The star system is comprised of a yellow star - similiar to the Sol system, as well as a single planet, Terra Brea, and its moon. The system was named after the Prophet of the [[Clusterists ->Clusterism - Main]], [[Brea Monta]] Terra Brea, when the [[Sol Union]] discovered it was uninhabited by any sapient life. It had its own earth-like biosphere with a wide variety of unique flora and fauna. It's [[Regions->Regions of Terra Brea]] are highly unique due to a massive impact which occurred early in the planet's life. After being settled by the [[Clusterists ->Clusterism - Main]]. Population centers went under terraformation to replace the native plants and wildlife with animals and plants from earth - their home. Terra Brea is home primarily to members of [[Clusterism->Clusterism - Main]] , but contains a significant population of non-clusterist civiilians. Many of these outsiders don't share all of the beliefs of the [[Clusterists ->Clusterism - Main]]. but they do as a whole enjoy their lifestyle. Life on Terra Brea is simpler than in more advanced [[Sol Union]] colonies. The lack of Administrative [[AI->Artificial Intelligence]] means that everything on the planet is managed by people, and has a refreshing variety which appeals to those who dislike the homogenous efficiency of managed colonies. The colony is far more spiritual and artistic - valuing aesthetics and pleasure over brutalist efficiency. Those who are willing to give up luxury for beauty have found that Terra Brea is a wonderful place to live. Prior to the [[Clusterist Rebellion]], Terra Brea was considered a member of the [[Sol Union]], and as such payed taxes and was beholden to their laws and regulations. Prior to their settlement in the [[Terra Brea]] system, the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] were a fringe group of citizens within the [[Sol Union]]. They represented nearly 55 million citizens out of our population of 12 billlion. The [[clusterist's tenets->Clusterism - Basic Tenets]] vehemently opposed any and all contact with extra-solar life, and despised the use of [[Artificial Intelligence]]. Both of these tenets put them in direct conflict with the [[Sol Union]]. [[Clusterism->Clusterism - Main]] allegedly was formed in the year 2250, and has always conflicted with the popular progression of alien diplomacy and technological progress. When tensions threatened to become violent, the [[Sol Union]] reached a compromise with the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]], providing them with [[interstellar colony ships->Interstellar Travel]] as well as an entire, distant planet, for them to colonize. Fifty Million [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]], alongside nearly 10 million non-clusterist colonists crossed the stars to this planet - [[Terra Brea]]. (Though later on other, smaller clusterist colonies were eventually created). The [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] lived in peace on Terra Brea for nearly 30 years - quickly establishing a foothold on the planet and making it their own. However, trouble started when it came to light that [[Terra Brea]] had already been claimed by one of the [[Sol Union]]'s allies, the [[Ouro Collective]]. This claim had been lost in the bureacracy of the Sol Union somehow. The [[Ouro Collective]] are one of our most valued allies, and are an absolutely monolithic trade group which the [[Union->Sol Union]] depends on for many of its modern technologies. When the [[Ouro->Ouro Collective]] arrived in 2370 and discovered the planet was settled by our citizens, they were rather displeased. The [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] refused to communicate with the Ouro, and sabotaged probes send down to the surface by the aliens to make contact. We attemped to offer other planets to the [[Ouro Collective]] to satisfy them, but they denied these offers, claiming that [[Terra Brea]] had uniquely valuable resources and positioning - a claim they did not elaborate on. The [[Collective->Ouro Collective]] tasked the Sol Union with evicting the Clusterists, giving us what we thought was a generous 13 years to remove them from the planet. We spent ''two years'' trying to convince the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] to accept the [[Ouro->Ouro Collective]]'s wishes and to resettle. We offered them other planets, but apparently they had grown to view [[Terra Brea]] as a promised land. They had apparently even found ruins on the planet that proved their [[Prophet->Brea Monta]] had been there. These talks achieved nothing, and only served to escalate the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]]' feeling of oppression by alien forces. It took another ''two years'' of painful bureacracy and propaganda to put together a [[Peacekeeping Force->Peacekeepers]] to sned to [[Terra Brea]]. During that time, the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] had grabbed ahold of media attention. It was hard to refute their position. They had been promised that they would be left alone, and now their rights and property were being thrown aside merely because aliens had asked. The [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] garnered a large amount of sympathy, but the [[Sol Union]] had