Starship Rex

STARSHIP REX

A roguelike game developed over the span of 7 days for the 2013 7DRL Challenge.

You (@) are a robot on a starship en route to colonize the planet Laika, orbiting the red dwarf star Rouge.

Something technobabble has happened and now you must rescue living humans by taking them to the MedBay. Dead humans should be delivered to the Mortisserie. The 'creeped' humans should be shoved out the spacevents before they break out of their pods. Energy is scarce, so you will at times be forced to siphon energy to-and-from pods you're carrying to survive. This will happen automatically

Control your @-robot using the arrow keys or keypad. "Bump" into loose Creeps to attack them (costs energy). Bump into stasis pods to pick them up. Bump into MedBays, Mortisseries, and Spacevents to dump an appropriate pod into them (and perhaps reclaim some energy!).

The deeper you go into the ship, the more stasis pods (and danger) you'll find.

Fun fact: almost all the colonists are direct descendents of early-21st-century games, history, philosphy, and skeptical podcasters. You may recognize some names from podcasts like Giant Bombcast, Skeptics Guide to the Universe, Philosophy Bites, Roguelike Radio, Gamers with Jobs, Stuff You Missed in History Class, Hardcore History, Retronauts, and various 1-Up (2005-2013) podcasts.

Code by Ed Stastny, with some core RL library elements supplied by rot.js. If you'd like to read more about the development of this game, see the dev blog at 7DRL.org, or catch up with Ed(@Starstew) on Twitter.
