be a letter.
[[ You read it aloud ]]//There has not been a sunrise for 3 whole years now, there aren't even stars to light the sky! It's just darkness and silence. Something scary lingers in the dark, an invisible horror that has breath that smells like dead fish and rotten cheese, and has claws as sharp and thin as needles, and its eyes glow a blood red. I keep believing and praying that the traveler who stumbles upon the statue of the last king of Drake will come. I still believe in that hope, even though it's already been three thousand years since they had placed it there. It's hard to sleep when you know day will never come and you always hear scartching upon the walls. I know deep down in my heart someone will come, and whoever they are, they will be reading this letter. -Karah Mayla//
"Who's Karah Mayla?" Marissa asks.
"How should I know?" [[ you fold up the old letter and slip it into your backpack. ]]
"She could've written this hundreds of years ago."
"Well, it seems the darkness lifted" Marissa says, looking at the dim sky. "It's not eternal night."
"Yeah, but something happened here..." you become curious about this land's history. "This place is in ruins. We came too late"
"How were we supposed to know?" Marissa said. "At least we came!"
"But what happened here?" you continously wonder.
[[ You decide to continue exploring the ruins ]]
[[ You want to find out who Karah Mayla is ]]"Let's go explore the ruins," you say. "Maybe we'll find out more."
"Okay!" Marissa says, following you.
The sky was very dim, but not eternal night. Perhaps a traveller already did come here and freed them, and they just abandoned this place. It's possible. You try to imagine what living in a world where it's always night would be like. You just can't seem to picture it, how those people felt.
The silence is cold and frightening. Everything seems so dead. The ruins are decaying and falling apart. But you feel you might find something in the rubble, something to tell you what is going on here. Or what was going on here.
[[ You and Marissa have searched for over 2 hours now, and still found nothing. ]]You want to learn more about Karah Mayla, the girl who wrote the letter.
"She might be the key to something," you say. "Let's look around here more and see if we can find out more about her."
"Okay!" says Marissa, scurrying off to search for any clues.
You look through a bunch of old papers and it's just layered in dust. You cough as the cloud blows in your face. You find a locket that was in a pile of dust bunnies. Pulling it up, you dust it off. Initials C&KM are engraved on it. The locket is empty, however.
You set the necklace down and dig through more junk and find [[ an old music box. ]]"Let's just wait after breakfast," Vanessa says. "You shouldn't go explore the unknown on an empty stomach!"
"I guess you're right," you pick up your fork and dig in.
The pancakes are so light and fluffy, it's almost as if they melt in your mouth. Your apetite begins to return and your need to explore begins to fade. Suddenly, you find yourself wolfing down every last bit.
"Whoa, you sure eat fast!" Vanessa said, slamming her glass on the table. She had just finished drinking her chocolate milk. Taking a napkin, she wipes off her face. She looks out the window and her eyes widen. "Oh no, what now?" she says.
[[ "What?" you say. "What is it?" ]]"It's Dylan," she sighs. "He's running over here all panicked about something."
A tall, slightly skinny brown-haired 10-year-old comes running in. His eyes scan the room and spots your table. "Vanessa!" he yells, running toward the table.
"What is it now?" Vanessa asks, moving away some of her blondish-brown hair away.
"Come see this!" he says. "It's outside!"
"What's outside?" you ask curiously.
"Just come!" he grabs your hand and then pulls you toward the door. Vanessa reluctantly comes with.
"You know, Dylan, you should get more sun!" Vanessa says. "You're as pale as a vampire!"
"Just a little further," Dylan says, ignoring his sister.
[[ Your heart begins to race as you wonder what is going on. ]]You realize you are heading in the direction where you saw something in the distance.
Dylan comes to a stop and you almost trip. Everyone looks to the sky to see a bright flash of light, a loud booming sound, and a strong gust of dusty wind passing your direction and hitting against.
When the dust settles, you realize it's gone. Whatever was there is gone.
[[ You then look at your friend, feeling a bit ticked-off. ]]"See Vanessa?" you say. "I told you we should've explored first!"
