Messages turn up over time, and disappear after a certain amount of time. (Refreshing)
Sometimes ACE will give you a message/mission. Sometimes your staff will too. Most of the time, it's messages from off-station
Once you accept a mission, it has requirements. At least one astronaut. Possibly some resources too. "Oh noes - famine on Mars - send food!"
Drag and drop (http://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml5_draganddrop2) to choose your astronauts.
Missions take time.
Missions should be somewhat surprising in their outcome. Need a mission debriefing.
Possible rewards - new 'special' people. (Bonus stats, famous, free, etc.)
Other rewards - unlock tech-tree buttons. Mystery ones!
Other rewards - Resources. (Note - need to unlock some huge or unlimited resource for this to work. Otherwise it'd be sad to come back to a full capacity.
Other rewards - special objects. Maybe a new outfit for ACE. Maybe space kittens. Maybe a drug that increases everyone's stats?
Other rewards - new resources. Unobtanium. Antimatter. Rhodium.
<--- Please note, these are temporary buttons. The game autosaves every 30 seconds.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF THIS ABANDONED GAME
I first started working on Space Station KL-1000 (KL1K, get it?) back in December of 2013 as an excuse to teach myself Javascript. I was ever so pleased with it at the time! :D Back then, I could turn a google document/drive folder into a webpage and Google would just happily host it for you like that, and that's how I hosted and tested it. Then around 2014 they stopped allowing you to do that with just google drive, so I stopped updating it.
As you can see below, I had plans<\i> for this - a mission system, consequences for failure, more interaction with the crew members, etc.
Still - there are quite a few clever little things I got to work in here - many of which I can't remember how they work but thankfully I labelled everything in the javascript and html files pretty extensively. That's all it is - html and javascript, no fancy plugins or extensions or anything. All just written in notepad.
I hope, if you go digging in the files, you find them useful and maybe inspiring for your own work.

Known Bugs
STILL No Consequences - Yeah, you can go to negative oxygen, food, energy etc. There are no consequences yet.
Refreshing the page with astronaut specialities will lose the bonus to clicking. Workaround: Remove the speciality (turn into generalist) and refresh page again. Sux
Any of this working on IE. This is lower on the list, but it is shameful that it breaks so horribly.
All non-solar-panel buttons refresh their images. This is inefficient and likely a huge draw on the server.
To-Do
Art. Oh crikey, do I need some proper art. Art for the astronauts, art for the space station and buildings. All the art!
Got a few of the tech tree button descriptions to update. A good task to do when I've got 5 minutes to kill.
Tidying up the buttons for buildings/batteries. Under the hood, everything but the solar panel button is reloading its image every time it changes state. That's just stupid and wasteful.
Make the specializations DO things. Right now, they just give you a pretty title and change the color.
Balancing for the tech tree.
More interesting costs for the various upgrades. Right now, anything that costs resource-per-second is far scarier to use than things with a one-off cost.
Consequences for running out of water, oxygen, food, etc. Perhaps a happiness/health stat for the staff that goes down once you hit zero.
Abiliy to recycle (sell) buildings
A mission system! Send your staff out in constructed spaceships to bring back resources, experience (in the form of training), new technologies and more.
Ability to fire staff?
Tech tree side panel needs cleaning up. The research button needs to go there, and the initiate button needs to be present.
Special events! Also, an autopilot mode that prevents special events at the cost of some productivity. Asteroid hits, solar flares, disease, employment boost, good growing year, etc.
Optimize for fun. That's for you, Sean :P

Research Clicks: I made my own tee-shirt for the game. I bought one for myself and the symbols were a bit high up, but it was fun. Yes, I'm a hopeless nerd to have literally made the tee-shirt of my game. I make no apologies!