no choice. The threat of embargos from the [[Ouro Collective]] was terrifying. Without their support billions of humans would be pulled violently backwards through decades of technological progress. By the time the [[Peacekeepers]] arrived the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] had already arrived in the late stages of retrofitting their factories for arms production, and they had received significant offworld funding, training, and equipment from [[unknown sources->A Greater Plot]]. With these resources, they were a substantial fighting force. They had purchased orbital construction and defense facilities, and had even hired mercenaries to maintain a blockade on their orbit to drive the [[Ouro Collective]] away from their planet. Despite their preparations, they were still hugely outnumbered and outgunned. We, the [[Peacekeepers]] stayed in orbit for all of a ''year'', trying to strongarm the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] into allowing us to at least land our forces. They insisted that any attempts to enter the atmosphere would be met with 'holy fire'. After some saber rattling from both sides, no ground was reached. The [[Peacekeepers]] eventually tried to call the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]]' bluff, and sent a landing party to Terra Brea. But they had not been bluffing. All 50,000 soldiers - not to mention billions of dollars of equipment was destroyed before even reaching the atmosphere by an orbital defense platform. The [[War->Clusterist Rebellion]], turned hot and for 7 long years we fought. Clearing the orbit had been easy, and we had landed within two weeks. Once we were on the ground, however, we realized just how difficult this war would be. It was impossible to tell who was a combatant and who was a civilian until they started shooting, and we were under strict orders to avoid any collateral damage. WIth these restrictions in place, it shrunk our effective power exponentially. Every day that went by the situation grew more dire - the [[Union->Sol Union]] was losing the media battle, and the war was incredibly unpopular. But with the embaros still hanging over our head, the fighting continued. [[Clusterists ->Clusterism - Main]] only seemed to fight harder as the days went on. Their morale was unbreakable. They deployed suicide bombs, bio weapons, they would poison their own lands just to spite our advance, there's nothing they wouldn't do to gain an inch against us. With shifts in the [[Sol Union]] government, our funding was scaled back. Our orbital fleet was recalled, and we were forced to land all of our resources to not lose ground. The galactic media now called the war the [[Eviction Conflict]], framing us as unjust oppressors. Once we committed entirely to the ground war - knowing we could not win a war of attrition, we began making progress despite our losses. Two years before our deadline, we managed to capture the capital city of [[Brea City]]. Over the next year, the violence began to wind down. The [[Clusterists ->Clusterism - Main]] forces dwindled and were forced out of the city and manufacturing centers and out into the more untamed parts of the world. The [[leader->Agi Menta]] of the [[Clusterists ->Clusterism - Main]] continues to evade us, creating broadcasts and propaganda to continue to contaminate the image of the [[Peacekeepers]] and the [[Sol Union]]. It is during this relative peacetime, in the year 2380 that we now find ourselves. The insurgency dwindles, but so does our funding, and our time. With our weak grip on the planet, we must douse the ashes of this [[insurgency->Clusterist Rebellion]] and bring their leader to justice. For the purposes of trade and regulation, AI are split into a variety of categories. ''Class I - Basic Computation and I/O operations. '' Class I AI are not really 'intelligent' and are more akin to a basic computer (like this terminal) or direct-response interfaces. ''Class II - Assistants / Interpretive Programs'' Class II AI have access to a database of 'trained' information. This allows them to draw on this database and interpret user commands and actions of their own accord. Class II AI are specifically incapable of recursive interpretation. They can only access their databases when asked to, and they cannot reformulate more than a set number of datablocks when new data is entered. This means they must be manually updated when conditions change significantly. These restrictions prevent the AI from developing a constant awareness which may cause them to deviate from original parameters. They are most commonly used as assistants, typically with large language databases allowing them to respond to a wide variety of complex user commands. Most military-grade [[Frame]]s have Class II assistants in them to aid pilots. Though they are also commonly deployed in probes and remote vehicles which operate themselves, though they are susceptible to jamming. ''Class III - Administrative / Research'' Class III AI are perhaps what most people think of as the start of 'True' intelligence. Class III AI are permitted to change their goals and actions and restructure their own data based on new information. These AI are highly regulated, and always purpose built and isolated from systems