"Well, I was hungry!" she says. "I'm so sorry."
You then notice something on the ground. It's pink and a bit dirty from the dust. You pick it up and try to see what it is. You gasp. It's Marissa's pink sweater!
"Oh no!" you say. "Marissa must've been in that blast. Stubborn little brat, she explored without me!"
"And that means she's gone," Vanessa says. "Oh shoot, that's not good!"
[[ "We have to find her!" ]]
You drop the sweater, and then run into the unknown desert.
Dylan and Vanessa run after you. There is no trace of that thing that was here. There is no trace at all. Marissa was gone.
"What are we going to do now?" asked Dylan.
"We have to keep searching!" you say. "We have to find her!"
You look around for any traces, any signs, anything that could lead to your sister's location. There's a small piece of paper that lay there on the ground. You pick it up and see that it is directions to a small shack where a person who can transport you to find a missing person lives. But is it true? You think about this for a moment. Your friends say "what do you got to lose?" but you were always the type to excercise caution.
[[ Better hunt down that shack to get help ]]
[[ This sounds shady, you need to figure out another way to find her ]]"Let's go and try to find the shack," you say. "It's the only hope we have of finding Marissa."
"Alright," Dylan yanks away the paper from your hand. He is great at reading maps and following directions. "Follow me!"
You and Vanessa follow Dylan as you three travel the unknown, dusty desert. There are strange looking plants scattered here and there. Some patches of grey grass that look like blankets, and skinny tall trees that are orange. "There!" Dylan points.
It looks like a ratty old shack that is falling apart. Despite what an eye sore it is, [[ you and your friends go over there. ]]
"I don't think that's such a good idea," you say. "I have to be cautious. This could be a trick for all we know."
"Then how else are we going to find her?" asks Vanessa. "This appears to be our only option."
"We do have to be cautious," says Dylan. "We're in a strange world now. We don't know anything about it yet."
"Exactly," you say. "How 'bout we study the site where it all started?"
"That's a good idea!" Dylan agrees.
"I'm in!" says Vanessa.
So it is settled. You go over to the site where you saw the strange thing in the distance. [[ You and your friends look hard to find any traces, any clues to tell you what has happened to Marissa. ]]
You notice the ground begins to get a little muddy. Sort of like walking on sand that the ocean waves constantly soak. This has definantly not been your day. It's your birthday, and so far, there isn't anything to celebrate.
Perhaps this is all a dream and you're going to wake up soon, chillin' with your best friend Vanessa at the Farmer Diner eating the Birthday Mania pancake special. But unfortunately, you find yourself still wandering, further and further from home.
"I'm tired!" complains Marissa. "Let's go home!"
"You got me into this mess," you say. "Besides, I don't know where we are, and we could get more lost if we try to go back, so let's just see if we can find some help."
[[ You feel your stomach rumbling and realize you're very hungry. ]] "Let's stop for a moment," you say, sitting on the muddy ground. "I really need a snack."
You search through your backpack and pull out a box of cheese crackers. You stuff a handful of that in your mouth and gulp it down. You then eat 3 red gummy bears and a sip of lemon soda. "Let's go," you say, grabbing your sister's hand and continuing on.
It feels like forever you've been wandering around this desert. Your legs begin to ache and your eyes start to feel heavy. You tell Marissa that you need to rest and catch your breath.
[[ "We'll probably have to camp out here tonight," you tell her. ]]"But what if something comes to eat it us?!" Marissa says in fear. "I wanna go home!"
"Be quiet, Marissa!" you command. "We wouldn't be here if you didn't want to so badly explore this stupid place!"
"Can we at least sleep in that castle?" she asks.
"What castle?" you feel puzzled, you don't remember seeing any castle.
[[ Marissa points to it. You look where she points and see a castle far in the distance. ]]
"Marissa, that's dangerous!" you say. "Someone evil could live there!"
"But what if they're not?" she says. "They could be friendly little elves or fairies!"
