“A thousand years have passed, and a thousand more shall follow. The darkness will spread, and with it calamity follows, looking for the perfect vessel to wreak havoc upon the world.”
Into The Darkness is a dark fantasy game set in Shel-a'fhifhe, also called the Eye of the Sixth. There will be three acts that take place in the three continents: Elfhe'chol, Lapi'di Terrae, and Tir'an Toiseach (in order).
This is the first book out of three.
This game has many features, including:

◦ Exploring the bustling city of Elfhe’chol and the ruins in the desert beyond the city
◦ Discovering what lies beneath the floors of the Great Archives and in the walls of the Council and solve (or worsen) a political dispute that affects both inside and out of the walls of the city
◦ Choosing between many features to customize your Shadow including but not limited to horns, scales, tails and wings, as well as their name, pronouns and gender
Will you be able to discover the truth about the darkness, or will you succumb to its horrors?

Prologue
</div>
//The darkness is something that many people fear. Some are afraid of what could be lying in wait in the endless shadows, and some are scared of the vast darkness itself. They feel an underlying dread, a hole opening in their stomach as the blackness suffocates them. Some try to ward the shadows away with Magick and fire, while others embrace it, treating it like an old friend. Others are just indifferent to it, feeling no fear nor wonder when sitting in the shade. The one thing all these people have in common, despite these differences, is that they all understand the dangers that will come if night ever falls. They know better than to venture into the darkness.//
//''[[SLAM]]''//The book slammed closed, fingers drumming on the cover of it. A man let loose a sigh and rubbed his tired eyes. Day in and day out, he had been in his office, reading like his life depended on it, and in a sense, it does. The higher command had ordered him to research all he could about the darkness, but the only things he could find were little more than bedtime stories or fables.
Unlike other worlds, this one did not experience nighttime. The pupil always faced the sun, never looking away from it. Therefore, the darkness was seen as a threat; the shadows a stark reminder that anything could be lurking just out of sight. There was only one place the sun didn't reach however, and it was nothing more than a rumor: the back of the eye; the back of the planet. Nobody has been brave enough to discover if it even existed, so for now, the darkness was just a fable.
All of this was common knowledge to people such as xemself, yet the Council still demanded that it be researched. Xe rubbed xyr eyes and sighed.
“Nevertheless, it must be done,” he thought to himself, and took another book from the monstrous pile on his desk. The History of the Eyes, is what it was called, and he had to resist rolling his eyes. The book wasn’t bad, but it was very elementary in terms of research material. Xe was no child who was just learning about the Eyes’ history, but xe still opened the book. “Perhaps it may have something that I’ve missed,” he reasoned.
Looking at the first page, he was reminded of his childhood, but quickly shook out of his reverie and started reading.
[[Next|The History of the Eyes]]//Within this book, you will discover the history of our world, our Gods, and our livelihoods. We are the people of the Earth, the children of the Sand, nourished by the Sun, and we were put on this world as bearers of ancient knowledge. We bring the light to stave off the darkness, and take the darkness into ourselves to preserve the light of the Earth.//
His eyebrows rose up to his forehead and he squinted, analyzing this passage more closely. “Take the darkness into ourselves..?” he thought, slightly perplexed. He looked back over the text, wanting to study it more closely.
//[[Creak]]//A servant walked into the room, bowing apologetically when they realized how busy xe was.
“Ah, a hundred apologies, Ha’sha-Kil,” the envoy said, concern etched on their face.
“It’s alright,” the man replied, waving away their unease, “is there something you needed, Ma’Khal?”
The envoy nodded, stepping into his office. “Yes, the Councillors called for you.”
The man rubbed his eyes and sighed, then shooed the envoy out. “Thank you, you may leave now.” The envoy bowed slightly and walked out, leaving xem alone. Xe leaned back in his chair, internally debating on if xe wanted to answer the summons, but knew he had no choice.
“One does not refuse the Councillors,” he muttered, and stood up, rubbing his eyes one more time. The door creaked open as he left the office, and then made his way through the winding halls. The smooth stone stairs echoed against the carved sandstone walls with xyr each step. Finally, he arrived in front of an ornate entryway, leading to spiraling stairs that led up, up, up, until he reached a spacious vestibule, decorated with colorful marble reliefs. Xe continued through, walking with long-legged strides, until xe reached the main room: The Chamber of the Five Eyes. He still remembers the first time he was called by the Councillors: the fear, anxiety, and dread that he felt that time, and now here he is, one of the Eyes. A soft, silvery voice echoed throughout the room and snapped xem out of xyr trance.