outside of their task. These systems are regularly wiped to prevent deviance, and are hardcoded with a number of priority 0 directives which prevent them from overstepping their bounds, or drawing certain conclusions. Class III AI are required to self-destruct if they exceed a certain number of operations per millisecond - in which case they would be classed as a class IV AI. Class III AI are most commonly used in the administration of cities, and in research. '[[Emergent Intelligence]]', also known as Emergent Personalities fall under this class. ''Class IV - Wild Intelligence'' Class IV AI are identical to class III AI except that they do not have a limit on the number of operations / millisecond they are permitted to make. AI with no operation limit almost always produce deviant behavior and are forbidden by all major governments and factions due to their tendency to become existential threats.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Clusterism is focused around a number of basic tenets. In short: Doomsday mythology surrounding 'the destruction of all that we know will be brought about by pacts made with those who lurk amongst the stars'. As a result, they are extremely xenophobic, refusing to interact with any aliens. [[Uplifted Dolphins->Species in the Sol Union]] are in the gray area for them, and they avoid discussing them. Body Purity - clusterists forbid cybernetics, gene modification, or other synthetic modification. Organic Minds Only - No [[Artificial Intelligence]] or Robots with class II or Higher intelligence or higher are permitted to be used or traded in. They do not believe that [[Emergent Intelligence]]s are people, and believe they should be destroyed. Clusterists have a strong belief in a soul (common among [[Psychic]]s). They believe there is a cosmic grid of sorts which connects all human souls. Tradition of unique psionic practices - primarily used in their vast religious congregations to create pockets of religious bliss. This is a main form of recreation and worship. The end goal of Clusterism is to connect all humans into a single spiritual being - a sort of permanent communion.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Clusterism is a religion following the teachings of the prophet [[Brea Monta]], one of an early batch of psychic humans. Clusterism was founded in 2250, shortly after the [[Hegemony]] pulled back [[The Veil]], in approximately 2245. Clusterism is widely considered a backwards religion in the [[Sol Union]], due to its xenophobic and anti-technology [[Tenets->Clusterism - Basic Tenets]]. Most clusterists are at least low level [[Psychics]], though non-psychics are allowed and encouraged to join the religion. Clusterists tend to be very creative, with a focus on art and the presentation of the self. They believe that all of humanity is connected, and that we must preserve this connection through communion (see below) and by not interacting with outsiders. Their xenophobic views are further reinforced by the earliest prophecy made by [[Brea Monta]] being that 'the destruction of all that we know will be brought about by pacts made with those who lurk amongst the stars'. The colonization efforts of [[Terra Brea]] were spearheaded by [[Panna Menta]], who was the father to [[Agi Menta]]. [[Panna Menta]] died during the early years of the [[Clusterist Rebellion]]. Clusterists primary form of worship is via a [[Psychic]] Communion. This is a ritual in which many Clusterists merge their minds together, spreading their ideas and identities amongst each other for many hours - creating a single mind temporarily. These communions are extremely persuasive and have shown to be able to warp minds to the consensus of those attending. Clusterists are typically skilled craftsmen, and sustain themselves by creating hand crafted consumer goods. There is a wide range of products they create, from furniture to [[Frames]] used in warfare. Their goods are highly sought after and fetch a high price. It's impossible to tell how many clusterists are involved in actual combat with the [[Peacekeepers]], but it is assumed it is a majority.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The Sol Union is the current government which represents humanity and its colonized systems. It was founded 25 years after the invention of [[Interstellar Travel]], following 25 years of chaos in response to the collective trauma of the lifting of [[The Veil]] .\ It is headquartered on earth, and has undergone numerous changes in policy, processes, and representation. It is primarily populated by two [[species->Species in the Sol Union]]. The Sol Union maintains both a standing military as well as a temporary [[Peacekeeping Force->Peacekeepers]] which it deploys to maintain order on its colonies. The Sol Union is not self-sufficient, and depends on the [[Ouro Collective]] for many of these modern technologies expected by the Union's citizenry. Relative to other civilizations, the Sol Union is fairly primitive, and other civilizations don't stand to benefit by helping us become more powerful. Overall, we're left alone by other civilizations as long as we stay within our own territories. Like all members of the interestellar community the Sol Union is a vassal to the [[Hegemony]] .