You roll your eyes and slightly shake your head. You don't want to risk going to some strange castle where some weird people could live. But then again, being out in this strange wilderness could be just as dangerous, if not more. A violent storm could hit. Or worse, a wild animal could kill both of you in the night.
[[ Maybe the best option would be finding shelter in that castle ]]
[[ You decide it'd be best to risk camping in the wild ]]You agree with your little sister and decide to go in the castle. It would be safer anyway. It's very cold out here and the ground is muddy. You both might get sick.
Besides, if you go to the castle, you might be able to get a good meal and a marvelous sleep. Perhaps the people there will even tell you how to get out of here.
[[ Taking your sister's hand, you start to walk toward the castle. ]]
You don't want to go to some strange castle. "Let's just camp out here" you tell Marissa. "It'll be safer. That castle could be a torture chamber for all you know, do you really want to find that?"
Marissa shakes her head. She pulls out a pop-up tent she had packed in her own backpack. [[ You both crawl inside and zip up the tent. ]]
You turn around and go back the way you came. You look at the ground, hoping to see your footprints so you can track your way back. You can slightly see them lightly imprinted on the ground and decide to follow. You eventually find your way back home.
Hey!" one of your friends, Julie, runs over to you. "You won't believe what just happened!"
"What happened?" you ask.
"There was this big blast!" she tells you. "A loud sound, a gust of wind, it was totally crazy!"
"What happened?" you demand.
"I don't know," she says. "There was something in the distance, but now it's gone."
[[ "Do you know where Vanessa is?" you ask. ]]"Yeah!" Julie replies. "She's packing up a bunch of food in her favorite duffle bag. She thinks something freaky is gonna happen, and we'll all have to leave now."
You then hear your name being called in the distance and turn your head. It's another one of your friends, Levi, running over to you. "Hey, $name, did you hear about the blast?"
[[ "Yeah," you reply. ]]"Julie filled me in."
"Vanessa is planning to leave!" he says. "I've already packed up myself, I'll be coming with her for this mass exodus."
"Do you really think something bad is going to happen?" you ask.
"I do, yes." Levi nods.
"I'm thinking of going too," Julie says. "It's better safe than sorry."
"I'm scared..." said Marissa, shivering in fear. "We're going to have to leave our home!"
"Don't be silly, Marissa!" you say. "Nothing is going to happen."
"Oh yeah, well, suit yourself, 'cause we're leaving!" Levi announces.
"Yeah, who knows what'll happen." says Julie. "Like....look around you...we're in another world!"
"Would you like to come with us?" Levi asks.
[[ "No way, it's just one of Vanessa's crazy scenarios." ]]
[[ "I agree with Julie, better safe than sorry." ]]"Besides, how would she know, anyway?"
"I'm going with them!" says Marissa, hugging Levi's leg.
"No Marissa, you're staying with me." you say.
"You can't stop her," says Julie. "Let her make her own decision."
"She's only 5 years!" you remind. "I'm the oldest here, and it is my job to watch over her!"
"No!" Marissa yells. "I'm staying with Levi and Julie!"
"Fine!" you stomp your foot and then walk away, feeling more mad than ever. What a great birthday this turned out to be. You've never had a worse day in your life.
You then see a girl you know, Nami, leaning against an office building with a backpack beside her. [[ She isn't really a friend of your, but you've talked to her many time.]]
"Besides, she could be right. We are in another world. Who knows what dangers are crawling around here."
"We're meeting at her house," says Levi. "There's a van, pick-up truck, and RV ready."
"Okay, let's go!" you say.
[[ You follow your three friends to Vanessa's house. ]]The sun reflects off of it, as if whatever is there is shiney. Once you are close, you see this metal-looking structure that is almost as clear as a mirror. It is a perfect square in width on all four sides and is raised high, like some kind of tower, and there is a door.
"Let's go inside!" you say.
"No way!" says Vanessa. "It could be very dangerous. Who knows what this tower is for. It looks futuristic, so I'm gonna guess aliens."
