How to build in BLOX: controls, paint, skins, saving, accounts, challenges, and what to do when something goes wrong.

Last updated 15 September 2026

Getting started

Open Play now. The ground loads in a few seconds. Guests can build right away. Sign in if you want cloud saves and community posts.

You needThat's it
A browserChrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Turn hardware acceleration on if you can.
A deviceComputer, tablet or phone. A mouse is easiest for tiny details.
MoneyThe game is free. Membership is extra perks, not required.
An accountOptional. Needed for cloud saves and posting builds.
First load can be slow. That is usually the browser warming up the 3D engine. The next visit is faster.

Your first build

Start small. A tower teaches you almost everything: place, stack, paint, look around, save.

  1. Open BLOX and wait for the ground.
  2. Pick a shape from the strip on the left.
  3. Click the ground. The block snaps to the grid.
  4. Click again on top of it. Stack a few more.
  5. Wrong spot? Hold the left mouse button on the block and drag it.
  6. Use the paint tool and click a block to change colour.
  7. Scroll the mouse wheel to zoom out and check the shape.
  8. Open Save, pick a slot, give it a name.

Easy habits

  • Build the big shape first. Details last.
  • Keep snap on so walls stay straight.
  • Press R to rotate a piece instead of deleting it.
  • Pick two or three colours. Extra colours at the end, not the start.
  • Zoom out often. Mistakes hide when you are too close.

Controls

Same list lives in the game under Controls. Click the 3D scene once if keys do nothing — the game needs focus.

Phone and tablet

Tap to place. One finger drag to look around. Pinch to zoom. Two fingers pan. The tools stay on screen; labels turn into icons on a small display.

Blocks and shapes

Every BLOX world is made from a few shapes. Keep the big form simple. Put fancy pieces only where they matter.

  • Full blocks — walls, floors, bulk.
  • Slabs and halves — steps, ledges, flatter roofs.
  • Slopes and ramps — softer edges.
  • Small pieces — fences, chimneys, trim.

Snap keeps faces flush. If a block lands wrong, undo with Ctrl + Z. Do not build around the mistake.

Big builds: silhouette first with plain blocks. Swap in special shapes after the size looks right.

Painting and terrain

Paint changes a block's colour, not its shape. Terrain paint changes the ground — grass, sand, snow, stone.

The paint panel has a ready palette. Members can also pick a custom colour. Leave the panel open while you test a few colours on the same wall.

  • Big surfaces first. Accents last.
  • Bright colours work in small spots: doors, signs, roofs.
  • Ground colour sets the mood. Try two terrains before you lock in.
  • Lighting changes how colour looks. Check with the light you will keep.

Block skins

A skin is the texture on a block: wood, stone, brick, metal, water, sand. Same click to place. Different look. One tower can read as a sandcastle or a lighthouse.

Open the skin picker. Use the recent row at the top to jump back to textures you already used. Skins you own stay in your collection.

Mix less. Two or three materials per build. Too many textures make the shape hard to read from far away.

Saving builds

Save stores your scene so you can come back. Sharing is a separate step.

  1. Clean up stray blocks.
  2. Open Save and pick an empty slot.
  3. Name it something you will recognise. “Desert tower” beats “build 4”.
  4. Wait for the confirmation before you close the tab.

Guests save in that browser only. Sign in to keep builds in the cloud so they open on another device.

Clearing browser data wipes local saves. If you care about a build, sign in and use cloud save.

Accounts, Bits and membership

An account holds your name, progress and cloud saves. Usernames are 3–20 letters and numbers. They must be unique.

Bits

Bits are the in-game currency. Earn them by building, finishing challenges and levelling up. Spend them on block skins. The server tracks the balance so it stays honest between sessions.

Levels

Building, painting and challenges give XP. Levels unlock extras. The level panel shows what is next.

Membership

Optional. Extra in-game perks. It does not give Bits real-world value. You can play the whole game without it.

Password safety

Forgot it? Use reset on the sign-in screen. Nobody from BLOX will ask for your password. If someone else got in, change it and email us.

Daily and weekly challenges

Stuck on what to make? Challenges give you a prompt. There is usually a daily and a weekly one running.

  • Read the prompt twice. Clear theme wins.
  • One subject. One strong object beats a crowded scene.
  • Check the silhouette. Zoom out. It should still look like the theme when small.
  • Finish it. A done simple build beats a huge half-build.

Challenges also pay Bits and XP — a fast way to afford a new skin.

Community builds

The community page is where people post builds. Save first, then post with a short description. You can like and comment on other posts.

Posting needs an account. Posts are public — no personal info in names or descriptions. See the community terms.

If the game is slow

Huge builds cost more. Slow frames are often the browser, not a bug.

  • Close other tabs, especially video.
  • Turn on hardware acceleration in browser settings.
  • Lower brightness and shadows in the game.
  • Keep large areas simple. Detail only what the camera sees.
  • On a laptop, plug in. Battery saver throttles graphics.