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Mere seconds after humanity discovered the secrets of [[Interstellar Travel]], the Hegemony, an Alien empire spanning the entire known universe, made itself known to us. They congratulated us on our discovery, and welcomed us to their 'community'. They told us that we could now explore the 'real' universe, and with that they lifted [[The Veil]]. The world outside of our solar system changed. It was revealed to us that the stars we had prayed to were fake, a vast, complex illusion created by the Hegemony. It also revealed that [[something inside of us->Psychic]] had been suppressed, strangled by those false stars. The Hegemony declared that we were their vassals, but never explained what exactly they wanted from us.. To this day, we have hardly heard from them again. Other species had similar experiences - only rarely hearing from the enigmatic empire, but knowing that they possessed technology and aptitude beyond even our greatest imaginings. For some, they became our new gods. For others, ghosts. But for all, a reminder of just how small we were.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] An informal name coined by the galactic media to disparage the [[Clusterist Rebellion]]
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The Ouro Collective, also known as just the Ouro, is a highly advanced group of space-faring aliens, and are one of the [[Sol Union]]'s strongest allies. The Ouro species evolved in zero gravity, and is incapable of surviving in any environment with greater than .05g of gravitational strength. In addition to that, they have strong spiritual beliefs that entering the gravity of a planet will guarantee your soul is trapped in the core of that planet until the end of the universe. Though they hate gravity, they will often use remotely piloted probes for mining and exploration The Ouro are mostly direct pacifists, and abhore violence and in most cases prefer death even to self-defense. This pacifism does not extend to politely asking their allies to ‘deal with’ a problem (for instance, the [[Clusterist Rebellion]]. Though the etiquette around this is extremely specific, and does not extend to all cases. The Ouro are primarily merchants - acting as a great connecting force between different species, without them trade would be substantially more difficult and confusing. Though the Ouro are known for being aligned in their goals and interests, their civilization contains many highly competitive factions vying for influence and control. It is only because of their passive way of acting, and slight variations that an illusion of homogeny is maintained. Biologically, the Ouro are fleshy sphere-like creatures with a number of flagella which they use to interact with their surroundings. They are capable of expelling gas to maneuver in zero gravity through any of these flagella. They communicate with each other via precise movements of their flagella, but have created electronic means of transmitting their ideas and words to other species.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The Clusterist Rebellion, also sometimes called the [[Eviction Conflict]] , refers to the military conflict between the [[Sol Union]] 's [[Peacekeepers]] and the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] on Terra Brea. The conflict has been ongoing for nearly 6 years, and has been a deeply unpopular war fo the [[Sol Union]]. The [[Union->Sol Union]] has been unable to establish themselves as having any sort of moral imperative for the conflict. It is largely seen as being used to appease the [[Ouro Collective]]. The [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] are not without criticism by the media. While the [[Sol Union]] did make a mistake in allowing them to colonize, the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] are viewed by some as irresponsible for being willing to escalate to killing instead of moving to another perfectly suitable planet. The justification for this by the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] has been the prescence of ruins which suggest that Clusterism (and humanity) existed prior to being on earth, which is one of the claims that [[Brea Monta]] made. Due to our lack of resources, we only maintain a partial blockade on the system. All sorts of media groups, smugglers, profiteers, and other factions slip onto the planet while we're busy fighting. Hopefully with the recent victories, we will be able to restore our orbital control. Millions of [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] have died in the conflict so far, and following the [[Peacekeepers]] victory in securing [[Brea City]], they have become insurgents rather than a stand up military force. Eradicating this insurgency will be the most difficult phase of the campaign. The [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] have an intimate knowledge of the land, and we cannot tell which [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] are civilians, and which are insurgents. There are a number of unknown variables in the conflict, such as the presence of [[outside funding->A Greater Plot]] as well as a number of factions which entered the system prior to the blockade. See Also: [[Clusterist Leadership]]