Fhaer dress flowed behind fhaem, fhaer skin changing colors when the light hit fhaem a certain way. Fhaer hair was up in an afro and glowed almost as bright as the sun, framing fhaer face like a halo. Purple and gold swam in fhaer eyes, shimmering and sparkling when fhae looked around, and right now, fhaer gaze was on him.
He gave a respectful bow and looked at them. “A hundred apologies for being late, Ochefh-Chol’sod.” The elfhe chuckled and glided over to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. “It is alright, a’Khav, we have not been waiting long.” He nodded, feeling slightly embarrassed, to which Ochefh-Chol’sod gave a comforting smile. “Come, Hemesh-Chol’sod demands your presence, and we do not want to keep them waiting lest they destroy the whole Council.” The man chuckled and nodded, following fhaem as they trailed through the back halls.
After much wandering, they had finally arrived at their destination: a room, hidden behind a painting of the first Councillor. Xe had never known this room existed, and looked on in surprise when Ochefh-Chol’sod suddenly revealed it. Stepping into it, he spotted the other three Eyes, but looked towards the one who supposedly “demanded his presence.”
“What took you so long, Himallah-Chol’sod?” the elfhe asked, their voice stern like an upset parent. Even after all these years, he still felt like a child in their presence. “A thousand apologies, Ha’sha-Kil. I didn’t mean to make you wait.” The elfhe waved their hand in dismissal, rolling their eyes. “It doesn’t matter, at least you’re here now. Come with me, there is something I must show you.” Hemesh-Chol’sod turned on their heel and started walking towards a door that shimmered ever so slightly. //"A magickal barrier, designed to keep people out… or keep something in,”// Himallah thought to himself, feeling a creeping sense of dread as they got closer. Hemesh-Chol’sod glanced at him, eyebrows furrowed, and took down the barrier.
[[Creak|Creak 2]]The door opened on its own, creaking ominously, and inside the room was pure darkness. The stone walls seemed to bleed with a black liquid, dripping onto the floor and dissipating into smoke, blending into the surrounding gloom. The cell seemed to be closing in on itself, yet also expanding into the infinite. The room was as still as the night sky, except for a small amount of movement located in its corner.
Himallah looked over at Hemesh-Chol’sod, who was biting their lip, seeming almost anxious just being inside the room, and xe suddenly felt all the more frightened. If Hemesh-Chol’sod felt nervous, then this thing, this darkness, was truly something dangerous. Xe was able to push xyr anxiety down, thinking, or perhaps hoping, that the Eye was just being paranoid and this was simply an error, a crack in their realms. It would not be the first time it had happened and all the other cracks sealed themselves up eventually, doing little to no harm on the earthen realm. However, even he couldn’t deny that this felt different, somehow. Like something came through the crack, something that they couldn’t see nor hear.
And inside the darkness, something was watching, waiting. The time was near, and it needed to act soon. If it didn’t, then all it had worked for would be lost. It could not let that happen. It would not let that happen. Its plans were set in motion, and with them, so had something bigger; something much more powerful. Something that would destroy. Something that would bring life.
//It is coming for you.//
Himallah blinked rapidly, and suddenly air rushed into his lungs, leaving him out of breath yet choking at the same time. His mind raced and his eyes flitted around as everything blurred into one, he was dying, he couldn’t breathe, someone help, what’s happening, I’m dying, I’m dying, //I’m dying-//
“Himallah, snap out of it!” a voice yelled, and the world came crashing back onto him. He could breathe again, and he took in lungfuls of air as his eyes burned with tears. When had he started crying..?
“By the Five, a’Khir, what in the Gods’ name happened?” When he finally looked up, two blurry faces started becoming much more sharp, and he recognized Ochefh- and Hemesh-Chol’sod. “I… I’m not sure, I was just standing here, and then…” he stuttered, still attempting to recover from whatever had happened, and Hemesh-Chol’sod let out a frustrated groan. “Me’Khash akh’za-elatet, shake it off and tell me all you know!”
“By the Five, Hemesh, give xem a moment! Xe stared death in the eyes and you expect xem to be coherent? Let him breathe!” Ochefh-Chol’sod refuted, looking at Hemesh-Chol’sod incredulously. Hemesh-Chol’sod glared up at the other elfhe, sneering. They both maintained this tense atmosphere for what felt like forever but was only a minute.
“I am alright, my friends,” Himallah said, rubbing his eyes as he felt a headache approaching. Both pairs of eyes looked at him, one with worry and one with approval. Hemesh-Chol’sod nodded, straightening up as they regained their composure. “Good. Now, mind telling us all what happened?”