You roll your eyes. "There is no such thing as aliens!"
"I'm not going inside, that's final!" she says.
[[ "Fine, then I'll go in without you." you say, walking toward the door. ]]You wrap your hand around the knob and turn. Your friend stands behind you, not wanting to just leave you here alone to go inside some strange building. The door is unlocked and you push it open.
[[ You both walk inside. ]]It feels a little warm inside. You see that there is a window next to the door with light from the sun coming in. The room is totally white, with 1 white sofa, and a plant in a white pot. There is also an elevator that goes up to the other floors.
"What is this place?" says Vanessa.
"I don't know..." you say. "I wonder if anybody's home."
"Maybe we can go up on the elevator?" Vanessa suggests.
Suddenly, the door slams shut. "Oh no!" you exclaim, running over to it. [[ "It's locked! We can't get out!" ]]
"Well, since we have no choice, let's go up on the elevator." says Vanessa.
"Might as well..." you reply.
Both of you go over to the elevator and decide to take a look at every single floor. You find out that it has a total of 11 floors.
"Okay, floor no.2!" Vanessa presses the button and the elevator doors slide closed and you begin to go up. You here a //bing// sound as you reach your destination.
[[ The elevator doors slide open, revealing the second floor. ]]There is another window letting light shine onto the white walls and carpet. But this room is totally empty.
"It's empty." you say.
"Floor 3!" Vanessa presses the button and you go up yet another level.
[[ The doors slide open again, revealing another white room with a window. ]]There's a sleeping bag on the floor with somebody's backpack beside it. There's a few boxes stacked in the corner and a mini-refrigerator plugged in.
"Somebody lives here..." you whisper.
"Let's see number 4," she presses the button again. "All the rooms probably look the same, all white with a window."
[[ You go up another level. ]]When the doors slide open, both of you almost scream, but luckily held it in as you pushed your backs all the way against the wall. You see a mattress in the corner and a small boy sleeping there.
"Hurry, press another button!" you whisper loudly.
"Alright," she presses. [[ "Going up" ]]
The fifth floor had a small table and a mini kitchen with a stove and sink. The sixth floor was a bathroom that had 4 stalls and 4 sinks. The seventh floor had two brown couches, a black bean bag, and a projector. The eighth floor was some kind of room to store junk. There were a bunch of boxes and shelves and a lot of canned goods and sacks of something. The ninth floor was a bunch of shower stalls.
The tenth floor was astonishing. It was some kind of control room. There were two leather seats in front with many controls and buttons. There were also 6 other seats, complete with seatbelts and additional buttons and controls.
"It's like a spaceship!" says Vanessa.
"We got one more floor to go" you say. "Take us up!"
[[ Vanessa presses the button and you ascend to the eleventh floor. ]]
You both got off the elevator and find this room is the most grand.
The curtains are black velvet, the floor is hard wood, and there are many mattresses and sleeping bags all around the room, and a whole box of dried food and a closet of clothes.
"I think we've stumbled upon somebody's house..." you say.
"Cool looking house." comments Vanessa.
"Look out from the window," you say. "Look how high we are!"
"Yeah!" says Vanessa. "Who knew 11 floors would seem so high?"
You can see a marvelous view as you look all around the desert. The sand is dry and dusty and the sun is bright. You have a smile upon your face as you enjoy yourself being up here and looking down there. [[ But the smile soon fades as you see somebody coming. ]]
"Who's that?!" Vanessa exclaims.
"I don't know!" you say. "I think he's the guy who owns this place"
"Look!" Vanessa points. "I see two more...and a robot."
"We gotta get out of here!" you run into the elevator. "Come on, Vanessa!"
"What are we going to do?" she panicks.
"Let's go on the second floor," you suggest. "That room is totally empty, remember? We can hide there until they're gone."
"Alright," Vanessa pushes the button. "Going down!"
[[ You quickly descend to the second floor. ]]You look out the window and see the people and their robot enter. "Please don't go onto the second floor, please..." you keep saying.
