It's weird being in a place with people again, isn't it? Maybe it's weirder that I'm acting like you really went somewhere other than the chair at your computer where you already spend a lot of time. Maybe it's weirder still that I'm writing in the present tense which pretends I'm writing this as you're reading this which of course isn't happening at all. Theater is a lie-- I mean magic. Funny Her Her is a socially distanced, asynchronous, web-based experimental comedy hour exploring comedy as a practice in failure. Co-creators Taylor and Cynthia have mashed up, remixed, and remade mystory, comedy, song, and theory into their own image.
Taylor Dawson is ABD and doing her best to write that diss. She would like you to know that she has ordered Jimmy Johns 37 times this year and each time she spent about $15. That is equal to roughly $555 spent on Jimmy Johns just in 2020.
Cynthia Sampson is a recent PhD graduate who is just happy to be here. Her research explores audiencing and queer worldmaking. She loves explaining jokes whether they land or not, so don't be shy about asking.
We are indebted to Dr. Brianne Waychoff, Dr. David Terry, Anna Campbell, Ariel Kizer, Irina Kruchinina, Johanna Middleton, Drew Wallace, and the CMST 4200/7999 class. They have each helped shape this project in many different ways (literally and spiritually).

So that’s why I’m interested in $comedy. I’m also interested in thinking about politics as $comedy, by which I don’t mean delightful or funny in the easy Schadenfreude sense. I’m interested in the $comedy dictum, which is that disturbance doesn’t kill you, it forces you to live on. The thing about trauma, as I always say to my Literature of Trauma students, is that it doesn’t kill you and you have to live with it. And that’s the thing about $comedy, too. The $comedy is that you get up again after you fall off the cliff, and have to keep moving. You have to live with the brokenness, and you have to live with surprise, and you have to live with contingency. And you have to live with the pleasure of not knowing, if you can bear it. But how you have to live with it is another story.
$comedy is a lot about the question of whether you can bear it, in a way that tragedy isn’t. Because in tragedy the world can’t bear you. (10) (click-goto: '(10)', 'citations')

You might've already noticed the arrow looped in the corner up here on the left. That's the built-in back button. It can be handy if you click something and end up somewhere you don't want to be.
However, it won't help with any repeating sounds. While every sound in this show either turns off on its own or has designated text to { (link-repeat: 'click to shut it off,')[(track: 'crowd', 'stop')] } it might not be as readily identifiable as you'd like.
Should you find yourself in a noisy situation unsure of how to get out, look for the Reset button. It will either say "Reset" or "🔄" and will give you the option to start over. And I do mean over.
