Creating Characters/Classes

Entity Selector

Throughout this article we will refer to Characters and Classes as "entities." The editors for each character type are similar as of the current version.

The Entity Selector is located at the top of the page and is used to select which entity (Class or Character) is being edited at the current time. Click on an existing entity to select it or click the "Add" button to create a new one. Click the red "X" on a given entity to delete it.

  • Select Entity
  • Create new Entity
  • Entity Name
  • Delete Entity

Saving

The creation and deletion of entities will be automatically saved to the module, but no other changes to them will be. To save the changes made to an entity, click the "Save" button at the bottom of the editor. A message will display upon saving the entity successfully.

Creating a New Entity

Creating a new entity will set it as the selected entity. Be sure to save any changes to the current entity before creating a new one, as this WILL erase unsaved changes.

Entity Description

For Characters, the "Name" field is the character's actual name, e.g. "Sarah" or "Steve". For Classes, it is the title, such as "Warrior" or "Mage". For Classes, the character's actual name will be chosen at the character creation stage.

The "Gender" selection will affect the text in scenarios and what equipment the entity can equip. Currently there is no way to make an entity that the player can choose a gender for, but the workaround is to make two identical or similar classes, one for each gender. An example would be "Female Warrior" and "Male Warrior".

"Description" is a blurb of text describing the entity's traits. For Classes this should shy away from hair color, body shape, and other appearance-based attributes and focus on things like personality, responsibilities, abilities, etc.

"Thumbnail" is the file name for an image representing the entity in-game. (Including the file extension, e.g. "warrior.png".) If none is provided, or the image specified cannot be found, a placeholder image will be loaded from the standard assets directory.

Stats

All stats should be non-negative whole numbers.

The left-hand side of the stat entry area contains the entity's "Base Stats" and the right-hand side contains its "Stat Growth". "Base Stats" are the stats that the entity will start out with at level one. "Stat Growth" represents the maximum increase in each stat category when the entity levels up. For example, if "5" is entered as the growth for Physical Attack, then each time that the entity levels up his or her Physical Attack will increase by a random whole number between 0 and 5 inclusive.

Archetypes

Selecting the desired archetype and clicking the "Load" button will auto-fill the stat inputs with prebuilt stats. Currently there are three archetypes: Warrior, Rogue, and Mage. The Warrior archetype has high physical stats and max health but low speed and special stats. The Rogue is more balanced, with an emphasis on speed and skill stats. The Mage archetype has high special stats and low physical stats.

More archetypes may or may not be added in the future, and the existing ones may or may not be balanced.

Skills

Select the button to open the skill editor for the selected entity.

Abilities

This dropdown only appears on the "Character" edit page. Abilities are selected by the player at character creation time for classes. Abilities offer various bonuses and penalties to players. As of the current version, abilities are not definable per module and are defined by the software creator. If you have an idea for new abilities, please contact "babsstabs" (DA/GMail) or "basstabs" (NE) to make suggestions.

Attack Requirements

All body locations selected under the "Attack Requirements" section will need to be unrestrained for the entity to Attack or Defend in combat. Locations with a yellow border are selected while those with a grey border are unselected. In the following screenshot the selected entity will not be able to Attack or Defend if his or her hands or arms are restrained.