//[[Himallah let out a sigh and described what happened to the best of his abilities.|//Himallah let out a sigh and described what happened to the best of his abilities.//]]//“As I said before, I’m not exactly sure what happened. I looked into the darkness covering the walls, but when I looked at this one spot,” he motioned towards the general area he believed it to be in, “I blanked.”
Hemesh-Chol’sod nodded, stroking their chin in contemplation. “I see… is there anything else you can tell us?” Himallah looked towards Ochefh-Chol’sod, who gave xem a small, encouraging smile.
“After all of that, it felt as though time had stopped and like my very soul was being sucked into the darkness. I felt like I was dying, I couldn’t breathe, it was coming for me…” his voice trailed off as his eyes became glossy, and Hemesh-Chol’sod grabbed his shoulders, demanding him to continue.
“What is “it”, Himallah-Chol’sod? Tell us this instant!” Himallah flinched and looked at them, frustrated.
“I don’t know, Hemesh! It… it felt like it wasn’t an “it”, but an actual, living being! Like something came through the cracks, like it was watching me. Watching us! I don’t… I can’t…”
Ochefh-Chol’sod gently nudged Hemesh-Chol’sod aside, and placed a hand on Himallah’s shoulder, squeezing softly. “Deep breaths, my friend, it’s alright.” Himallah inhaled shakily and nodded, leaning into Ochefh’s shoulder. They stroked his head, doing their best to soothe xem as xe trembled in fear. Hemesh took a deep breath and rubbed their face.
“There are reasons for my outbursts, Himallah, and one of them is that if what you say is true, then we are in grave danger.”
Himallah and Ochefh looked at him, and Hemesh rubbed their hands together as they stared thoughtfully out of a small window. Himallah stood back to his full height, not relying on Ochefh anymore, and tilted his head. “What do you mean, Hemesh?”
The golden man looked at them both, chewing on his lip, then looked away again.
“It means the cycle is about to start again.”
The glowing Eye looked at him, eyes wide and full of a mixture of emotions: shock, dread, fear, anxiety. The other glanced at both of them, confused and concerned. “What cycle? Ochefh-Chol’sod, what are they talking about?”
//[[Ochefh looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, then sighed.|//Ochefh looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, then sighed.//]]//“The cycle they speak about is what we call ‘The Ancient Cycle.’ We have little to no proof of this, but there are many whispers from history that hint at a sort of mass extinction cycle. It is believed that the darkness, once let loose on this world, takes all who it thinks worthy of becoming a part of its dark army. If you are not deemed worthy, you will simply perish and that will be that. Once the world is wiped out completely, the darkness retreats back to its realm and waits until a new civilization is created thousands of years later; until the cycle can be repeated again.”
Himallah let all this sink in as dread filled his being. “If what you are saying is true, then… we are all destined to die?” Xe could barely stomach the thought of this being so. All that they have done, all that they have created, only to be for naught?
“Perhaps…” Hemesh interrupted xyr train of thought. “There might be another way, however.” This time, both Hemesh and Ochefh looked at him confused.
“What do you mean?” Ochefh questioned. Hemesh looked at fhaem, then back out the window again, seemingly staring at nothing as they spoke.
“There is a tale, long forgotten, that someone had halted the cycle, at least for the time being. It’s said that they took a shadow into themselves and merged with it.” Both Eyes looked at him, and Himallah shook his head.
“That’s impossible, we all know what happens when a person merges with a shadow, and it usually only ends in one thing: their death.”
Hemesh nodded, looking at him approvingly. “That is correct, however it is possible but only on one condition: the person is born part shadow, whether to a shadow mother or father, or to a parent who has an essence of shadow within them. Then, and only then, can a merge be fully successful. Other than that, yes, it will end in the person’s death.”
Ochefh shook fhaer head in disbelief. “But, a union such as that is near impossible! The only way to do it nowadays would be quite… unorthodox.”
The golden Eye shook his head, smirking. “To you, maybe, but fear not. We do not have to worry about experimentation. Before I called you in here, I had already found a person who fits this criteria.”
It felt as though the revelations would never end, and Himallah could feel his head spinning as he took in so much new information. “And where would this person be, Hemesh-Chol’sod?” After xe said that, Hemesh’s face contorted into an expression of slight disdain and disgust.
“They lie in the human lands. I know not who they are, and in fact this is all I know, but it is better than nothing, is it not? Perhaps when the time comes, fate will bring them to us. For now, however, all we can do is lie and wait and see if we can discover more. Only then, can we make our efforts to venture into the darkness.”