You hear the elevator go up, but it's passed your floor. Both of you take a deep breath and release a sigh of relief.
Suddenly, there is a loud sound. Everything starts shaking, and both you and Vanessa fall off balance. You try to look out the window, but can't see anything past a huge gust of dirty wind. [[ And then, you feel as if you're on a rollercoaster taking off. ]]
Vanessa starts screaming. You put your hand over her mouth, telling her that they might hear. She nods and calms down, and you take your hand off her mouth.
It feels as if you've come to a stop now. You look out the window and find you are somewhere else now. It still looks sort of desert-like, but you see a cobble stone road. That wasn't there before. And there's even some grass. It looks dry and crunchy, but there's scattered patches of it everywhere. The lighting is a little different too. It looks more like nearing sundown.
"What do we do now?" says Vanessa.
"We have to get off this thing!" you say.
"They might catch us!" she says. "What if they aren't friendly?"
[[ It's probably a good idea to just wait until these people leave ]]

"Hmmm..." Vanessa nods. "Good point."
"Come on!" you grab your friend's hand and get into that elevator, setting it to go down. You quickly dash out the doors and escape that ship. But now that you're off the ship, where do you go now?
"I think we should follow that cobblestone road," Vanessa points. "It's bound to lead to a gas station or something."
"It appears to be the only..." you quickly look around first before making that the only option you have right now. And apparently, it //is// your only option.
[[ "Okay, let's go!" you say. ]]
You feel frustrated, tired, and on top of that, hungry. You sit down on a piece of rubble and search through your backpack and pull out a pudding snack. Marissa still continues to search as you satisfy your sweet tooth.
"Hey look!" Marissa pulls something from under the rubble. "I found something!"
"What is it?" you ask.
"I don't know," she hands it over to you. "Here."
You analyze the thing that your little sister has just handed you. It doesn't look ancient at all. In fact, [[ it looks like something from your world! ]]It's a baseball with Grandpa's signature on it. You remember your dad telling you a bedtime story when you were very little about a young college student who lost his dad's baseball in another world. You don't remember a lot about the story, but it was a wonderful fantasy and it became your favorite story to hear before you went to bed.
//"Didn't you lose Grandpa's baseball?" you had asked him.
"Yes," he replied. "It sort of inspired the telling of this story. That baseball was very special to me, because it belonged to my dad. Unfortunately, I lost it."
"Where did you lose it, Daddy?" you asked.
"Honestly, I don't know..." he replied. "I probably would still have it if I did."//
After that memory had flashed through your mind, you are shocked to realize someone //has// been here. [[ "This is the baseball Dad lost when he was in college!" ]]
"Daddy is here?" Marissa tilts her head.
"No," you reply. "Dad has been here. He used to tell me a story about a college freshman who somehow ended up in another world. He lost his most prized possession, his father's baseball. And while wandering in a strange desert, he gets transported into a dying world with a kingdom in need, and he saves it!"
"Ooh! What was the kingdom called?" Marissa asks.
"Ummm...I'm trying to remember..." you think for a moment. [[ "I think it was called //Rakeday."// ]]
//"Drake,"// Marissa says.
"No, Marissa, the kingdom was called //Rakeday."// you correct.
"I know," she says. //"Drake."//
"No, it was called..." you then realize something. "Wait a minute...//Rakeday.// That's Drake in Pig Latin!"
"Daddy was the one who taught me how to speak it." Marissa smiles.
"All this time..." you begin. "Dad was just telling me a memory..."
"What happened in the story?" Marissa asks.
"It's hard to remember," you reply. "I might remember more about it later on."
You both set up camp for the night. It took awhile to fall asleep, for the ground was very uncomfortable. [[ Eventually you get so tired you just doze off and begin to dream. ]]You dream of Dad telling you that story of the college freshman who saved the kingdom of //Rakeday.// A lot more is coming back to you, you can remember the story better. He meets a young woman named //Akira Layla,// who he would call Kiralay. At the end of the story, they get married. [[ Suddenly, you wake up and see a few lit lanterns. ]]
You see Marissa sound asleep next to you. You rub your eyes and look around and find you are not at the ruins anymore. Someone must have found you both and dragged you off somewhere else.
