<p>A directional sign on the wall adjacent from your door shows general directions for other apartment room numbers.

<p>The 1st Floor elevators are further down the hallway, along with other apartment units.
<p>One of your Guardian's old neighbor friends, Mr. Townsend, is further down the hall, sitting slouched, his back against the wall. Looks like he's napping.
<p>The building's front doors are past the lobby. You are eager to feel the sun on your skin, but also hesitant to face the outside reality.</p>

<p>A collection of works from different "artists". Some contained dark imagery, others were just childish depictions of genitalia.
<p>Some writing was made out of spite toward the region's Senator. Rather frequent amongst the scribble. You forgot what her name was. Not a big deal.
<p>A gloomy statement carved into one segment, "WE ARE SICK. NEED A CURE."
<p>You admire some of the graffiti that obviously took alot of effort. One piece in particular contained a sunset, lush with red & purple hues, taking over half of the wall with vibrant palm trees placed along the "frame" of the sunset.</p>

<p>One particular woman near the corner of the courtyard is mumbling questionable things to herself while fiddling with her hands.
<p>The only exit out of the district was through a "checkpoint" gate, guarded by two enigmatic figures.

<p>What remains is a ghostly shell. The building itself was cracked and faded, from foundation all the way up to the top floor. All the windows were barred in, a large chain-link fence surrounded the perimeter with barbed wire across the top, covering the only sides of the property that the apartment building didn't cover already. Two strange figures guarded the only way in and out of the courtyard...</p>

<p>The last time you had that much fun, a politician came to gave a speech upon that same concrete platform. [[THE SENATOR]], of all people, came to our humble city, one that was suffering from unemployment & low morality. She promised us a brighter future, one with a large "business complex" being built virtually on top of the population's heads. This would lead to jobs and ultimately, "a better tomorrow for all".

<p>The residents, organic and mechanical, mingled together in a former playground park. Old steel pipes and chains sit like ancient monuments: a jungle-gym you fondly remembered as a child.
<p>You noticed a few stalls placed around the sidewalks along the park. Constructed with plyboard and metal pipes, they represented themselves as "shopping stalls".

<p>A skyline covered with skyscrapers and other tall buildings. This place once stood as a monument to the community.
<p>Most buildings remained abandoned, closed-up... Mostly from shops shutting down, but it was difficult to keep customers anyway, what with that toxic <i>stench</i> that occasionally brushed through the city.
<p>The community was still as lively as ever, although beaten & worn-down, the folks here still made a social life out of what remained. They gathered to commune, trade, befriend, or just passing through. They all remained in the streets, nestled together in waves & hoardes. No different than regular city life, you suppose.
<p>What was most shocking to you were the amount of Artificials living alongside the people. Some stood sentiently about like the others, but most here were unarmed, even engaging with the humans.
<p>A robot was sitting next to two civilians in the nearby park, having a casual conversation while people-watching.
<p>You watched a couple walk past, one female human and one Artificial, holding hands.

<p>The busiest corner in the district: So many patrons, human & machine-alike, partaking in trades, street shows, various social activities. The wave of mass chatter emits throughout the space, which is a much-needed change from the deafening silence elsewhere.
<p>Two residents were sitting off the curb, beating a set of upside-down buckets like drums. An Artificial was cooking over a fire-pit while a short line of humans waited their turn for a meal.
<p>There was so much positive energy in such a small space. It became surreal to you.
- A mini-food stand called "Quincy's" had no queue line. A hearty, bearded man waited behind his little stall counter.
- A quiet individual sat slouched on a stoop or what used to be a convenience store.

<p>Security is intense coming into close range of SimTech's center of operations. Ever since the "incident" last year, it's been difficult for civilians to even pass through.
<p>A couple of unarmed Artificials went down the boxcars, confronting each individual to confiscate any items they considered suspicious.
<p>They eventually reached you. You gave up everything except the clothes on your back... and the (text-colour:cyan)[REFERRAL], of course. One Artificial investigated the folded document before handing it back to you.

<p>You were thrown off a bit, but once the train's breaks started to screech, it brought you back to reality. The train slowed down to the next station and you quietly departed.

<p>People huddled together in all corners of this plaza, in their own makeshift tents & homes, huddled around fireplaces, old rags & clothing hanging out on clotheslines, entwined together like party garlands.
<p>It smelled of disease and exhaust, and some chemical odor considering the proximity of the Waste Sites.

This place must have been delicious back in the day, you thought to yourself, wonder why you haven't heard of this place until now.
<p>You manage to use the key through a second set of doors in the back, which led to a narrow alleyway that speared straight east, toward the outer banks of downtown and closer to the Industrial District. You choose to follow the provided path.

<p>The intersection opened up to a literal wasteland. SimTech has been very disposable with their spent resources, and have been careless to their dangerous actions.
<p>The streets were riddled with piles of waste, from scrap metal to old palettes, tires, barrels filled with questionable materials, cleaners/sanitizing chemicals littered amongst the rubble. A few rat corpses lay about the streets & sidewalk.
<p>A thick fog made visibility impossible up to the next block. This is as far north as you can physically go, as your eyes are already watered & irritated enough.
- A telephone booth sat on one corner, with the corpse of a "tall, slender, pale-lookin fella" resting along the sidewalk next to it. He wasn't wearing a respirator.

<p>Chemical dust & hellish infernos, hot enough to melt the strongest metals, painted the sky an ominous orange on top of the already gloomy, cloudy sky. The sounds of machines grinding, hammered steel, chains & other mechanical anomalies smothered your ears as you jumped off the fence.
<p>You look around. A central space; one that was encompassed by all the different sections of SimTech's operations, from the melting of recycled steel to surplus storage.
<p>Piles of broken, deformed Artificials lay in sequenced piles around the central yard. It looks like a metal massacre. A legless Artificial crawled slowly across the dirt mumbling something about a lost son.
<p>A severed, porcelain head close by you blurted words that were indecipherable to you.
<p>An upper torso of an Artificial, heavily damaged & malfunctioning, turned its head to you, humming a melancholic, distorted tune before uttering its last sound.
<p>SimTech showed no sympathy for either its customers or its products, you convinced yourself. Humans are manipulated, used and discarded just like the machines they create for everyone.

<p>Two Artificials stood watch up on the scaffolding, but they were too out of range to notice you.
<p>A small office steps from you is dimly lit. A dusty desk, computer, and some filing cabinets sitting inside.

<p>It's a creepy feeling, seeing dozens of robots with chilling smiles looking so statuesque.
<p>Several palletes of chemical drums were hoarded against the closest corner within the warehouse.</p>

<p>It's doubtful you would find anything useful in there. The labs have not been occupied since the takeover.</p>
