Resources

Resources are used to pay the costs of β• actions, and the upkeep on ongoing payments for certain actions and for most buildings. Resources are never stockpiled, but instead they represent represent the available materials, food or spending power of a Realm at a given moment.

πŸ“œ

Realm - The total number of Regions controlled by a Player or NPC civilization.

Each turn, every Ruler will update their available Resources. This will be calculated based on what a Realm controls, such as its total Attributes and its Settlements, and these values may be reduced by Upkeep costs or loss of control over Locations or Regions.

Basic Resources:

These resources represent both what a Realm needs to survive as well as to thrive.

πŸͺ™ Wealth - The financial power a Realm has.

πŸͺ΅ Materials - The available building materials in a Realm.

🌾 Food - The amount of sustenance in a Realm.

All of these Resources are calculated based on the total Attributes the Realm controls.

πŸͺ™ Wealth = 2x Commerce + 1x Industry

πŸͺ΅ Materials = 2x Industry + 1x Agriculture

🌾 Food = 2x Agriculture + 1x Commerce

Special Resources:

These resources represent more abstract concepts that represent political power or weakness.

πŸ’  Influence - A measure of the political and cultural power of Realm.

βš”οΈ Might - The strength and combat prowess of a garrison or army.

All Special Resources have unique calculations.

πŸ’  Influence = +2 for every Major Settlement +1 for every Minor Settlement controlled by the Realm.

βš”οΈ Might = Determined by a Settlement size and Building modifiers.

Producing Resources

All Realms will have a total value for both its Basic and Special Resources, based on how those each of those Resources are calculated. This represents how much of each Resource the Realm is capable of producing each turn. At the start of each turn, subtract this production value by the cost of the Realm’s Upkeep for Settlements, Buildings, Mustered Armies or other sources of Upkeep. The new value is the total Resources available for the Realm to spend on that turn.

Resources are never stockpiled. Resources cannot be saved, or be carried over from one turn to the next by any means.

  • Basic Resource Available = (Attribute A x 2) + (Attribute B x 1 ) - (any upkeep costs)
  • Special Resource Available = (unique calculation) - (any upkeep costs)

Spending Resources

Resources are used to pay the cost for taking an action, as well as for the Upkeep of Settlements, Buildings and Armies.

Resources are available to spend on the turn they are produced and on that turn only. You may wish to represent these available Resources with tokens, coins or die counters to easily keep track of them as they are spent.

Taking an action requires that a Resource cost be paid in order for the action to be completed, and the full cost must be paid at once. Payment for the Upkeep costs of a Realm is subtracted from the total Resource production at the start of a turn

If an action requires a payment of a one time cost, reduce the total of the Resource(s) available for the rest of the turn. If an action requires an Upkeep cost to be paid each turn, then lower your total available Resources by that amount every turn.