"Awake, I see." comes a voice. You quickly turn your head to see a man in a dark green hooded cloak sitting nearby.
"Who are you?!" you demand.
"Ruan," he replies. "Ranger of Drake."
"Why did you drag me and my sister to..." you look around and are not sure where you are. "I don't know, but why?"
"Are you not the children of Luna?" he asks.
[[ "Who or what is Luna?" you say. ]]
"She lives in The Valley Of Waterfalls, in the hidden city of Ryllaa." Ruan replies. "She had two children, and is dying to see them again. She sensed that they had arrived and sent me to find them."
Marissa wakes up and when she sees the strange man, she screams. You tell her to "shush" and then she shuts up.
"You must be Luna's children," he says. "I can see it in your eyes."
"Our mother's name isn't Luna!" Marissa shouts. "Her name is May!"
Ruan laughs. "Both of you ended up in the 'real world' somehow, and must've been adopted by the modern people of your world."
"You're not making any sense!" you say.
"You will understand once I bring you to her," says Ruan.
He then stands up. You see how tall and strong he is. He grabs both of you by the collar and throws you in the back of a carriage and locks it up. He jumps on the horse pulling on it, and you all start riding away. There must be some way out of this, but it might be too dangerous.
[[ Find a way to jump off the carriage ]]
[[ Maybe you should just sit back and see where he takes you ]]Jumping off would be too dangerous. You could get hurt. And you're really worried about Marissa. She couldn't handle such injuries. So instead, you sit back and wait 'till your destination is reached.
You wonder why this crazy dude thinks this Luna woman is your mother. And then that baseball you found....why was Dad here?
You had plenty of time to think of this while you were being taken against your will.
"Look!" said Marissa. "The waterfalls look beautiful"
"Huh?" you look over where she's looking and arm amazed yourself.
Suddenly, the carriage comes to a stop and Ruan pulls both of you out by the collar, just as he had thrown you in. [[ "To Luna." ]]
When you open it, a song begins to play. A familiar tune. Lyrics begin to appear in your head that goes with this song. It was something you remember your mother singing.
//In my heart this is where I belong
Still I must stay far away
Beyond the midst of the setting sun
Lies the hope lingering in the dark
Shadows may haunt the walls
And horrid sounds may steal the light
In my dreams so out of reach
Forever we are together//
[[ That song never made sense to you. ]]You heard her sing it all the time.
You didn't see your mother May that often. For some reason, she always had to go, leave to somewhere. Dad seemed very understanding.
The longest she ever stayed was two weeks, but that was it. And it was a great two weeks. Mom always seemed to be happy. But the night before the day she had to leave, she would shed many tears. You knew because sometimes you would hear sobbing noises from the bedroom. and you would peak through the crack in the door and find her crying on the bed. You also remember that sometimes Dad would leave for about a week or so every once in a great while. He never did say where he was going, just that he had to.
That song brought back a lot of memories about things you really didn't understand or think about that much. Now it's even more mysterious. Is your mom from //this world,// and somehow, she can only visit you during certain times or seasons?
"Look!" Marissa comes up and startles you. [[ "I found Mommy's sapphire flower broach pin!" ]]"Marissa, that's impossible!" you say. "How could Mom's broach be here?"
Suddenly, it finally occures to you. "Unless she's been here..."
You then look at the initials on the locket again. KM obviously stands for //Karah Mayla.// But the C....it stands for....of course!
Your dad's name starts with a C. His name is Carl!
[[ "Carl and Karah Mayla!" you say. ]]"That must be Dad and Mom! //Karah Mayla// is our mother!"
"Maybe we can ask Daddy about it?" Marissa suggests.
"But Dad wasn't transported to this world with us," you say. "I didn't see him anywhere this morning. He's probably still back in our world."