Chapter 1
</div>
//A dream… I dream of darkness surrounding me, caressing my face like an old friend. There is no light but the glow of the moon and the stars. I feel at home, no pressure, no fear, only darkness. If only life was so carefree… wait, the sun is approaching like a fiery blaze. It is too bright, too hot, it burns my skin, boiling over, boiling. I feel my flesh peel off my muscles, and my muscles fall off my bones, and my bones burn until they are nothing but ashes floating with the scorching breeze. It is a cruel death, and I awaken anew.//
''//[[SLAM|Slam 2]]//''Your eyes fly open as the door to your bedroom slams open. Standing there in the doorway is Clodiagh, better known as Cloe, your long time friend and annoyer. Her orange hair flowed behind her as if she was underwater and her turquoise eyes looked at me in irritation, flushing her pale freckled skin.
[[You groan and close your eyes again, ignoring her completely.]]
[[You sigh and sit up to face her. "Did you need something?"]]

"Do I need something?! Mallcha’t deó, Marianna, get up, I will not be late because of you!” She stormed out of the room and I’m surprised the floor didn’t splinter from underneath her.
I rubbed my eyes and swung my legs over the edge of my bed, shivering as my feet touched the cold wooden floor. Even though it was summertime, Cloe's mother was able to keep the house nice and cool with her magick.
//"It will never cease to amaze me,"// "you thought, chuckling. Once you shook the sleep out of your body, you made your way over to a vanity near the door and sat down, examining yourself.

</div>
Your hot-headed mess of a friend, she's been around ever since you can remember. When you were younger, her parents took you in and since then you've been as close as peas in a pod, even with her temperamental attitude.
Being half-Fhae, she has the ability to summon magick at will, putting up force fields when an arrow is flying your way or commanding the tides to do her bidding. She's not as powerful as her mother, but she has a surprising amount of control over her magick, in spite of her fiery personality.

You hear footsteps approaching your bedside and then the sheets get yanked out from on top of you. The cool air hit you like a brick and you wrapped your arms around yourself. Cloe sighed loudly and then flicked you on the forehead.
"Get up, sleepyhead, we have to get ready!"
She threw the sheets onto the floor and left your room, leaving you cold and tired. Finally, after a few moments, you begrudgingly got up, your feet touching the cold floor. Thanks to Cloe ripping the sheets off of you, the cold didn't bother you as much, though it did still send a bit of a shock through your system.
Even though it was a hot summer, because of Cloe's mother, the house was kept nice and cool due to her being a powerful Fhae.

She snorted and a small, amused smile appeared on her face, then fell as quickly as it came.
"Get up, we need to get ready. Lots of things to do."
She walked over to you and grabbed you by the face, staring at every little detail before letting go and smirking.
"You look like shit."
She shoves your shoulder and then stood up before leaving the room. Eventually, you find the strength to get out of bed and make your way over to the vanity, where you sit down to examine yourself.