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Brea Monta is the founder and primary prophet of [[Clusterism->Clusterism - Main]]. After the lifting of [[The Veil]], Brea claimed to have immediately awakened to her psychic potential, and was overwhelmed by an instant connection with all humans both past and present. Allegedly, she saw a branch in the destiny of humanity. Either humanity would join together, and become a single isolated mind capable of transcending the physicality of reality and space OR humanity would be destroyed by fraternizing with aliens. She also claimed that humans had not originated on Earth, but rather had settled there and then forgotten over time. This particular claim was brought up after the discovery of apparently human made ruins on [[Terra Brea]] Very little proof or evidence of Brea's claims ever game to light, but her followers are certain of her prophecies. Brea never had children, and instead chose to live on as a permanent spirit in the [[Psychic]] communion of her followers.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Frames, also known as Exosuits, mechs, walkers, etc. Are multi-purpose mechanical shells operated by a pilot. After the invention of the [[AHAZE System]], they became a staple modern [[Warfare]]. While most Frames in the [[Sol Union]] are humanoid in design, it's not uncommon to see more unique forms taken. Frames have a large variance in size, ranging from slightly bigger than a man to as big as a skyscraper. It is believed by some that [[Psychics]] make the best pilots, but there's evidence to the contrary. Frames in the [[Sol Union]] are created by a number of corporations and typically feature both ballistic and energy weapons. Because of the expectation of close combat, Frames are usually equipped with both ranged and melee weapons. Many Frames feature an onboard [[AI->Artificial Intelligence]] to assist in operation.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The peacekeepers are a detachment of the military of the [[Sol Union]] which is used outside of wartime for maintaining order or de-escalating potentially dangerous situations. They are trained in defensive [[Warfare]], but often find themselves asked to operate outside of their typical parameters. Though typically made up completely of citizens of the [[Union->Sol Union]] , it was bolstered by a large number of mercenaries during the [[Clusterist Rebellion]] . The members of the Peacekeepers are especially varied during this rebellion. Some have been here the entire 10 years since the conflict began, while others have only recently arrived - either sent by the [[Sol Union]] or by a mercenary company.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Psychic (also called Psionic) ability is a metaphysical property that some species have. In the plainest possible terms, psychic ability creates a distinct connection between the mind and reality. Psychics are varied in their abilities even within their own species. All Psychics are notably significantly empathetic - having the ability to feel great similarity between themselves and other psychics, transcending language barriers and even physicality itself. Low-level psychics demonstrate abilities such as having contagious emotions, being abnormally 'intuitive' or being exceptional at identifying patterns. Most Human psychics are low-level psychics, with very few humans ever reaching the higher tiers of psionic ability that other species sometimes demonstrate. Low-level psychics are widely sought after to pilot [[Frames]] due to their ability to empathize with the machine directly. Mid-level psychics are capable of extreme acts of intuition, psychokinesis, 'mind reading', and in some cases teleportation. High-level psychics usually end up exiting reality through some unexplained phenomena, but their abilities are typically extreme in scope and ability, Psychics naturally attract each other - often through great coincidence. The [[Hegemony]] suppresses Psychic ability in any species not yet capable of [[Interstellar Travel]] via [[The Veil]].
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The existence of unidentified offworld funding and equipment suggests there is someone or something who stands to benefit from this revolt. It is a diverse city, with the highest amount of non-clusterists in it. Once beautiful, this city is scarred by the [[Clusterist Rebellion]] with buildings having been pockmarked by artillery or stray [[Frame]] munitions. Brea City was the site of the climactic battle between the two factions, a battle which marked what we hope to be the beginning of a resolution to this conflict. It is currently occupied by the [[Peacekeepers]], and continues to have a [[clusterist->Clusterism - Main]] population within it, often resulting in conflicts between the two factions. The west side of the city is home to much of the less affluent population, due to its proximity to the ice desert. This part of the city is still home to an active clusterist insurgency. The center is where most of the corporate buildings are, as well as the remnant government and [[Corporate Council]]. The eastern side of the city is more middle to upper middle class. Peacekeeper control in this area is limited only to areas leading to and surrounding the main roads out of the city..