"How are we going to get home?" Marissa asks, looking up at you.
That thought never dawned on you. "Marissa...I really don't know. I'm not sure how to get out of here."
[[ Among the ruins, you find a really sturdy structure and unpack all the things you brought there, to make it more like home. ]]You find a nearby farm with many vegetables and fruits growing to provide you food. You've tried everything to get back home, but so far, no luck.
Several years have passed. Your litte sister, Marissa, is now 11 years old. Today is your 23rd birthday, and you are still living in the ruins of Drake. You wonder if the strip from your beloved hometown is still in this world, or if it has been returned. How your friends have changed and what they experienced. These thoughts are then interrupted by Marissa calling your name.
"I see someone out on the farm!" she says. "I have a feeling they are looking for us!"
[[ "They?" you wonder. ]]
You walk out of the structure you had proclaimed your home those many years ago and find a man on the farm. He's around your age and is overjoyed to have found you. "Hey guys!" he calls. "I found them!"
You then see two girls your age run over to him. All three of them run over to you.
[[ You take a step back, unsure of how to respond. ]]
"Remember us?" says one of the girls. "It's me...Vanessa. This is Julie and Levi. Don't you remember us? We're your best friends."
You can't believe it's really them!
You all hug each other and rejoice at seeing each other again. You can't believe they actually found you.
"We can go home now," says Levi. "We're going to be transported into our own world now. We wanted to come and get you. We've searched long and hard for weeks, and finally found you."
"Marissa!" you call. [[ "Grab our stuff, we can finally go home!" ]]
Marissa jumps in excitement and begins packing. You go with your friends and get transported home. When you tried to find your dad to ask him about the locket, he was nowhere to be found.
Perhaps he had left to the other world, never to come back, to finally be with Mom forever.
''Ending 1: Home''"Hello!" you call, lightly knocking on the door. You wait for it to open, but nothing happens.
You try again, "Hello!"
"Get out of here!" Vanessa pushes you aside. "Let me handle this!"
She begins to bang hard on the door. So hard, you're surprised her hands aren't bleeding. "Open this door!" she demands. "We're here to find a missing person and hear you can help us. Now open this door before I do!"
The door then swings open, and out comes a little blond-haired boy. He looks to be at least 7 years old, which means he must be younger than Dylan. [[ You can't help but laugh just a little bit. ]]
"Riker, at your service!" the boy takes a bow. "Who is it that you need help for me to find?"
"I have a question," Dylan began. "Why are you so young?"
"I might ask you the same question!" Riker replies. "But I know that you are as young as you look, while I am not. I am of the Shorty race. Do not laugh at the name. We remain as young as children in looks, but not in wisdom."
[[ "So how old are you really?" you ask. ]]
"89," he replies. "I'm still very young."
You and your friends all look at each other, wondering what that means. Perhaps the Shorties live for a long time. You all then focus your attention back at Riker.
"So," he begins. "Why do you need my services?"
"To find my sister, Marissa." you reply. "There was this loud sound, gust of wind, and I saw something in the distance. When the dust settled, it disappeared."
"We found her sweater!" Vanessa interjects. "Near the blast"
"Unfortunately, I myself do not know what had caused that," Riker says. "But I know of someone who does. He lives in the region of Lamps, in a small village known as Powder. I can take you to him, if you wish"
You think about the offer. This is your only way of finding your sister. But what if you take the long journey and find out this wise one knows nothing?
[[ Still, seeing this 'wise one' was your best bet ]]
[[ You ask Riker if there's any alternative option ]]

"What is it?" you run over to her.
"A sheet of very shiny metal," she replies. "Look, I can see my face in it, but the metal seems a bit warped."
You grab it from her and analyze the sheet of metal yourself. "This must be a piece from that thing I saw in the distance."
"What do you think it is?" asks Vanessa.
"A spaceship!" Dylan exclaims.
Vanessa rolls her eyes. "Excuse my brother, he's such a space nerd."