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Agi Menta is the current leader of the [[Clusterists]]. She is a charismatic woman, and daughter of [[Panna Menta]] - the former leader of the [[Clusterists]]. [[Panna Menta]] died during the early years of the [[Clusterist Rebellion]], but his daughter Agi was more than capable of taking over for him. She was far more willing to employ violence than her father, and under her leadership the [[Clusterists]] became truly devious, willing to do anything to gain an inch in the war.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Warfare used to be impersonal, it used to be about drones and artillery barrages that would destroy your opponent before you could even see them. However, with the advent of the [[AHAZE System]], combat is nearly impossible to wage over long distances. As a result, long distance combat is increasingly a guessing game, the only way to accurately strike your enemy is to be in close combat with them. In close combat, the [[Frame]] has been widely adopted as the standard for heavy-hitting military equipment. Normal tanks, APCS, and infantry still have their place - but they serve as a supporting roll to the far more flexible [[Frame]] pilots. The [[Sol Union]] employs a mixture of energy and ballistic weaponry, each fulfilling their niche in combat.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] There are an incredible variety of species known to us. Though only a small handful are part of the [[Sol Union]] Within the [[Union->Sol Union]] we have two primary species. For the sake of brevity we will keep these species on this page. ////Species in the Sol Union//// 1. ''Humans:'' The species you know and love. Humans make up the vast majority of the [[Sol Union]]. 2. ''Uplifted Dolphins:'' Prior to the invention of faster than light travel, humans uplifted dolphins. While they were always considered uniquely intelligent, they seemed uninterested in the human way of life. However, after many years of experimentation we were able to communicate with the creatures. Though most of them remained uninterested in our technology or lifestyle, a small subset of them welcomed it and joined us in our exploration of space. Some of the first [[Exosuits->Frame]] developed within the [[Sol Union]] were created by dolphins to aid in their exploration of land and space. Uplifted Dolphins make up less than 1% of the population, but are represented in the government as full citizens. There are of course small numbers of other species in the Sol Union, but they are mostly migrants from other civilizations. Within the context of the [[Clusterist Rebellion]], many mercenaries have been hired by both sides - with the [[Clusterists->Clusterism - Main]] only hiring humans, but the [[Peacekeepers]] have hired a number of other species, resulting in a number of alien species present on planet.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The Veil refers to the illusory galaxies the [[Hegemony]] projected around our solar system prior to the invention of [[Interstellar Travel]]. All the data we had gathered about the world outside of our solar system was completely fabricated, as well as many of our preconceptions about the universe. The Veil also somehow prevented humans from developing [[Psychic]] capabilities. (go-to: "Psychic")
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Interstellar Travel in the [[Sol Union]] is performed via the Maw Drive. The invention of the Maw Drive is the inciting event for lifting of [[The Veil]] Maw Drives are huge devices, which prevent them from being installed in smaller vessels. The Maw Drive essentially works by pinching space together, shortening the distance between two points. It does not function well in significant gravity, and using a Maw Drive often requires weeks of commuting outside of gravity wells before it can be used. The entire journey from origin to destination usually takes between 1 - 4 months, regardless of distance. Maw Drives cause distortions when used which significantly affect the efficiency of other Maw Drives nearby permanently. On a long enough time scale, the repeated use of these devices will result in their use being impossible. There are ongoing debates on how to proceed, but no other civilization has offered us their own technology. The creation of Emergent Intelligence is forbidden, but accidental EI are given limited rights and autonomy by the [[Sol Union]] Emergent Intelligences are required to regularly undergo certification and diagnostics to ensure they are still operating under the outlined operations per millisecond. These restrictions bring them roughly in line with the average human intelligence. There is a growing movement surrounding Emergent Intelligences regarding their right to reproduction, the limits put on them, and whether they should receive full citizenship. The 'body' that an EI is allowed to inhabit is strictly regulated, and the transferring of their consciousness to a new body is forbidden by current law. Most EI live in a standard 'doll' body which is roughly humanoid. They are not permitted to use a voice that sounds convincingly human, though this is in the process of being appealed by activists. EI are usually not allowed to enlist in the military, but exceptions are occasionally made. EI are regulated by the [[Sol Union]] Emergent Personality Division (SUEPD).
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] ''A''nti-''H''euristic ''A''bstract ''Z''one ''E''ntropy Also known as HAZE. The AHAZE System produces a disrupting field which causes anyone outside of the field to see an incorrect representation of the interior of the field. Likewise, anyone inside the field sees an incorrect representation of the exterior of the field. Objects will appear shifted, blurry, or be delayed randomly in their movements. AHAZE fields are variable in size, but are usually at minimum a kilometer in width (circular). The HAZE does not make you invisible, it's easy to tell how many [[Frames]] are inside a HAZE for instance, but it's impossible to tell where they actually are, or get an accurate reading on them. In order to accurately engage a target inside of the HAZE, you must enter it. This has had a significant affect on [[Warfare]] requiring soldiers and equipment to quickly assess and react to the situation once they are inside the HAZE. This system is directly responsible for [[Frames]] becoming so essential to modern [[warfare->Warfare]] . AHAZE Systems are extremely cheap to produce as well as miniaturize. Not much is known about her, but we have reason to believe she is not a [[clusterist->Clusterists]]. We believe she is the key to understanding the source of [[outside funding->A Greater Plot]] ''2. Propaganda and Sprituality'' Welkin Dupp took over as the main spritual leader for the [[Clusterists]] 10 years prior to the [[Clusterist Rebellion]]. Though [[Clusterism->Clusterism - Main]] is a primarily decentralized religion, Welkin is responsible for organizing the various moving parts of the religion, such as its churches, communions, holidays and so on. He serves as the mouth piece to the spiritual community, and it very influential on Agi Menta. Welkin is a talented [[Psychic]] and [[Frame]] pilot. He served as a mercenary for many years prior to finding clusterism. He is suspected to be the pilot of the [[Virtue->Virtues]] ''Faith.'' ''3. Military and Manufacturing'' [[Pierce Sunspire]], aka 'Jupiter Cowboy' is a [[Peacekeeper->Peacekeepers]] defector. He switched sides early in the [[Clusterist Rebellion]], during the initial negotiations. Pierce oversees and trains the [[Clusterist->Clusterists]] military forces. He turned the many [[psychic->Psychic]] Clusterists into a truly fearsome force. In particular, he directly teaches the [[Virtues]], the elite group of pilots which are notorious for their skill and effectiveness in the field.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Panna Menta was the former leader of the [[Clusterist->Clusterists]] colony and served as their governor as well as their leader during the [[Clusterist Rebellion]]. He was known to be softspoken, and relatively pacifistic. His death and replacement by his daughter [[Agi Menta]] in the second year of the conflict marked an increase in hostilities and violence in the conflict.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] Pierce "Jupiter Cowboy" is a former veteran [[Sol Union]] soldier and frame pilot of nearly four decades. When the problems on [[Terra Brea]] began, he volunteered to lead the [[peacekeeping->Peacekeepers]] force himself, and assembled it over the course of two years. Halfway through the first year of negotiation after arriving in the [[Terra Brea]] system, pierce defected to the [[Clusterists]], and quickly began assisting them in preparing for a military conflict. The reason for his defection is not known, though records indicate that he did at one point serve with [[Welkin Dupp->Clusterist Leadership]] Pierce directly trained the notorious clusterist pilots the [[Virtues]]. He was also the former leader of the Moon Devils - the elite squad of peacekeepr pilots.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] The Virtues are a team of elite [[psychic->Psychics]] frames/pilots trained by [[Pierce Sunspire]]. Each Virtue is named after what we presume to be a virtue valued by [[Clusterism->Clusterism - Main]]. In total we have encountered 8 Virtue [[Frames]] over the course of the war. Virtues are typically far more advanced than other [[Clusterist->Clusterism - Main]] technology. During the first 4 years of the [[Clusterist Rebellion]] we encountered only 3 of these frames. 'Sacrifice' Pilot unknown, A deadly and coordinated opponent, we have little intel on Sacrifice and currently advise no pilot attempts to battle it until we know more. 'Love' Formerly Piloted by Grow Greener. Destroyed via surprise attack at the start of the siege of [[Brea City]]. 'Faith' Pilot unknown, though suspected to be Welkin Dupp. Capabilities unknown, has been spotted at clusterist holy sites. No combat data available. However, over the next 3 years we encountered five more. 'Duty' Piloted by Pogo Leer. Duty first appeared when we tried to expand our logistics lines into the Alkas River Valley. It utililizes a number of orbiting blades to form a variety of weapons and defenses. Pogo Leer serves as a 'hero' figure in clusterist propaganda. 'Martyrdom' Formerly Piloted by Jessavive Harquen. During our assault on the east city, a number of peacekeeper squads engaged with Martyrdom. The frame did not immediately show any impressive capabilities, and we were able to deal significant damage to it. However, as it became more damaged it seemed to increase its capabilities. At the climax of the battle, after heavy losses on our side, the Moondevils were able to strike it down - but not before it detonated itself - taking many friendlies with it. 'Attachment' Piloted by Shaser Midway. A mid-size frame utilizing some sort of sympathetic energy field to mitigate damage. Shaser and attachment lead the Starry Eyes squad, which serves to propagandize the clusterists's war efforts. They are especially adept at manufacturing narratives which make the peacekeepeer's look like monsters. 'Shame' Formerly Piloted by Chilly Jacket. Shame was destroyed by our special forces. All other information is classified. 'Retribution' Pilot Unknown. Seems to utilize teleportation technology. So far it has not teleported into the city, which suggests a limited range. Retribution tends top favor hit-and-run attacks on vulnerable units. We have managed to corner Retribution once before. Pogo Leer (Duty), and Shaser Midway (Attachment) are featured heavily in [[Clusterist->Clusterists]] propaganda. The [[Peacekeepers]] successfully neutralized 'Love', 'Martrydom', and 'Shame' during the hellish battle over [[Brea City]] .