[[ "He might not be so far off" you say. ]]
"Something was here. It could have either blasted off or teleported. That must of been what caused the sound and gust of wind."
"Maybe we should have Roland analyze it," Dylan suggests.
"Who's that?" you ask.
"Oh, he's our uncle." Vanessa replies. "The reason why Dylan's such a space nerd. Anyway, he teaches science class. He used to work for NASA back in the 1970s. And in 1991, he began to work with computers."
"But we don't know if he got transported into this world with us," you say. "I've only seen people our age and younger."
"There are some adults lurking about, you know." says Vanessa. "Besides, it couldn't hurt to just check. If he is here, he's probably down in the basement messing with electronics."
[[ "Okay, we'll try to find your uncle and show him the piece of metal." ]]

After what feels like 30 minutes, you finally arrive there. The castle is much smaller than you'd expect. You wonder how you were even able to see it from that far. Perhaps 'cause there are no sand dunes or hills, and the ground is completely flat.
"Whoah...." says Marissa in awe. "The castle is black."
"Why would they choose that color?" you wonder. "Maybe they're evil..."
"They could just like the color." Marissa suggests. "Let's just go inside. I don't want to walk back, my feet hurt!"
[[ "Okay, okay, calm down!" you say. "We'll go inside" ]]
You take a deep breath and walk across the castle bridge that goes over a large ditch. You stand outside the glorious wooden gates.
"Okay Marissa, look for the winder that you wind to open the gates." you say.
"Okay!" Marissa runs around to search for the winder that opens up the gates. You hope that it's not inside or else you'll be stuck out here.
"Found it!" she shouts. "Come see, come see!"
You run over to her and see it there, ready to be wound. You wrap your hands around it, and with all your strength you try to push, but it won't budge. [[ "Help me, Marissa!" ]]
Even with her help, it seems to be no use. You keep trying, until finally, the gates burst open, you can go inside now!
You high-five your little sister and take her hand, walking through the gates and entering the grand castle. You stand and stare in awe as you enter. It's very dark in here, but it isn't dusty. The floor are made up of light gray and black stones almost like a checker board.
[[ Suddenly, the gates behind you slam shut. ]]You pull out a flashlight from your backpack and look for the winder. You find it, but see that it's broken. You and Marissa are trapped!
"We can't get out of here!" you yell in frustration, slamming your fist hard against the gate. You don't really realize the pain. You're just so frustrated.
"What do we do now?" asks Marissa.
"Let's just search the castle," you say. "If someone does live here, maybe they'll let us out. But if not, I don't know what we're gonna do. There could be another exit."
[[ You take your sister's hand so you will not lose her in this dark place. ]]You shed light with your flashlight to look around. There are so many passages, staircases, doors, and hallways. You're not really sure where to go. You open up one of the doors and find that it's a beautiful bedroom with a huge bed. The carpet is red velvet, and there's even a fireplace and a whole table lined with food. "Let's go inside!" says Marissa. "I'm tired and hungry!"
You look behind you and see a staircase spiraling upward, and you also see a hallway that seems to have some light. You are curious as to where those places may lead. You look back into the bedroom and see how comfortable the bed is, and how delicious the food looks. It seems so inviting, as if they were expecting you.

You tell him your name and your sister's. "We're kind of lost. You see, we aren't from here, and my sister wanted to explore, and now we can't find our way back home."
"Your clothes and hut do look strange," says Naw. "After we eat, we'll be leaving to our home of Lightning Cove. Care to join us?"

She is sort of strange. She loves to wear dark colored shirts and tight black denim pants or skirts, with black leather boots. She has the straightest hair you've ever seen that goes down to her shoulders. She wears absolutely no make up, but she is very pretty, and has just a slight pale complexion.
"Hey Nami" you say, approaching her. "Are you leaving with Vanessa and the others, too?"
She shakes her head. "No. I'm going my own way."
"Where are you gonna go?" you ask.
She shrugs. "Anywhere I guess. I'm sort of looking for some place. You wouldn't understand."