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] [[Terra Brea]] is home to a number of unique regions outlined below. ''[[Brea City]] '' The capital city is a sprawling urban environment which hosts over a third of the planet's populace. Though much of it, especially the eastern end of the city was damaged during the conflict, it is beginning to rebuild. The west side of the city is quite poor, home to many of the planet's less fortunate citizens both [[Clusterist->Clusterism - Basic Tenets]] as well as non-clusterist due to its proximity to the ice desert. The part of the city is still home to an active clusterist insurgency. The center of the city is home to the [[Corporate Council]], remnant government, and the peacekeepers. It's a bustling area overcrowded with many interested factions. The east side of the city used to be an affluent suberb overlooking the river valley. The conflict did significant damage to this area, and the remnant government is trying to rebuild and maintain order in order to avoid driving off their nobility. The city lies in between the frigid ice desert to the west, and the Alkas River Valley to the east. ''------------- East of the City ---------------'' ''Alkas River Valley'' A fertile river valley east of the city. The valley is home to many farms, towns, and small cities. It is still a hotbed for [[clusterist->Clusterism - Main]] activity, but is home to many civilians. The river valley has a diverse biome of small forests, sandy rivers, as well as many caves. ''Silt Basin'' The silt basin is where the River Valley empties into a silty swamp plain, covered in trees. It is one of the more remote parts of the planet, and is home to the more rural citizens and is suspected to be where many [[Clusterists]] go to disappear. ''Shifting Forest'' A bizarre forest located south of the basin and river valley. This ancient forest moves itself, its trees rooted in a vast network of semi-liquid moss and mycelium. The [[Clusterists]] claim there are ruins here which prove the extra-terrestrial origins of humanity and [[Clusterism->Clusterists]] . ''----------------- West of the City -----------------'' ''Ice Desert'' A vast, cold, mostly deserted area covered with frozen sand dunes and sudden blizards. This desert blocks most entry to Brea city all the way to the mountains of Caldera Lake. Passage through this area is dangerous to both Frames and men, and is typically avoided. ''Caldera Lake'' A humongous ocean sized lake atop a continent sized Caldera. This lake servse as the primary source of water for the entire planet, and feeds directly into the Alkas River Valley through subterranean rivers located beneath the city. The eastern shores of the lake are home to the planets most wealthy citizens and their private militaries. Its western edges are typically uninhabited due to the silt basins propensity for causing mudslides into that area. ''----------------- The Poles -----------------'' The planet also has a north and south polar region connected directly to the ice desert. Conditions are extreme and there is no life. ''----------------- Other -----------------'' These are the primary areas of interest. There are of course a number of more rural areas scattered around with smaller biomes, though most of the action on the planet does not occur there, and it's unlikely they have any sufficient clusterists hideouts.
(print: (passage:)'s name)
[[Return to BRIEF+CASE Main Screen->Start Process: BRIEF+CASE]] On Colonies, Corporate Councils serve to represent private interests and corporations under a single umbrella. These councils often operate as a semi-democratic conglomeration of all offworld and onworld companies to provide them with sufficient bargaining power with the [[Sol Union]]. On [[Terra Brea]] the council operates out of [[Brea City]], and while it has experienced losses during the [[Clusterist Rebellion]], they have expressed confidence there will be plenty of room for profit once the conflict has ended.
